@drofnoise555 sorry you feel that way. I encourage individual opinions so that's cool. I hope you consider we replace every inch of wire, every pot, add a "Boss" style 9v adapter, replace the switch, add a mids knob, LED & then the circuit mods you'll see it is an in depth & intensive Mod. Not to mention the vintage transistors we install are pricey & it takes around 4-8 transistors to find "the mojo" for the circuit to make sure we install the best tone. Thanks for listening and keep rockin.
@ChickenFaeces Sure thing, the $145 purchase is the Mod completed on a New NYC Muff & the $60 purch is the mod completed on a Muff a customer would send in. So the $60 purchase is the Mod only where as the $145 purchase pays for both the Mod and a new Muff. Our warranty stands on the Mod for both purchases. If you buy the New Big Muff w/ Mod from us ($145) you get our 2 week PepTone 100% Guarantee. The Russian Muff isn't made anymore so it only has the Mod only purchase. I hope that helps.
One more question: I don't see anything on your website that suggests otherwise, but I felt it was worth asking, you wouldn't mod a Little Big Muff, would you?
@ChickenFaeces good question, its always worth asking. Unfortunately EH used SMD (Surface Mount) technology on that pedal which cannot be modded for this Mod. Otherwise, we would offer a Mod for that pedal. Let me know if you have any other questions.
@ChickenFaeces SMD is used rather than through hole. So with through hole (the method used 100% in boutique/high end) you have the larger parts which are put through holes on the board and soldered. SMD parts are small micro parts that are only attached by the surface of the board. SMD is more of a "mass production" method whereas the through hole is usually more by hand. I can email you pics of the difference, you can get my email from our website. Thanks.
@mexicanmudslide4500 There is no right or wrong when it comes to SMD. At the end of the day tone and pedal selection is not a fact but an opinion. Some feel there is a tone difference but from my perspective the difference with SMD technology is more in the quality of how it is made and you are stuck with it and you can't Mod it. The tone isn't exactly comparable because the SMD Muff uses Op-Amps instead of Fuzz Transistors so its a different to begin with. Hope that helps
I love this !! I have the Russian BM, How is the pick attack sound while palm muting with this mod? I play rock and metal, Its hard to find a fuzz pedal that is palm muting friendly. I love the pick attack on my Russian BM but its a pretty weak effect and gets lost in the mix when im playing with the band. What do you think?
what a ripoff!!!! this mod costs more than the big muff itself!!!!

Can you tell me what the difference in sound is between the $60 NYC muff mod, and the $145 NYC muff mod?

Sorry... would you mind explaining what Surface Mount Technology is? Does it indicate that the pedal is lower in quality?

What are the downsides of SMD technology besides the fact that you can't mod SMD pedals?
