@5555miles No, far from it. In one of the videos earlier in this talk he says that of course God created the universe materially. He is God. It's just that the story in Gen 1 is not that story. Its thrust is something much more important: the creator God ordered his creation in such a way as to make things work for good, for humans & for his glory, & that the entire creation is his Temple. (The Jerusalem Temple was a micro-cosmos.) And he has placed his image—not an idol but human beings—within.
Thank you bigwhammyrocks for posting this. Although I found the gentleman's analogies a bit... well, condescending and perhaps inappropriate, I know he meant no disrespect. More importantly...
I learned some valuable lessons and enjoyed the meaning. Gave me a whole new outlook on key ideas, and reasons to be thankful.
This is okay, but merely okay. Ministers nowadays are just not as deep as some folks of old. Bonhoeffer blew me away and would blow this guy away. Definitely check it out. I definitely think people are valid in the cosmology but Bonhoeffer is amazing when he talks about God seeing His works.
Just finished reading a bit of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Creation and Fall. Very profound. I'd definitely recommend reading it. He suggests, though, that the world was made for God as well.
So does Walton suggest that God didn't create the universe at all materially?

Do you mean to say He made it for Himself as well?
