  • 0:55 I've always wondered: HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!?!?! eh what the heck, it's Superman.....

  • this is possibly the best moment in the franchises history or at least the movie.

  • Look at Reeve's body movements in the flying shots. He's hanging from wires but he completely sells the illusion that he's controlling his flight. Note the intensity of his stare in the heat vision scene, again, like he's got precise control of the welding, when it's all make believe.

  • Comment removed

  • Shame the movie sucked.

  • What if Superman hit by his heat vision the ship oil....? OMG..it will create big wreckage instead of saving the ship..

  • Now they'll be drastically changing his costume in what might otherwise be a decent remake, 'Man of Steel.' Leave well enough alone.

  • this part and the fight before it are the only good things about superman 3

  • Only superman can force all that leaked oil in the ocean back in its tanker with just breath.

  • @TheHmongGamer Superman AND Chuck Norris...oh wait....

  • I would always play this moment over and over on my DVD player. It's one of the best moments in all the Superman movies.

  • I love the fact that Christopher Reeve REFUSED to wear padding underneath the suit!!!

  • I always thought 3 and 4 were the weakest of the movies. Three would of been better if they had got rid of the comic elements and Pryor, and concentrate on the split between good Clark Kent and bad Superman. And realize that one could not survive without the other, and be forced too be rejoined by Jor-el. It might of made for a better story too have Clark show his love, and a backbone, for Lois.

  • Superman is my God.

  • Wow, I got to say the heat vision effects looked pretty awesome considering it was the early 80s. :)

  • That is what superman returns really missed, live action wire work for the flying, not CGI crap

  • @Hazardf5 Actually Superman Returns did use wire work for his flying. The background was all CGI, though I get your point.

  • FUCK SUPERMAN RETURNS THIS IS SICKK!!!

  • The only good scene in the entire Superman III film...

  • 1:10 REALLY LOOKS LIKE SUPERMAN!!!

  • god used to watch superman, go figure

  • that old thing? its going orange on the mannequin

  • Probably the best scene in the movie next to something with Richard Pryor in it - the man can make any scene in this funny!!

  • dammit! it sucks that hes not freaking real!

  • @llamas4343 IF he was real, his enemies would be real to balance it out. O.o. I don't want Doomsday to be real. :P

  • @llamas4343 lol nice

  • this was the first superman movie i watched when i was like 6 years old...still love it :-)

  • who knew oil spills were that easy to fix, man we really dropped the ball on the last one should of just asked superman for help lol

  • He just avoided a Fox News Report.

  • BP Oil should hire him

  • Who in their right mind wouldn`t want to be Superman ?, no ulterior motives, no religious bigotry, no ego, just wanting to serve their fellow man with NO thought of reward or celebration or ANYTHING !, who could want to aspire to more ??????

  • Watched an interview with Richard Donner the another day on the special features of the Superman DVD. He said if he wasn't fired by the Salkind's he would of continued making Superman movies. He remarks before the interview finishes that Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman and himself would have made a great series of films.

  • No comprendro porque esta pelicula tiene tan mal criticas, por mi parte, me le gusto mucho

  • Notice how the part on the hair of Clark Kent is on his right side, but when he turns to superman, it's on his left side.

  • Where was Superman when BP fucked up our oceans?

  • Wow superman... didn't even bother to help out with the BP oil spill..

  • Where was superman during BP oil spill?

  • 1:09 is still the most incredible comic book to movie scene ever made. utterly iconic and remarkable. A work of art. Absolute perfection. Superman using heat vision to repair the ship. Reeve OWNED everyone as Superman. Still the greatest!

  • Love the moment when he defeats the bad Superman

  • Junkyard scene was best of the whole movie.

  • lol, what a load of crap.

  • The last time I've seen that much blowing and all that oil was at the local whore house.

  • Christopher Reeve was the best Superman no doubt about it. :)

  • This was the best ever!!!!!!!

  • why is it not possible to embed video? I wanted to add it to a presentation but seems not possible..so I ma just checking if you did it on purpose or if you would be ok to change the status of the video

  • @Chachetta I didnt know you could change the status of the video! i thought you could embed all videos ....ill have a look for you!

