there is only one thing worse than this movie... my grammar. I'm not Sorry, about that, English is not my mother tongue. But I hope I I get my point across. And unlike Orci, Kurtzman and Abrams I can admit my mistake. :)
9. When Vulcan is attacked by ship with huge space drill, dangling on some cable, don't bother to shoot the cable, just send guys with swords to disable drill. 10. When someone attacks Romulan with a sword, he will not use a gun, instade he will sword fight him. 11. When you travel to the past, don't bother to save your loved once, just take revenge on people who was trying to help you. 12. From cadet to captain...
5. On this same planet there are two guys, both essential to the plot. Both in walking distance from each other. 6. When you need it you can pull new method of transportation right from your a@# in no time. 7. When your world is doomed, and you have fully functional starship, don't bother with taking your pregnat wife aboard. Then you can blame guy who wanted tosave her because he was too late. 8. Remember that supernova's can destroy the galaxy... More will come :)
My favorite plote holes in this movie: 1.When your planet is under attack by alien warship, don't bother to mention it when you call Starfleet. Just told them that you experience some earthquakes and you need assistance. 2.When you fight with foe with superior technology send guy with a sword to fight them. 3.When your planet is swallowed by black hole, hide in the cave, it it surely helps. 4.When someone is guilty of mutiny don't lock him in the brig just lunch him into some planet
lol, no matter what Star Trek video I go to, Trekfreek is there having at least a two page argument with someone because, apparently not liking this movie makes you better than everyone.
@CptChaos47 No. He just loves ripping this bad movie pieces. If you want him to stop just prove to him that Star Trek (XI) is a well written solid story, with good characters, believable events & believable science. Good luck, because everyone who has tried to prove him wrong ended up feeling like an idiot because they could not dispute his facts. Every one of them stooped to personal insults because they lost the argument. I believe you had a run in with him before & lost as well.
@BondFreek I never said I wanted him to stop, I just find it funny he is wasting his time trying to convince people it's a bad movie, when either way, it's just ones opinion, not fact. Trying to tell people otherwise is pointless, you either like it or you don't.
@CptChaos47 First off Yes we had a "run in a back in 2010. Second, entertainment is described differently then you think. What makes a show good or bad is the same thing that makes a poem is good or bad. It's not just taste; it is how it holds up to the standards set by experts, which are over 1,000 of years old. Example of your definition of good or bad would mean that movies like Plan 9 from outer Space did not disserve the Raspberry Award or movies like Gandhi dose...
@CptChaos47... disserve the Raspberry award. Good or bad is not a matter of taste. It is a matter of established formulas of writing, directing, acting, & effects. When I watch a Godzilla movie I enjoy it in the same way you enjoy this new Crap Trek, but I’m not going to say that they are good movies. WHY? Because they do not conform to what qualifies as good movies.
Well, since 'no-body' has managed to explain what has made this movie a GOOD movie. I will.. First of all the acting isn't wooden, secondly the CGI has had a vast improvement since the last of the star trek films, therefore revoloutionising the general stereotype of Star Trek, and thirdly, the director J.J Abramsemploys simple techniques to make rich/in-depth films ... The point is, fair enough you don't like it. But quite a few people do, so suck it up. ;)
@StIrLiNSiLvEr 1st for the 1,000,000 time I know people like it & that's fine, but stop trying to shut me up for pointing out why this movie sucks. Second what makes a good movie is not limited to just acting and if you like shaky cameras done to death ever since Jar Jar stole it from Firefly. It is also the story. The Story and the script make or break a film. A film must do more than just entertain it also is to convince you that you are in the film, ST:XI failed to do that...
@StIrLiNSiLvEr The very first scene had so many lens flares I thought that I was having my eyes examined. There was the over the top performance of the villain and his killing the captain for no reason. A human baby born with in 5 minutes of the woman's water breaking; never happens. The longer I watched the more I had to entertain myself because this movie was anything but entertaining. There was nothing for the audience to relate too...It was just one FX after another crap fest.
