  • OMG! Can there be just ONE controversial video on Youtube where there is not a kid who always has to stand up for the whole man kind and become a hero? Am I asking too much?

OMG! YOU DON'T GET IT! It's just a video! You can't expect to stop all the controversy from one paragraph.

Yeah controversy between macs and PCs are annoying. Personally, I have a strong opinion that Windows SUCKS DICK. But thats my opinion. JUST PICK WHAT YOU LIKE AND SHUT THE HELL UP. AND STOP MAKING SPEECHES

  • @MontageReflex LMAO!!

  • What a great guy!

  • I ment to say, be sure to back up on external drive (update the backup) before erasing stuff :)

  • People:

Do not trust to much on Time Machine. If you delete Office on your Mac, you are screwed!!!! Be sure to back it up on your external hard drive and do NOT trust the time machine icon on ur MAC.

The time machine on the Mac will NOT restore it unless you back up on a external hard drive before you erase it!!!!

  • LMFAO sorry mac fanboys but i could do this type of thing on a real computer called a pc back in 1996 its called smart restore you fucking idiots, apple fucking fails.

  • @pccrybabyhater1 calm yourself, sir.

  • You can back up everything on a normal computer using an external hard drive.

  • @magikonrad

And with several string batch script it can be automated and fully customized, but applophiles prefer spending 300$ for that "cute looking" (time machine they say? lol) and press 2-3 buttons, rather doing some THINKING.

  • I owned 1 mac, it was a MBP. As much as I liked Mac OS, the construction of the MBP was so flimsy it didn't stand up to basic wear/tear and eventually the graphics card (which is part of the motherboard on this model) crapped out. $2200 for a computer and 2 years later its a total brick. I never will buy another Mac.

  • @joshster89 I'm new to mac and I must the quality of build on the one I have is top notch. Its the MBA not MBP though.

  • @joshster89 aww. that's too bad.

  • Thats an amazing feature. It's funny how windows have had this function since windows ME..

  • @theblueguy2 It is not the same.

  • That feature is wonderful, I wish that they had it for Windows so I could do that.

  • "You never lose your most important porn... I Mean files"

  • wow hahaha Time Warp that's the coolest thing I've ever seen... that's awesome hahaha

  • The guy is hot.

  • @JamSlam007 wtf

  • @JamSlam007 You a homo ?

  • @PhilK1080 Why?

  • @JamSlam007 I'll take that as a yes, then.

  • @PhilK22 Why would a stranger care so much? lol it's none of your business.

  • Great vid!

  • what capacity for a hard disk would you recommend for using timemachine?

  • What type of external drive is that?

  • hehë_í_féèl_sÓ_lÒÑélý_tødãý

  • I just bought a macbook, i on the time machine, it says set up the time capsule, and the airport utility jump out and search for wifi, my wifi is on but it keep can't search airport wireless devices, someone plz help me, thx =D

  • i have a macbook but i bought a macbook pro yesterday and i wanna transfer my information from my old mac to my new. when i plug in the time machine backup thing, nothing comes up! it doesn't give me the option to do anything with it. a folder called 'Time Machine Backup' just appears on my desktop. it has info in it, does this mean all my data has transfered without me knowing or what? PLEASE REPLY!

  • does the time thing start when the first time you connect your external hd? or does it automatically goes to older things?

  • does the time thing start when the first time you connect your external hd? or does it automatically goes to older things

  • one question !!!! if time machine is 1TB storage right ? if i accidentally deleted a 1TB file size ? will it fill up the whole storage capacity ?

  • can you hook it up wirelessly?

  • I am wanting to buy a external drive for my Mac. Can you recommend me any that are good but not to expensive. Thanks.

  • Just too good for windows, i hate windows since using it for 12 years at least. I didnt know how much more superior macs are.

  • Do you think having a time capsule and an a separate external hard drive for files you don't want to have on ur mac is a good setup? Which external hard drive do you recommend?

  • how do you restore everything at once??