  • I always dont get.....superman doesnt wear a mask or a hood or anything....he just changes clothes and no one knows that clark kent is superman....can someone explain to me how this works

  • @ECWHavoc He acts differently, clark sounds, has different hair color, and pretty much would be the last to suspect as the man of steel.

  • @DarPower1 Then why does Bruce Wayne need to wear a mask.......nobody would ever expect a billinaire to be batman......

  • @ECWHavoc well yes they would. Batman has all this dumb equipment that only a billionaire would afford.

  • @ECWHavoc As I have said before, that's precisely the point. Superman wears no mask or gloves, therefore he has nothing to hide. He is also a strange visitor from another planet, Krypton, with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men, and lives in his fortress of solitude, located at who knows where. The idea of Superman living as a regular joe in disguise is unthinkable and ridiculous for the average Metropolis citizen.

  • "Superman 3" is not a bad movie at all. It might have been too silly and lacked a supervillain from the comic books, but I always find it to be more interesting than "Superman 2". "Superman 4: The Quest For Peace" is the only one I think was real bad and should not have been made at all. The third one originally was meant to be the last one for the series as Christopher Reeve himself said he was never going to play the character again after that. "Superman Returns" sure messed the franchise up.

  • I wonder if BP considers themselves like Superman?

  • Scene saved the movie for me! Classic!

  • could have done with superman with that great oil leak this year lol

  • wow i thought this was smallville the clark kent from smallvile way cuter and he is better acting

    (stupidist video ever)

  • lol he should have done this for BP

  • si se iniciara fuego se apagaria con el mismo petroleo al faltar aire luego de ser sellado es casco del barco ^ ^

  • the problem with superman is that there are not a lot of likable villains

  • damn! 1.11 has to be the best visual shot of Superman ever!! awesome. I hope one day we can witness something as good as the Reeve Superman again. Superman Returns was a borefest, it should have been so much better.

  • @mugabesunny Couldn't agree more

  • i cant heat vision the oil in reality because it could cause fire... except if you hand me some SUPERGLUE.. ei Spidey can you hand me sum sticky webs down there???? ow sorry the Oil already spilled --- and I haven't learned my Powers to Fly yet-- Darn--- good thing Smallville gives me hints and Tutorials in Flying and using Superpowers-- next time dudes

  • That's one hell of a blowjob he did with that oil...

  • LISTEN to the London High School Band!!! play John Williams music..Thanks Salkinds and Ken Thorne for SCREWING IT UP!!!

  • Of the 4 movies, it was in part 3 that reeve really look like superman of the comic books, he was in his best shape, plus the flying effects are better than 1,2, and 4, too bad, bad writing runnied this movie and perhaps may i dare say bad directing.

  • @ricrbg1511 this movie became more of a richard pryor comedy with superman in it. However, i still like this a hell of a lot better than 4.

  • Probally some of the best flying effects on film. Classic. Big Thumb's up.

  • if only superman could fix the fuckign oil spill

  • Superman fixing an oil spill in the ocean... somewhat ironic timing to watching this one...

  • Superman, help us clean up that FUCKING MESS THAT BP CAUSED IN THE GULF!!!

  • Comment removed

  • BP need abit of this...

  • This would be one to clean up the oil spill in the gulf.

  • This would be so great if he was real. He could clean up after B.P., P.B.O., and other idiots.

  • i guess we need this on Gulf of Mexico right now xS

  • thats messed up what the salkinds did if donner had got to stay for the remaing sequals they all probably would have been great

  • if only that could happen in real life, if anybody's up on current events

  • @umbrellafox, I have already unbuttoned my shirt here and ready to fly! @Dan, thanks a lot for the upload...however I enjoyed this Superman series thank largely due to the late irreplaceable Clark Kent. May his soul RIP :)

  • Like Superman III Or Superman IV or Not!, Christopher Reeve is one of a kind, And Chris will always be a Superman!, No matter what!

  • if only all oil spills could be cleared up like that...

  • undoubtedly the best transformation any superhero would ever like!!! Christopher Reeve did the best justice to Superman and made the superhero and himself a cult figure, truly a legend forever. May his soul rest in peace!