@StIrLiNSiLvEr I never felt connected with any of the characters. I hated Kirk from the very second he drove that bike off the cliff and my hate for him grew as he did one selfish act after another. I was cheering for the ice monster to eat him! I wanted to bitch slap Spock and tell him to grow some balls! I wanted to put pike in rehab because he acted more like a hippie then a Captain! I had to do a Mystery Science Theater 3,000 to it just to make it through the movie...
@StIrLiNSiLvEr The villain was a complete moron who wants revenge on someone who was trying to help & he also forgets that he can change the future. The hero goes from cadet to captain of the flagship over experienced officers because he is a lucky ass hole. Old Spock does not give a shit about ruining future lives. Young Spock is omnipotent when it comes to machines. This movie is so bad it's the only movie that took me three days to watch it all the way through the first time.
@StIrLiNSiLvEr You have no videos of your own and you go around insulting strangers for ripping on your entertainment. Can you say hypocrite. PS. I have made my own films in film school and here on YouTube. PS. The movie took me three days because it was so bloody BAD that if I did not stop and take a brake I would have gone mad and killed people. Come to think of it maybe that is why you go around insulting people for having a different opinion, you’re insane!
Star Wars is cool. Star Trek is cool. The Abrams movie is cool, and you trekkies should stop complaining about minor asthetic discrepencies and be glad you got a good movie. Everyone shut up.
@notablegoat Mabe it is you who should shut up. You & others like you who constantly trying to censor people with independent logical thought. I have asked this from many others who love the new Trek & I'm asking you...What made it a good movie? Please stick to only the movie & describe in detail what & how (if at all) it holds up to what film school would consider a good film and good story telling. (No one has succeeded in answering the question with even one good point. Good Luck
@Trekfreek I have a feeling you went out of your way to ask for specifics of what in this film would have artistic merit, being fully aware that most people would have no idea what to say. Based on that, it stands to reason that you have encountered many people who beleive this movie to be good based soley on the fact that it is enjoyable, and hate that it's possible you could be wrong about your precious franchise. And my opinion is a valid as everyone elses, so its you who's trying to censor.
@notablegoat In non-political English. Uh... I don't know what makes it good...uh... It's just goooooood. Oh please! That's the same crap that got people flocking to Titanic. As for censoring I never said that you're not entitled to your opinion only that you either prove me wrong or stop trying to shut me up! You can't prove me wrong because you know I'm right. STXI SUCKS! You can go ahead and like it till your dying day but it will not change the fact that you like a sucky movie.
@whatthafuckisthis Really? At what point did he dump shit on the franchise? Was it with the well thought out storyline? Or the modern technology portraying the Enterprise? Or perhaps it was when he chose not to include hokey fighting scenes that looked like overweight guys in a costume. I know I'm not a "true" trekkie if i don't hate this film.
@Newenlightenmentnow "well thought out storyline"? Let's examine that notion... Why did Nero kill the Calvin's Captain? Why did Young Kirk drive the car off the cliff? Why did Spock fraternizing with a student but did not tolerate others breaking the rules? Why did Nero leave old Spock in walking distance of a star base if he wanted him to die from exposure? If you can't answer these questions logically then it was not a "well thought out storyline"
@Trekfreek Well from my understanding Nero didn't care if old spock lived or died. The revenge was him having to live with being an endangered species, and having everything he knew and valued destroyed. Young Kirk is not the same Kirk as TOS, as his dad died. How do we know that George Kirk wasn't there to whip Jim into shape? Spock didn't fraternize with Uhura until the end. Since Spock lost 1 world, he embraced his human side more than TOS Spock. Events have consequences.
@Newenlightenmentnow If Nero wanted Spock to live and suffer why did he beam him down to a hostel planet in the first place? Your argument for young Kirk is lame! He had his mother and uncle. Riker lost his mother when he was a baby he still grew up with a tender hart. Your argument is flawed. Did you not notice how Uhura used her pussy whip powers to get on to the Enterprise? And if they did start dating on the enterprise when did that happen? (BLACK HOLE PLOT HOLE!) ...