  • what if i didnt have it on to begin with and i accidentally deleted the orgional Alias file so the other file wont open, can i restore my mac so that i go before i did that so i still have those folders, because without them i have nothing on my mac

  • I think I fancy John...

  • while it is more expensive, the time savings it self is worth it. I use to be PC since 1987 ........ Love mac

  • Steve Jobs introduced this feature by saying "almost none of us automatically backs up." Yeah, but that's not a bad thing.

You have to realize that there are downsides with automatic backups, a primary concern being a malicious code or change being injected and once it reaches the backup drive the entire database is potentially corrupted. In my opinion it's better to do manual, known-safe increment backups.

  • @STVYT Time Machine doesn't use a database: it actually copies all independent files, and stores them as an actual copy, so if one is wrong it doesn't corrupt the entire thing.

Actually, you can just browse the time machine backup with Finder, and brouse. Its literally a "copy" of your computer on another hard-drive, same locations, same files... Its like automatic copy-paste.

  • microsoft needs to add time machine to windows.

  • Time Machine is a good tool to use. I used it to back up my stuff when I upgraded to Snow Leopard.

  • I accidentally deleted a pages file last year so can I use time machine to find it?

  • CAN I WOW TO MYSELF OVER HERE

  • @gozzy1990 you can

  • OMG! can there be just ONE Mac video on YouTube where stupid Mac and PC fanboys don't fight in the comment area? Am I asking for too much?

OMG! YOU GUYS DON'T GET IT! It's just a personal preference! You can't say apples are better than oranges, both are different! Macs have their nice things, yeah. But PCs have their other cool things. Personally, I prefer my Macbook. But it's just me. It doesn't matter! JUST PICK WHAT YOU LIKE AND SHUT UP! NO FIGHTING PLEASE! get a life already!

  • @basheersubei SSSSHHHH!! Ignore them, these are the people who actually make the effort to push the companies to fix their shit up and make sure it is good!! If there is something bad about macs, you can be sure pc fans will pick them up on it, and vice versa. The more people yak about the negatives, it pushes change.

  • I wish next version of Windows should be like this when I use System Restore.

  • I am guessing you can use any External Hard Drive? When I look at hard drives on Newegg I see both Mac Hard Drives and External Hard Drives. Do Mac Hard Drives just come with a crappy boot up software or something?

  • @FrosChannel I just found out the answer to ur question. I had a WD external hard disk (FAT) format. I wanted to use Time Machine on it, but I had to format it and use a file format for Mac OSX.

After that, I got Time Machine on it and now I use the WD hard disk just like any other HD (I store my other non-backup files on it).

However, I'm guessing that Windows cannot recognize the Mac OSX file format and therefore cannot read from my WD Hard Disk now.

I recommend you try Time Machine, it rocks!

  • if I'm planning to buy a new macbook pro, can I use my external hard drive that got "time machined" from my actual macbook pro on the new one and throw all the information there?

  • I say this as a Mac user and fan, PC is much easier for this.

  • what kinda of mouse dose he have in this video i want to get one

  • now this is heavenly stuff !

  • ROFL UR A FAGGOT!

  • Tiem Masheen...!

Really, its sooooo useful. Thanks Apple.

  • I have seen countless of videos on Time Machine and this is by far the best one! Great job and big help to new Mac user. Thanks!

  • Nice video. You sound just like the standard tutorial voice for pretty much anything.

  • Time Machine has saved my life soooo many time. It really gives me a world of confidence about my aging computer.

  • can any one tell me, will this back up the full install of programs like FCP or photoshop? or does Time Machine only backup files and settings? I need to re-install snow leopard and I would rather not have to re-install everything individually.

  • @tripmedia it should because you'll be given the option to use time machine to restore them.

  • @tripmedia if you're going to an Apple store also ask the geniuses there incase i'm wrong.

  • @Athos523 cheers!

  • #MS sucks, learn from #Apple !

  • Can I move the external hard drive between my mac and my PC?

