The economic growth stalled, they tried to kick start it with trillions of dollars, it failed. We are wlel past peak oil and its getting more expensive and harder to find. China has growth because of coal but they will run out of it.
Oil is too hard to get a hold of, its not about it running out, its about the fact it's too expensive to get. The world pop was less than a billion before oil and in under 200 years we increased to 7 BILLION.

Its soooo easy to fix immigration - simply use a points based system like france, canada and australia rather than letting absolutely anyone in.
Make sure to only take in people who will be a benefit, and will respect british culture rather than simply letting in any and every yokel that wants to come here from whichever other country, as Labor allowed. Limit the minimum working time before British citizenship can be applied for to at least 5 years.