@Trekfreek I don't know. If I were as good as Uhura was in the evaluations, I would be pissed at Spock for not giving me the best ship. That's what I got out of it. She was saying, he listen jerk, you screwed me, even though I'm your best student.
@Newenlightenmentnow Also, how did Spock get the authority to re assign people without consulting with the Admirals? Spock did not “embrace his human side” until the end of the movie when he talked to his old self. You really should pay more attention to the story instead of making up excuses for all the plot holes.
@Newenlightenmentnow "Was it with the well thought out storyline"??? don't make my laugh. This movie was full of plot holes and clichés. Kirk is stereotypical rebel without a cause, cruising on motorbike He is also another boring incarnation of hero with a thousand faces, he is Luke and cap. Pike is his Obi-Wan - seriously this plot was old one when Star Wars came out, now it is just ridiculously played out. plot holes? I can write a book about them, there are so many..
@1701EarlGrey Look man...I'm not in any way trying to run down Gene Roddenberry or the original series. The problem with the Original series was that what Roddenberry had in his head wasn't technologically feasible as far as special effects and props. Why else would TNG look so polished? I also think there are plenty of holes in TOS, and the movies (Star trek IV anyone?) but who gives a shit?! It's a story. Just like this is a story, and it's a cool one. I'm proud to own it.
@Newenlightenmentnow Name one plot hole in Star Trek IV. Come on you brought it up, now prove it! Special Effects technology (thanks to ILM) took giant leaps from 1975-1985. But even with these advancements Gene’s vision never changed from TOS 1966. Gene, unlike Lucas, never cared if it looked "cool". All he cared about was telling his morality tales. That is why the best TNG episodes have little FX in them.
@Trekfreek That may be, but the fact is...the technology in the 1980s was good enough to make a lot of films look modern if you did it right. When I watch TNG, I still find the space battles to be plain awesome. Even the Star Trek movies with the original cast have significant improvements in special effects. Let me post my plot hole in the next post.
@Trekfreek The worst plot hole in Star Trek IV was when Scotty gave that engineer the technology stronger glass, then that guy didn't invent it. In fact there's no point in which this technology is invented as it comes from the future. At least in the movie, we're dealing with an alternate timeline, but none the less, I wish Star Trek in general would stay away from plots that involve giving future technology to people in the past. It's overused, and not very plausible.
@Newenlightenmentnow That’s not a plot hole, that’s a time loop! McCoy: "You realize by giving him the formula we are altering the future." Scotty: “Why? How do we know he did not invent it?" This tells the audience that the Transparent Aluminum was invented in the 20th century but no one knows who invented it. You obviously don't know what a plot hole is! A plot hole is a point in the story with no explanation or the story jumps Whole scenes with no explanation!...
@Newenlightenmentnow How red matter works is never explained PLOT HOLE! Young Kirk on Earth Driving a car off a cliff then BANG he is a young adult 2 PLOT HOLES! What Nero did for 25 years PLOT HOLE! How Spock had the right to assign people to ships without his superiors approval PLOT HOLE! A plot hole is not a plot device that you don't like it is a point in the story where the story is no longer cohesive. It laterally is a HOLE in the PLOT!
@Trekfreek Listen, nobody is trying to say TOS is crap. For it's time, I'm sure it was awesome. Given the choice between that and the crap people watchted at that time, I wouldn't miss it, but don't get mad at people for trying to modernize the show for a new generation, or continuing the franchise. Just because you're a fan of TOS doesn't give you censorship rights. I liked the movie, Iike TOS, I like TNG, I like ENT, and yes, I also like Star Wars, and that's my damn right.