  • that scene always gives me goosebumps......i love it

  • Helen Slater should have been allowed to change this way

  • The only Superman I know!

  • that was one of the best flying scene effects i've seen in any film

  • Yes, Superman IV lacks serious quality compared to it's predecessors. And I know fine well about Superman III and IV's inferiority to Superman I/II. But let's not forget some of Superman's earlier enemies... Mad scientists with ray guns that will destroy metropolis, Giant mechanical monsters, corrupt jewel thiefs and even a gorilla. Consider that my friend, and the prospect of a giant super computer and nuclear-powered clone of Superman makes MUCH more sense.

    Think of the roots man.

  • hes back :D

  • hes bak :D

  • Too bad Clark couldn't have changed to Superman before the battle was done. Good Superman vs. Bad Superman would have kicked ass.

  • Lolxxxxx.....

  • christopher reeve 4 eva

  • No one can replace this Man of Steel.

  • I wish people would just enjoy Superman movies a little more and stop exploiting errors and/or inconsistencies. There's not one thing wrong with Superman III. Superman IV in particular may be pretty bad when you watch it these days, but back when you were younger, who gave a damn!

  • This is true.

  • I agree with you. The special effects were first class, and still look decent now, like at 1:30. I was in awe when I was a kid.

  • Just fuck yourself. Superman III and IV were horrible. Even as a kid I realized they were inferior to Superman I and II. Asshole.

  • There were oly three good senes in Superman 3: the fire in the chemical plant, The battle between bad Superman and Clark Kent, and Oil spill ceanu.

  • Heat vision + oil = fire? or is that just me?

  • LOL i know right....maybe he was blowing at it at the same time lol (mentally)

  • Yeah he was, didn't you see it?

  • i know

  • @Baudros He is Superman

  • @Baudros There's no oil. Supes is pushing it inside with superbreath.

  • @Baudros I wondered that too. I would of liked too have Clark and Bad Superman split longer. Only too realize that one cannot live without the other. And have Jor-El (Brando) rejoin them. I think the movie would of been better if they had focused less on the comedy and Richard Pryor, and more on Christopher Reeve's performance. And have Donner direct it. And have more scenes between a non-powered Clark Kent and admit his feelings for Lois Lane, Margo Kidder.

  • @Baudros Forgot the freezing breath.

  • @Baudros he's not exactly clever... just really lucky and efficient lol

  • @Baudros it didn't touch the oil he was just soldering it

  • this is one of my favourate scenes from Superman 3

  • I'm sure loading this clip on my Zune Player. I been looking for this and this my my favorite part of the movie.

  • 24 to 29 seconds great flying shots of Reeve my favourite shots of the whole scene.

  • chris reeve was superman u could actually belive he could fly.

with lois and clark i couldnt belive that it just looked like a CGI version.

  • I reckon thi take off scene at the start is one of the best flying scenes in all the Christopher Reeve movies. and where hes flying across the corn fields to save ricky. Two of the best!

  • I loved this movie!

  • Why? Except for the Superman vs Clark Kent fight, the movie sucked.

  • Well, for one, there were some great flying shots. Richard Pryor was pretty funny. I loved the actress who played the bitchy sister. The evil guy looked exactly like my childhood doctor....I mean exactly! And, I enjoyed the story.

  • the metal sheet of the tanker is pretty thin to hold the oil inside

  • lol, not a good idea to be welding when surrounded by crude oil.

  • I wish I was superman!

  • This would have been a great Superman movie if they wouldn't have tried to put so much comedy in it, then again, if Richard Donner would have directed the sequels they would have all been amazing.

  • exactly the comedy ruined it I thought! the best parts was the junk yard fight between clark and bad superman and I also liked the fire scene! but having richard proyer play around all the time was just stupid in a superman movie! 1 & 2 was instant classics

  • Well after Donner left the franchise the movies turned into crap, plain and simple, if Superman two the Donner cut would have finished when the first film was it would have been amazing.

  • the best part of the film was when he turned the coal into a diamond.

