@JesusOrMuhammad I`m inclined to say blues but as Bruce Lee once said `my highest technique is to have no technique`,which is what Joe Satriani has.His own technique ^.^
Coming from someone who generally shuns 'shred' guitar, Joe Satriani is awesome; truly one of the best ever. He also has a good voice. Up there with Hendrix, Gilmour, Vaughan, Allman etc (and my personal favourite, Buckethead.)
@nucleusinc Ed pretty much taught himself. At first he played drums, then he switched to guitar, which his drummer brother Alex had been playing. While Al went out on dates and stuff, Ed practiced in his room for hours on end. Then in 1974, Van Halen was formed with Ed on guitar and vocals until DLR joined. Then in '78 Ed was a legend with a popular band, album and world tour.
Laying by the pool at the cliff top villa looking over the sea, bear in hand, soaking up the sun, this was my sound track to that holiday, great album. Even my mates dad loved this album.
Nobody's guitar tone today is as good as the tones you heard 20+ years ago. I wonder why that is? Even the gods like Satch, Van Halen, etc., don't seem to be able to get the killer sounds they had back in the day. There's some great new gear out there, but the old stuff just sounds better. Analog, tubes, the electronics they used---perhaps a combination of all those things.
@governorgilf I don't think they CAN'T...it's just they DON'T WANT TO. Things have changed since then, and they want to change as wall. I also prefer this sound and analog stuff, but I understand very well them when they don't like to repeat themselves.
@arancedisicilia75 That's a good point, and I totally get that. It just seems guitar tones would be BETTER today, given all the advances in technology. But, I understand that these guys are constantly pushing the envelope in search of a new sound.
Everything about this song is extremely impressive and just dam amazing. I like the little bas riff thrown in to...makes it more raw and badass!! Joe Satriani rules!!!
I just got a new NitRider light for my MTB--this should get me in the mood for some night riding--even thiugh it is about 0 F or lower most nights now--LOL.

=) Joe has as much voice as Chris Rea (none), but then, Rea's music is good too. Anyway, this is a good little song! Must be a great driving song.

@nucleusinc So what. I wasn't trashing Satriani. There's musicians who don't have a voice, nevertheless their songs rock.
