the SEALs are awesome, but they are definitely not known for having tight lips! And most spec. ops soldiers do covert ops, same as SEALs. The point being made was simply they like to talk about themselves being so bad ass, where, conversely, SF are more know for being quiet professionals. Just a different mentality.

@rmanderson702 Happened to serve with some SOF gentlemen in Afghanistan. The mentality of all the different units is the same. Aggressive personalities trained to be controlled action directed towards a specific mission. There are "I'm a badass" talkers in all the units. The guy who talked to me about this looks like Jesus on a diet for goodness sake. You can't blanket any statement to any Unit from any Branch. People are individuals, it's just that these can do more than most.

thats why you join infantry or marines before the seals that way you get to actually see combat....that is when in a time of war plus when i think of special forces unit i want people who have actually seen combat and have killed and been shot at.

@terryispro False. Know of 3 Marines from the Force Recon unit that went to buds in one class. Don't remember hearing if any made it but one did get injured along the way. There is a relatively new Marine equivalent to Special Forces/Seals so this might not happen again.

I actually didn't talk to my recruiter for that. many members of my family went into the Marine Corps. A few of them are former Force Recon. My 2 cousins on my mom's side joined Recon in 02' and were selected for the new MARSOC in 10' in Fallujah they went in with 2nd and 1st Force Recon. I get what I know from them. I personally want to graduate Scout Sniper school and get an 0317MOS then try for Force Recon and hoprfully join MARSOC

Well, the cause of that is probably mogadishu. what the world public was told was basically this.

"The Marines pulled out and left the Job to the Rangers. The Rangers held out for a while but eventually couldn't keep it together when a plan didnt work as expected (ie a chopper being shot down)"

and since then USSOCOM and the DOD have send the Marines in place of the Rangers because of the reprucussions. i know that the rangers were pulling defence work at Takur Ghar (1of2)

and secured LZ's at tora bora but the black-operations (direct action) was done almost entirely by the Marine Recon operators, SEAL operators, and some Delta operators.

to me, the LEAST recognised heroes are the 160'th aviators. if it werent for the NightStalkers the bin laden raid wouldnt have happened, the insertion of Marine Recon teams in the early stages of iraq and afghanistan wouldnt have happened.

The Marine Recon teams also dont get recognised

as much as even all the others i listed. the Marine Recon teams, contrary to popular belief, are the actual "tip of the spear". they are on the ground before delta, SEAL's, and often before bombs are dropping. i give them all credit but the least recognised are the Marine Recon operators, the recently formed MARSOC, and the NightStalkers

@futurejarhead0311 no...pretty sure the greenies were in afghan long before marines even thought about going to war. i do a lot of research on the special operations community. trust me. as for marine force recon they usually aid in delta or other tier 1 elements in securing locations. but the work cooperatively with tier 1 elements. trust me. marines are not always tip of the spear, despite what your recruiter will tell you and all that oorah bs.