  • Yeah that was cool, but George Reeves did that first in the TV Superman of the 50's ina an episode called "Jungle Devil".

Check out my song "If We Ever Need a Super Man" by John Hunter Phillips

    Thank you, john

  • He also turned it into diamond dust as well.

  • You're right !!

  • @DanSullivan129 The funny thing is Donner directed Pryor in The Toy also in 1983. I could see going back in a time machine and getting Donner rehired, then having him cast Pryor in this movie anyway because he wanted to work with him but couldn't do The Toy now. I think the biggest problem with this movie is a really underwhelming climax. The computer isn't scary and the love interest was left out of the grand finale. That fails screenwriting 101 (see Karate Kid III for another example of this).

  • Sorry to burst yours, but it was never finished, if it had been completed back when he started then the movie would be just as good as the first one, you don't have a clue.

  • How does Ross and the others know that the good Superman is back? They can't have any idea, nobody knows. Apart from the shipmates. Ross and the ladies are off ballooning somewhere. So why lure Superman there to kill him when he's apparently, as Ross says earlier in the film, 'out of the nice guy business.' ??

  • Webster probably had a device on him or something that was activited when Superman walked across the beam activiting the telephone and the TV. It might have also sent a signal out to the device which informed Webster and co that he is back!

  • Oh ,how I dearly miss the legendary Chris Reeve! Always and forever a Superman!!

  • I totally agree...each time i hear this song I totally wanna rip my shirt open ....lol lol

  • man - makes me want to rip my own shirt open -- better not i'll have to sew the buttons back on

  • lmao hahaha great comment! :)

  • Thataboy. Me2. I wonder what kind of stitch he uses on his 'S' to get it so flat. Its not a gay question...esp if Superman made his own costume and I know he's not. It just means I think like him =)

  • @umbrellafox On that, I'll bet Clark/Superman spends a fortune on shirts and ties having to rip them off every time someone needs him.

  • @chrismc410 Clark is paid insane amounts of money at the Planet. Not at Batman's or Luthor's paycheck levels, but still more than enough to buy like 25 shirts per week.

  • @umbrellafox well remember to wear a old shirt when you visit the girlfriend cos she will do that for you lmao

  • the music makes me wanna turn up the volume .

  • What amazes me is that he can shoot a heat beam near flammable liquid and not blow anything up

  • The oil the tanker was carrying was most likely Diesel. So it's flammable but no where near that as regular Petrol. Also there was two casing shells on that ship. Once he had closed one part of it up. He wouldn't have to worry so much with regards to the fuel burning on the second casing. Superman's breath probably cooled the fuel down as it was going in, which would have helped.

  • Still makes hair on my neck stand on end!

  • same here...you just dont get that feeling with superman returns

  • Na i dont think they cud have ever matched it as Reeve was unbeatable as superman. Not just that but they missed out on the music and build up when superman changes in the new one. Which is like the best part to some people! In he new one as soon as he opens his shirt the music stops? wtf?

  • exacly, the music certainly does make the movie, just like in superman the movie where louis is about to fall out of the crashed helicopter, the build of the music where he changes makes my hair stand right on end and the part where he catches the helicopter just makes me jump up and down! my mom remembers in the cinemas the whole crowd was clapping

amazing what john williams music can do to a film!

  • Exactly! Makes me so sad on the new film when he qst changes its so poorly done? it starts all good and then as soon as he changes the music stops? And makes this weird kinda stopping noise thats horrible. They really dont know or have any idea how important that part of the movie is to most fans.

  • Here, here.

  • @DanSullivan129 Awesome point and statement. I still cheer when he catches the chopper even though i know he's gonna everytime i watch the movie lol.

  • @Surfer041 I know what you mean! its instant goosebumps aint it ? lol

  • @Surfer041 The first time I ever watched that scene the whole audience in the movie hall stood up and cheered. I have never experienced anything like that at any other movie screening

  • @judgedredd123 That's awesome! I wish I were old enough to go see this movie in the movies. I was like 3 or 4 years old when this came out. This is my fav. scene of all the superman movies..one of my favs :)

  • nice video.. I like how the suit becomes light red again:P
