  • Why is Cosell not even mentioning those body shots in rd 14? Leonard hurt Duran with a dozen hard body shots at the end of that rd and Cosell said nothing.

  • I gave round 12 to Leonard easily. Duran didn't land much cleanly, and Leonard outhustled him the whole round, although both were tired. Leonard landed hard body shots at the end. Like the judges, I give Round 13 to Leonard, although, it's so hard to score. Could go to Duran. Round 14 easily for Leonard, who beat Duran down. Duran easily lost 15 too. I scored it 10-5 Leonard, with rounds 7,11, and 13 close. If you give Duran 7 and 13, it's 8-7. I can't see him winning this fight.

  • Through round 11 I have the Score Leonard 100 Duran 109

  • Between 1979-1982 Leonard was at the top of his ability... but, Duran showed him something in this fight... especially about psychological fighting before the fight. Ray showed he could take a punch in this fight.

  • This fight was close, in my view. Duran was dominant early, but, after round 5 I thought the final 10 rounds were even. The difference being that During hurt Leonard in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, while Leonard didn't have Duran in that kind of trouble. As for the first Hearns fight, Ray took a beating but showed great heart. Tommy was winning the fight on points but Ray took it away at the end. The Hagler fight was a waste because Marvin was done, which is why Ray fought him at that time.

  • Cosell is really pushing the Ref conspiracy, Leonard is the one holding. Duran wins the fight handily. Leonard pushes Duran's head down and Cosell screams that Duran is fighting dirty, Howard was way to far up Dundee's ass at this time that he couldn't call the fight in a proper perspective.

  • "Duran wins the fight handily" (quote blite13)

You go from one leonard fight to another trying to put him down. I agree that Duran won this fight but it was a close fight. Duran won the first few rounds, the middle rounds were closer and Leonard came out stronger in the final few rounds.

I think you should study more boxing you seem unable to understand 'inside fighting' both duran and leonard are holding and infighting.

But leonard going toe to toe with Duran is crazy.

  • @SirHappyThe1st No, I just temper people like you who fall for all the hype. I understand infighting fine, Leonard is holding because he can't handle Duran inside. He thought he could out muscle Duran and wear him down, didn't work. Leonard put on a great show vs Hearns1, he got beat handily in this fight, he could have easily lost the decision to Hagler, he beat an over the hill Duran 2x's, he lost to Hearns rematch, got whipped by both Norris and Hector and you rave about his "body of work"?

  • @blite13

I think Leonard and duran are both holding, brawling, inside fighting and frustrating each other but Duran being the harder hitter of the two is gaining the advantage.

Leonard had hearns running from the 5th round to the 11th the only man to do that to hearns. Hearns was winning because of his longer jab but not by much.

    Leonard outskilled hagler ..fact.

Duran 2 was an outclass job

Duran 3 had just beaten barkley so why lose all 12rds to leonard just after huh?

  • @blite13 Leonard did NOT get beat HANDILY in this fight. He LOST, but it was close. And exactly HOW did Duran suddenly get over the hill in 5.5 months..when the rematch happened?? And yes his body of work is very good...He won the junior middleweight title BEFORE he unified the welterweight title. And he won titles in 5 different weight classes...He beat Duran the third time, but Leonard wasn't exactly in his prime EITHER...Norris and Camacho?? He was already done by then...

  • @blite13 Including Norris and Camacho is like including Holmes and Berbick when you talk about Ali....

  • @dreman1970 When Duran fought Leonard in Montreal, he was on his 74th pro fight ...and you say Leonard was washed up after 30 something pro fights? If you don't know the story of SRLvs RD 2...Ray says it himself, he wanted to get Roberto back in the ring as soon as possible. The reason = Roberto wanted to eat and enjoy what he had accomplished..Duran's own people sold him out and Duran wasn't in shape. Ray says it himself...so don't give the "why so different" bullshit.

  • @blite13 Leonard had only 30 something fights but you forgot one thing...How many times did he retire for a year or two and then unretire...I know the story of the second fight...but Duran based on what happened AFTER that fight was NOT washed up...Ask Iran Barkley...Davey Moore...And as far as the 2nd fight..who's fault was that?? Leonard gets BLAMED for Duran not staying in shape??

  • @dreman1970 Did I say Duran was washed up? NO I DIDN'T. He was late into his career, the same reasoning you use to blame Leonard's losses later in his career. Even though Duran was screwed by Don King and his own Handlers in New Orleans, he kept fighting, while as you mention, Ray quit. Duran redeemed himself, but he would lapse and fall into the blowing up in weight after fights. When he trained well and was motivated, he would win.

  • @dreman1970 I blame Ray, he had to use a strategy that placed the other fighter fighting at below his best. What kind of champion wants to fight other fighters who are not at their best? And pays off the other fighters handlers to rush him back into the ring not at his best? It's chickeshit garbage. Ray did it, cause he knew it would be the only way to beat Roberto. If the fight had been another 6 months, Duran would have been ready and we would have seen the 2 at their best, get it?

  • @blite13 Okay well, you better look at your post partner, cuz you said (and I quote) "he beat a 'over the hill' Duran 2x's". Okay you didn't TECHNICALLY say "washed up", but over the hill is darn close synonym...And as far as blaming Ray...I understand what you are saying..but did Ray shove all that crap down Roberto's throat?? And uh, when did I say Ray QUIT?? I said he RETIRED and unretired...

  • @dreman1970 Imagine Ray going into the ring with Duran with almost 80 fights? And Duran was the young guy in his 30th or so fight. With Ray moving up 2 weight classes to fight him....Ray would have been KILLED. Ray is overhyped by the American media machine, that same machine did everything in it's power to belittle Roberto and paint him as a cheater and a Charlie Manson type. And of course, all the American sheep eat it up like candy, glossing over the facts.

  • @blite13 So what are you trying to say?? SRL was a crappy fighter?? Cuz if you are saying THAT then you are completely clueless...

  • @dreman1970 Ray was a very good fighter over a short period, Duran was a great fighter over a very long period. Remember that next time when you tout Ray as being so much better than Duran = simple. Ray did quit in his prime, a great fighter does not do that. Then he cherry picked Hagler when he saw Hagler was completely shot, tried to do it to Tommy but Tommy won the fight. That is not a great fighter = overhyped.

  • @blite13 Uh, first off show me where I EVER said Leonard was BETTER than Duran....I NEVER said that in ANY post...so stop putting words in my mouth....Before YOU talk about what I say please actually READ my posts...Your posts made Leonard look like he basically sucked...Outside of the 2nd Leonard fight, I actually haven't put down Duran AT ALL...Again, re read the posts....
