  • So Alexandra how many lice hopped off the returning pinks as they neared their spawning rivers ? or do you not do statistics on that ? And how many of those lice attached themselves to other species in the area ?

  • The amount of chum and pinks killed in Sportfisheries is miniscule. They are the least sought after of the salmon species. Commercially they are valuable. It is the Chinook and Coho that bring the money to BC's economy. I work at a fishing lodge and think that fish limits are too high. They should be cut back in half, not only for salmon but long lived ground fish as well. They really take a hit to overfishing because of the long time it takes them to reach sexual maturity, unlike salmon.

  • PS: hope CAAR and other wild salmon groups post the link to your videos on their front pages - they're the best thing by far I've seen on this topic yet, Angela

  • Beautiful, succinct and so informative! Would only repeat, quickly in each film the effect of one or two lice on a smolt for those that don't go back and watch the first videos (they die). It comes across when Alex says we're losing these chum and pink runs but think we need to be knocked over the head and just an audio insertion under one of the lice-ridden smolts would do the trick. Way to go!!! Angela

  • OK the DFO needs to WAKE UP!!!!! These are Norwegian fish farm companies (Marine Harvest, Cermaq and Greig Seafoods)!!!! They have moved all their Norwegian fish farms away from wild salmon migration routes in Norway. Guess why?? They know the sea lice kill wild salmon smolt. Tell me what farmer doesn't want the best price when they take their product to market. What better way to control that price. Wipe out the competition. Which would you choose a farm raised salmon or a wild one.

  • Finally the DFO is "having a look" and admitting there is "something unusual happening"? But, still not accepting concrete evidence produced by Alexandra showing the cause of losses. I love Orcas and worry about their food. No food, no Orcas. And they cannot be replaced!

  • My question is How many of these Pinks are caught commercially and recreationally ? Maybe what should happen is all recreational and commercial fishing for the pinks and other species in these particular areas should stop also. And we have to take into affect all predators of the salmon smolts as well. I havent really heard any comments about that.

  • That's a good question 'phildaluca'...and the answer is....because it is the commercial and sport fishing groups that pay lots of money (hidden through US foundations) to keep you thinking that salmon farms MIGHT kill wild salmon. I am pretty sure I could prove to you that sport and commercial DO kill wild salmon.

  • Amen, let's see the statistics on that

  • philaluca: Pinks have little commercial value and fetch incredibly low price from processors. Takes literally thousands and thousands to make even expenses. This woman is paid huge bucks to smear aquaculture
