  • JOE!!! Glad to see you back. Great vid as always. Keep it up.

  • @HokieHomeBrew You bet--thank you!

  • @terpsichoreankid Do you mind PM'ing me your pumpkin ale recipe. I am getting ready to brew mine as well but I know it needs a few tweaks...never got it just right. I'd be interested to see how ours compare.

  • @HokieHomeBrew It's actually in the notes in my 'making of' video! That's over at youtubedotcom /watch?v=iTyFiifbb44 Cheers!

  • its about the perfect time to do a winter lager if you wanna think that far ahead id like to so a festive beer video as such

  • @McGPyros Haha--good call!

  • Mash temps & Fermentation temps are critical!! In my chest freezer I use a Johnson Control. I usually go about 4 or 5 degrees lower on the JC setting because of the heat that the wort will create inside the fermenter during the first couple of days of fermentation. Lately I've started taping the JC probe to the side of the fermenter and insulating it with cardboard to keep it even more consistent. Good job SteelJan and good review Joe!

  • @jakecpunut Thanks! Yeah--I am still working on nailing the right temps each and every time, and one of these days will have the controller/fridge combo. That should definitely help things.

  • So glad you liked it Joe. Yep, we always gotta keep talking about those fermentation temperatures! LOL! Wondering why there wasn't much head on that beer, but then again, I bottled it out of the keg, maybe that had something to do with it. I'm jealous of you getting to cook out, we're under strict burn bans here, no outdoor flames. So yeah, I brewed that Pale Ale on the stovetop. Cheers!!

  • @steeljan how do you bottle from a keg? I have an uber cheap... I mean inexpensive set up, the idea of which I stole from Bobbyfrom NJ. It works perfectly. Sounds like you might have to go to an electric system for brewing... no burn and all.

  • @manosaxy I learned how to fill bottles from the keg mostly using this guy's video watch?v=XmDFzCM2U50 It's basically chill the bottle in the freezer, turn off the CO2 and release it from the keg, then fill the bottle and cap it. Done. As for the burn-bans, eh, I've got one of those stoves with a mega-burner on it, it works okay, but takes longer and I'd rather be outside with my propane. :-)

  • @steeljan Most definitely! Yeah--I'm not sure why there wasn't any head on that one--the glass was clean, no soap residue, and there was definitely good carbonation... Maybe from it getting really warm and then cold again? I think if there were burn bans here in IL, I would cry and starve to death--I grill out several times a week!!! LOL

  • Hi Joe gooed to see you're still alive and well and look forward to more videos.

With regards to temp control I'm not sure what uou guys over the pond use but on a brewing forum I'm a member of the STC-1000 seems to be the piece of kit to use.

It won't let me post the link but if you search STC 1000 on ebay and look for a seller called mixtea you get a really good deal.

Mine arrived yesterday so now the temp controlled kegerator/fermentation chamber can go ahead.

    Cheers and beers :-)

  • @grahamlong I've thought about doing that, but would have to have the right fridge too to make it all worth while. One of these days though, it's definitely going to happen!

  • Can't wait for the pumpkin ale videos!! Is Baz showing up for that?! ;)

  • @MaximAvs Hahaha--possibly... LOL

  • Joe, It's been too long :o) Love your vids on brewing, homebrewing, building things for homebrewing. Thank you for this video I'm very stoked! Are you doing a pumpkin ale this fall?

  • @brewertobee I'm definitely planning on it--it was such a good brew, it would be a shame not to have any for October/November.

  • Looking forward to the pumpkin ale video!!!

  • @Saxman1819 Thanks!

  • Got my Pumpkin Ale already done, thanks to you. Except I used the Coopers Real Ale kit. Turned out really well, in my opinion. Cheers Joe!

  • @teet4ever Awesome! I've got to get on it!

  • I still haven't brewed any beers with Cascade yet. I'm not even sure I've tasted a beer with cascade hops in. This is what you get for living in the UK though =).

Looking forward to your brewing vids as always, the Oktoberfest sounds good and I really want to try the Pumpkin Ale myself this year too. I don't know if I have access to the canned stuffed you were using last year though.

  • @LeJimster Thanks! :-)
