I compiled this video for my son and his friends. They were learning about legends and Pecos Bill was one of them. I wanted to show them Paul Bunyun and John Henry but they didn't make the cut.
It's interesting to note that teachers aren't allowed to show Pecos Bill in Elementary school classes. My 8-year old son is also learning about American Tall Tales, but he was allowed to watch the Disney cartoon about Paul Bunyan, while Pecos Bill was deemed objectionable because of the tobacco use, the 'redskins', and Sue's bustle. Even the story they read won't call it a bustle - it's known as a 'springy, coiled hoop'. I hate how the classics are watered down nowadays.
Really? I wonder, do oyu live up north in the U.S.? We're here down south, and I think school officials here are more conservative and picky about that sort of thing.
But thanks for putting this up...at least I was able to show my kiddo the cartoon.
@Jadicegirl And they let kids watch stuff like Hanna Montana... as if that's any better than said references to Native Americans, smoking, or women's posterior attachments..
@LadyBlackdove True enough. The only good parts about Hannah Montana were the jokes the guys made. The rest of it was just Miley Cyrus bellyaching about how much she hated being Hannah Montana, and that didn't end until the series did! XD
Wait, she landed on the moon?
Hey, she probably kept Luna company!

I didn't even think about that. At least two classrooms watched the Pecos Bill video.