@Newenlightenmentnow MEOW!!! Claws in cat! No one is censoring anyone! I'm just pointing out how wrong you are about the quality of the film. It does not mean I'm ordering you not to watch it or like it!!! PS. I' would be care full about saying "my damn right", the devil is looking for an excuse to take away everyone’s rights.
@Trekfreek Fine, you've made your point, I don't agree with it, and I'm tired of wasting my time debating whether a movie was shit or not. I disagree with your assertion that this movie "took a dump on the Star Trek franchise"
@Newenlightenmentnow I never said "took a dump on the Star Trek franchise". I said it is an insult to the franchise and especially to Gene Roddenberry’s memory. I also said it sucked, and anyone who likes it and claims to be a fan of Star Trek is not a real fan. I also said Prove me wrong, Prove to me that it is a good move without saying dumb things like it made lots of money! But I NEVER EVER said "took a dump on the Star Trek franchise". THIS MOVIE SUCKS BIG TIME!
@Newenlightenmentnow By your angry "Scroll up!" I'm assuming your referring to my comment that hit the most popular comments vote. I think YOU should read it again. You don't need me to insult your intelligence. You're doing it fine on your own.
The onion made a video just for people like you. My favorite quote: "If I wanted to watch young attractive people doing cool and exciting things, you know, I'd go watch sports".
@Newenlightenmentnow What? "You're not making any sense mate." Captain Jack Sparrow. Seriously though... So you think people with missing teeth, shaved heads, & tattoos on their faces who spit everywhere is attractive? I would hate to see some of your dates. I'm not really "an ass" but I play one on Star Trek VII: The Unwanted Storie (here on YouTube). If people like you don't care about Star Trek why do you get upset & call people names when they prove you wrong?
@Trekfreek Well the Onion video parodies how people who call themselves "true trekkies" got so pissed off about the movie. Sure it's satire, and it's over the top, but guess what? The reason satire is funny is there's always a kernel of truth to the spoof.
@Newenlightenmentnow Show some dignity dude. He proved you wrong just admit it to him and move on. Changing the subject, while at the same time including it in your obvious hatred for hard core trekkers, is only going to lead to more humiliation for you. Did you see his channel? The man is educated in everything that is geeky. You're not going to get him upset enough to stoop to your level. He will instead go about proving you wrong about parodies. You can't win!
@BondFreek How the fuck did he prove me wrong? I don't care about his universe because unlike this moron...I can distinguish between fact and fiction. When I turn the TV off, I leave star trek there and go out and get laid. Fuck off.
@Trekfreek Dude, stop. Seriously, you're not winning any arguements and you've completely filled up the comments section. Also, it's not called "political english" it's called trying to communicate respectfully. But since you seem to have no interest in that... go watch Nemesis and leave us people who go out in the sun once in a while alone.
@notablegoat In my day we did not walk on egg shells when we talked to each other. Instead we showed respect by speaking clearly & strait to the point. We did not curse, call people names & try to make smart people look stupid. We respected other people's expertise & accepted or own inabilities to keep up with their field. We didn't think of ourselves as experts just because we liked something. But your generation can't accept anyone being smarter then you, everyone must be equal!..
@notablegoat The mere fact that you are running to the aid of tolls proves that you don't "go out in the sun." (The proper sentence should read "go out into the sun"). Also your comments have been many things but "trying to communicate respectfully" they were not. In my day we did not "try to communicate respectfully" we communicated with respect. This means admitting you're wrong when proven wrong...
@notablegoat You don't seem to get that respect also means knowing when to back down. So, please keep your "go out in the sun" insult jokes to yourself, stop with the "Dude, stop" crap and grow up! It’s a movie, and I have the right to criticize it as much as you have the right to like without a good reason. You want respect? Then you must first give respect. But before you can give respect you must know what respect means. I suggest you look it up!
@Trekfreek I did give respect, and you were an dick. So I threw an insult in there, forgive me. You have a right to criticize it, but we also have a right to tell you to shut up when you get ridiculous. So shut up.