  • This video is a lie. Time machine cannot locate files in the past. It's just a lot of fancy graphics for $300 and an icon on your computer. This is all a lot of BS. I spent hours trying to locate a file in the past. It doesn't work. I'm not defending microsoft. They failed 5 years ago. Apple is good with the exception of time machine. Please either fix it or take it off the market. Don't be like microsoft and make things that don't work, just to make money. You guys have potential.

  • @larrymm2007 Maybe you should learn how to use it. This has saved me so many times. I delete a 'useless' document for school then find out I need it 4 months later. I open the folder that has my documents for Creative Writing, open the Time Machine, and go back 4 months. There it is.

  • káárrekt :-)

  • doesnt work:(

  • when you use it for the first time can u go back in time

  • @ATMxClanx Maybe if you wait for a few hours or days, yes

  • I'm not a windows user,

but is there a similar program for it?

  • @chaparlipie Genie Timeline, maybe?

  • APPLE RULES !!!

  • T M rules !

  • do these black tops come with every mac? from the steve jobs clothes line the new i-top lol

  • it's taking me 4 hours for 58 GB to back up...normal?

  • ya it can be

  • I think so

  • @Kubes15 Idk, maybe

  • Does MAC OS have also system restore? In case important system files / config will corrupt and it won't start. This is for user data only...

  • Wrong actually, It backups EVERYTHING. Apps, settings, system files everything

  • @cefaloid Time Machine backup all data on your HDD, also your system folder.

IF your system wont start you can use the reinstall dvd, and then the time machine backup.

Btw, corrupt system files is not a common problem at mac os.

  • I'm even more convinced now about getting that iMac.

  • What about viruses:

If ONE virus gets in your Mac you're fucked?

You can't do a shit, except reinstallation.

What's the typical user knowledge of how it works Do they know how to deal with console, /etc folder, core system files etc?

Everything "not for fool users" is hidden here but this OS is really complicated.

  • lol?

    What are u talking about?

In first place, just like another unix-like OS, you never work as root in Mac OS, to do changes in the system you have to put your password.

If a malware for mac is reported, apple reports a solution for this problem very quickly...

And guess what, how many mac's has viruses problems right now?

    If u said 0% u're right.

  • @extremesony never say 0%.

Just nobody wants to attack MAC OS. And it will be exotic OS as long as Apple won't allow to install it on standart PC. So it will be always exotic - Apple wants BIG profits from their hardware. For me: Jobs wants a lot of money and Balmer wants much less.. u know which OS is better for me :) Yes, MAC OS is better but too expensive for similar thing.

  • @cefaloid ok, lets say 0,01% let's say you have a malware:

    >To make system changes you have to put your password, every time

    >If you get a malware you can just delete it.

    >If someone discover a failure in mac os, apple try to resolve it very fast

    >A malware can't change system settings, so, you can back on time with time machine

    >For every secure issue, apple writes a solutions in their web page.

Redmond wants less money, they just have to copy another :) (not only apple)

  • @extremesony: "Redmond wants less money, they just have to copy another :) (not only apple)"

    Apple took:

    - mouse and GUI idea from Xerox

    - system core from freeBSD/netBSD

    - Alt+Tab from Windows

    - PDF (Quartz core) from Adobe

    - Bar in Windows was invented earlier than Dock in Mac. Functionality is very similar. So copied??

    - Hardware from PC family

    And many many other.

But, what is wrong in doing that? Both Apple and Microsoft are trying to copy what is good.

  • I didn't say apple does not copy... :) the difference is:

Apple quote all 3 parts technologies in their web site, and if possible, they try to make it better.

It's nothing wrong to use another technologies, but microsoft sell their old parched system as the "wow" of the year, and with each OS they try to convince people that it is a very new OS (like wats happens to windows 7) .

PS: since system 7 mac os had a "dock" bar :)

  • @extremesony I don't think windows 7 is parched. Yes, i know it has (imo very good) kernel from crappy Vista. But system is much more than core!

The same way Mac OS must be parched because NT kernel is much more modern than UNIX-like one? No, no, we cannot say that!

