Great testimony! There's always a choice out there. But as Sir Thomas More put it: I die the king's servant but God's first. Polycrap is going to be among the first I'll met and hug in heaven next to the Wurmbrands of course.
There isn't much. Mostly we just have the words of Polycarp and the support of his words by others in the early church. He was friends with Ignatius (they wrote letters back and forth). The church network was pretty close knit, and there are not any accounts of anyone questioning his claimed discipleship under the John. Many scholars conclude this it's not irrefutable, but there isn't really any evidence that suggests otherwise.
I don't pray to any saints, only to God and Jesus his son. But this is a great testimony of loyalty!
"Eighty six years have I served him and he has done me no wrong. How then can I blaspheme my King who saved me?"
Hallelujah, may God bless all our brethren through history and the future that are loyal to their king and lord even until the point of death. The time is coming according to the book of revelation - when we once more are to be killed because of our faith. Stay strong brethren, Amen!
Reading all of Polycarp's letters we see that he was not a believer in a trinity, but that he believed the Father was God Almighty even above Jesus.

@LeMightyJer You find the same kind of phrase also in the Bible (e.g. 2 Samuel 10:12) - it basically means
"be courageous!"

Is there any independent evidence that shows Polycarp studied under the followers of Christ other than from Polycarp's own words or his admirers?

Polycarp's epistle to the Philippians is incredible. Not Scripture, but incredible reading nonetheless.