@notablegoat If that is your idea of respect I suggest you take some Ms. Manners classes! I was not "an Dick" I was not even a dick. Also telling people to shut up is oppression so, NO you don't have that right! Being ridiculous is a matter of opinion, unlike the measurement of what makes a movie good or bad. You insult people just because they disagree with you not because they were mean to you. I was not mean to you, aka "an dick" until after you insulted me 5 times. So grow up!
@Trekfreek BTW you really are an ass. Thanks for furthering every negative stereotype about trekkies: arrogant, condescending (particularly about a topic most people don't care about), jerk. I mean you actually think that you somehow own the franchise because idk, you were there from the beginning. GOOD FOR YOU! Nobody gives a shit either!
@Newenlightenmentnow People like you make me laugh. You go around accusing others of thinking that a franchise belongs to them, then you go off & say that George Lucas does not have the right to mess with his own films. Can you say hypocrite! We Die Hard Star Trek fans know we don't "own" the franchise. However, we are the ones who got the franchise started and kept it going for over 40 years. So yes, as customers of the franchise we have the right to complain about changes!
@Newenlightenmentnow Now that is uncalled for! Not just the "bitch" remark but everything you wrote about me to Bondfreek. I also could not help but notice that you went out of your way to mention that you "get laid". You know many experts in human behavior suggest that this is a lie said by virgins who are embarrassed of their virginity and men who can't fully satisfy a woman in bed, usually caused by lack of self confidence. I recommend full sociological therapy.
@Newenlightenmentnow The only person here acting like a "'Jerk'" is you. You’re the one getting all upset over a movie and calling people names and accusing them of saying things they never said. Last, it's not my fault if you walked right into a self deserved insult by not reading the post correctly then saying "Don't insult my intelligence." You made it impossible to resist slamming you.
@Newenlightenmentnow I don't talk only about plote holes, I'm taking also about tired old cliches like young rebel without a cause, like so called hero journey, I'm talking about ripping off other movies like Star Wars, like Wrath of Khan - Nero even had Ceti eel just like Khan. This movie even ripped off Nemesis, both movies had bald psychotic Romulan miner with uber ships and grudge against Federation. This movie don't have identity of his own. Is unoriginal and stupid
@1701EarlGrey Alright, that may be true, but I have this strange feeling that if JJ Abrams had introduced some new innovation that drastically deviated from Star Trek, that the fans would have said "its not Canon". Honestly I say, who cares about canon. Since when does Star Trek have to be like a religion? I've found that movie concepts tend to be recycled over and over anyway.
@Newenlightenmentnow Strangely enough I said nothing about canon. Don't change the subject. :) I only said -repedetly- that this movie is both unoriginal and unintelligent. This movie is embodiment of everything that's wrong with modern day american movie industry. They make those crappy remakes, instead of making good, original stories of the past. They don't put any effort in story, themes, characters, hoping that nostalgia will sell tickets
why is there so much star wars hate? star trek is a tv show and star wars is a film its pretty obvious star wars is better because its a movie its well written and it dosent have to do the ensigns dying and exploding consoles thing every five minutes star treks kool but star wars shot first....wait no that wont work lol
@kallanr360 Star Trek was a TV show from the 60's. Star Wars was from 70's. Also, Star Wars is from a long, long time ago in a galexy far, far away...
I'm going to create a yahoo club for trekies like myself..my page will be for disccussions on star ships and their designs... my favs are NX 2000 Excelsior class, and Miranda and Souyuz class.
@CazK88 That is when Spock is in the Jellyfish heading straight towards the Narada. The Enterprise comes out of nowhere and kills a whole bunch of missiles that the Narada had launched at the Jellyfish.
I'm surprised to see this argument going on here. I'm a Trekkie and yet I understand that the Empire would obliterate the Federation and every other power in the Star Trek galaxy without problem. There are some races that would inflict casualties upon the Imperial fleet (such as the Borg), but they would lack the manpower and infrastructure to actually win a war. It's nothing to take offense at, really. The Empire has simply been around for a far, far, far longer time. Just let it go.