  • There is a little difference

People who develops unix \ bsd kernel don't use crappy parches for their systems, unlike MS with NT and MSSQL.

A system is more dan core, yes, but if you don't have a good core, you system can be beautiful as you want, but it will be insecure, unstable... i'm not a Microsoft hater, they can make good stuff, but, their OS and other systems must to be rewrite from the first line.

Btw, like u said, we can choose what is better for us..

  • @extremesony concept of NT kernel is really good. Takes a lot from unix.

I know that previous OSes from MS were shity (except XP and especially 2003 server - i have 2 domain controller clusters with uptime 700 days - since i've installed it). But 7/2008 server R2 are best they wrote. Strongly disagree they're insecure or unstable. They're already rewritten from the first line. Never seen BSOD on 7 and I have a lot of them!

Hope some day both OS will be like Intel and AMD.

  • @cefaloid

Look at safety reports, windows still far from a unix system.

their oud crappy technologie is a nightmare for a lot of people.

I work every day with windows servers... and does not matter, windows still far way to be a good system.

dll's, register, corrupt files, system becomes lag after a few months use, bad file system..... well a lot of things.

  • @extremesony:

Windows uses registry, X uses a bit of /etc, of property lists, hidden files. It's mess! Dll is wrong, so what is dylib file?

Bad and sensitive file system ? U re still using FAT? System becomes lag? Please stop compare X to Win95.

Safety reports? Divide it by number of computers to see see RISK PER COMPUTER.

If X is so good why it has less than 5% of market? Why didn't you replace your windows servers? Do it, remowe this crap! Can't you? Why?

  • @extremesony you know WHY hackers don't attack Mac's? Because Mac's aren't worth their time. They aren't used in places of any value. And numbers. There are hundreds of thousands of more PC's in the world running Windows than Macs. In fact, in the US alone, there are over 550+ MILLION PC's in use, compared to a paltry 30 million Mac's. Now, tell me....if you're a hacker, what do you wanna hack? iTunes info or corporate info?

  • @cefaloid I repeat, i came here to see a video about the time machine, if you don't like mac os, search for a video to see how fine flip 3d is :) because the argument about the % of windows and unix is something every baby can say.

btw, unix stills control about 80% of important datacenters in the world.

so i'm going to make some nice things on my mac...

  • @cefaloid ok ok, are you upset? omg, you come to a mac video, say some shit about viruses! and you won't to hear the reality about mac, unix, bsd os? lol?

About the business, macs are at almost al media studio... and almost all credit card payment process (for visa and mastercard) are done with mac servers.

Mac OS Server is only 10 years old, and it is used in many datacenters

  • @extremesony "and almost all credit card payment process (for visa and mastercard) are done with mac servers"

It clarifying me news i've just found:

"Visa and Master Card acknowledged on Monday that both of their security systems were recently hacked, with the hacker gaining unauthorized access to the confidential information of approximately 2.2 million Visa and MasterCard customers. "

  • @cefaloid About computer for normal people,

Tell me, how many manufactures sells computers with windows? how many models? how many shops?

Second, can you find a mac for less than 700 dollar?

Many people are afraid to change, also, there are more games for windows then for mac.

    >cnet: NTSF the worstest file system on the market

    >pc world dutch version: boot time windows 7 increase about 10 seconds after 2 months with a normal consumer use

  • @extremesony:

Could you please send me link to your revelations? What i found on CNET is "NTFS is very stable, much more than the predecessor FAT32"

How many manufactures sells computer with windows? I think almost all of them. Try to buy new notebook without any system. Try ;)

Yes, there is no mac for less than 700 dollars, they're ridiculously overpriced.

  • @cefaloid pc world (usa) about vista : register, the nightmare for windows consumers

cnet about vista : dll hell is back

PS: i don't have windows servers, i work with windows servers, and thanks MS, with out your big failures i would't have so much work.

  • Ugh, what? I can install whatever I want... nothing has to be approved. Lovely thing called the internet, idiot.

