This film is fantastic, darkly funny.

It's weird seeing Choi Min-sik playing a "dumb" role. Song Kang-ho is the best though. Very versitile actors.

this movie had better cinematography, script and technical skill as well as better black humour than katakuris. katakuris was ott random humour which imho is very easy to do and easy to throw into any script. I'll definitely be recommending this to friends. I'm actually kinda annoyed by the fact that katakuris wasn't calling itself a remake (at least not obviously enough to me when i saw it) esp when you consider how easy it is for japanese films to get publicity in comparison to korean films.

Considering the grim nature of much of Miike's vision, it is interesting that "Happiness of the Katakuris" is much warmer and more optimistic than " The Quiet Family". In the Korean film, the family, particularly the mother, are much less likeable, more cynical.