  • Apple's less-common operating system means that a much smaller range of third-party software is available.

  • Yes, but thats not what your point was, you were saying Apple has to approve all OS X software...

  • anyone knows, what external hard drive this is?

  • I just brought a 1TB drive for my mac Because I updating to Snow Leopard. I brought on amazon for 94 dollars

  • Great Scott!

  • @commodore256 Precisely!

  • brilliant. I wish they have this on windows

  • Linux has time machine like Mac it's called "Back In Time" ...

It will even back up to an external hard drive just like Mac.

As you know Linux is free, and Linux will run programs made with Adobe Air mean there fun free apps for Linux to download that are free.

  • screw all Microsoft users who abuse Mac coz they simply can't afford it

  • @iHaleem lol. I love macs and I don't say anything bad about them. I just make my pc look like a mac. lol. I think I say lol too much, lol.

  • @iHaleem Shut up dirty faggot, in real life I would smash your head to the ground and make sweet love to your filthy faggot mouth.

  • @Bi0mesis02 Internet tough guy?

  • @Bi0mesis02 Your clearly a tough guy! congrats!

  • @iHaleem exactly

  • is there any point of time when time machine may start to erase history to save completely filling your hard drive with cache data?

  • beleev me time machine is veryvery useful

but only if you have a big exernal hardrive

  • True.. I don't want this time machine to fill my external hd with all of those files...

  • ive got this now but im using an iomega custom 1TB drive,

i have partioned it to supply time machine with 500gb of space and left myself another 500gb to play around with. once time machine starts to fill 500gb it will tell you it is about to do so however this will not happen for a good few years for me even though i work with HD video files.

  • Its very sad that Apple some how was able to convince people this was revolutionary.

I've been using Shadowcopy on my PC for a bit, i'm glad Microsoft made it more obvious on Windows 7. Not fancy graphics...just go to folder's properties, and "past versions"...all there.

  • It is revolutionary, Time Machine and iLife is included in Mac OS X Leopard. Setting it up couldn't be any easier, just plug in a external hard drive or activate a Apple Time Capsule and Time Machine will do the rest automatically.

  • Yes, Time Machine will detect any external hard drive (even a iPod in disk mode!) but the initial back up requires quite a bit of space. I suggest you purchase at least a 150GB hard drive or else you'll run out of space in less than a year

  • that's pretty neat, can't wait to get mine in september. mac mini woo (poor man's mac i know but i'm a college student, and a music tech student too, so i have a lot to buy other than just a mac

  • I have been able to use Mac Mini with Cubase, Reasons and Garage band. I upgraded to four gigs and was able to record 40 simultaneous audio tracks with up to 17 cpu hungry pluggins at the same time. It finally crashed at 18 plugins but that's ok because its more than Ill ever need.

  • Great feature! Very useful and has saved me many times.

  • Yeah, there's nothing cooler than ideology. Thumbs up.

  • ok one Q

i wana upgrade my macbook hared disk from 250GB to 500GB so am gona back up all my files from the last hared disk an when i install the new one and also installed the MAC OS X from the CD that it come with the mac can i roster all my files with the time machine same it was? i mean all of the whole files

  • Awesome technology!

  • why when i put my usb it says update failed because its to large

    Whats to large???pz help

  • The stuff you want to back up is larger then your hard drive. You can click inside the Time Machine preference in System Preferences to chose what folders to back up.

You can unselect folders like system file and applications if they are too large(thats what I do!)

Do this by clicking options button in Time Machine Preferences

  • hes buff

  • faggot!

  • Time machine kicks ass!

  • @ciaocivediamodomani

I was backing up with Time Machine and my Mac shut down, so I only got a tenth of the files backed up. I can't believe Apple doesn't let Snow Leopard shut down with Safari running (very annoying) BUTt it will shut down with TM running! How stupid!

The new PathFinder 5.6.8 is amazing! and it's what's the SLeopard Finder should have been by now!! Oh well, maybe someday..