@Rendarth1 Forget the Federation or the Empire, the BSG universe would totally whoop on both of them. The Federation has warp speed, so what? BSG has FTL, jumping anywhere in the universe they want at any time. The Empire has the Force, again, so what? BSG has GOD. Remember, God is love. As for those silly Borg that have to be assimilated or the cloned Storm Troopers, BSG has cylons that resurrect into new bodies when killed. Compare Lea and Seven to Caprica Six. You lose, Trekkie/FanBoys.
Except you forget that the Battlestar Galactica Ships don't have shields. With the weapons of a Federation Starship or an Imperial Star Destroyer, the Battlestar would get it's ass kicked up one way and back down the other.
Except that BSG ships don't have shields, and their FTL range is limited before they have to emerge and jump again. A Federation Starship or Imperial Star Destroyer would kick a battlestar up one way and back down the other.
Why are we comparing these two franchises? They both have a 50-50 chance of destroying eachother:
Star Trek- More powerful weapons, lesser numbers
Star Wars- Less powerful weapons, more numbers
EQUAL. Now stop arguing. Kirk and Luke are far more likey to become friends than fight a pointless battle. It would be nice if the Federation allied with the Rebel Alliance to beat the Empire...
Comparing SW and ST is like comparing black and white zebras to white and black zebras. Get the f over, it was a tv show and a movie, geez. Now get out o yo mommas basement and get laid. Kirk out.
@katakisLives Ok, but the problem is...most newer star trek fans are spoiled by modern special effects technology. Myself included. I guess having movies show you everything in their awesome computer generated graphics makes imagination difficult.
@Newenlightenmentnow "most new star trek fans are spoiled by modern special effects" then they are not true Trek fans. Also I know that to be false, every new TRUE trek fan I have meat loves the original series with or without the new FX. They watch them for the stories and the characters and they all dislike the new movie. It is the fans of the new movie who are claiming to be new Trek fans but they are not! Most of them have never seen any of TOS without modern FX.
@Trekfreek Well I'm going to have to disagree with you. I have seen the original series, and I like the characters. However, the fighting scenes do seriously make me laugh. Even my favorite "mirror mirror" has really hokey fighting...The storyline is cool though. The hardest thing for me to accept is the primitive looking computer. If it looks like something my PC can outperform, my imagination has a hard time imagining it calculates warp drive.
@Newenlightenmentnow Primitive looking? Are you telling me you actually understood what all those lights meant? Did you also forget that according to Trek History that there were 5 world wars? Don't you think it's possible that during those wars we could have lost some of our technology or even went another direction other than silicon chips? As far as the fighting is considered, I have seen real fights and the 60's fights seem more real to me than modern movie fights…
@Trekfreek 5 world wars? I think you're off there. I thought it was only 3 in total. From what I can piece together from memory alpha, there was a world war in 2050, and it sounds like everyone was devestated, but the west seems to have done better. I mean encounter at far point suggests that there were doped up soldiers in the east and kangaroo courts as late as 2070. The Vulcans landed in Montana. If they say that they would have gotten the hell out of there.
@Newenlightenmentnow Your forgetting the Eugenics wars of the 1990's, the war of 2015 and the East vs. West World Wars mentioned in First Contact 2063. PS The kangaroo courts took place in 2079. PS. The Vulcans did not interfere with earth's politics.
@Newenlightenmentnow like I said 5 world wars I, II, Eugenics, 2015, East Earth vs. West Earth. Also, more proof that True Star Trek fans don't like the new movie.
@Trekfreek That's nice, I know about the eugenics wars. Except they were never called a "world war". Memory alpha nothing about 2015, but whatever man. You're a "true star trek fan". Gold star. Nobody actually cares either. The moment I have to start memorizing shit like it's reality, or some sort of test, it ceases to be entertainment. I watch star trek to be entertained. I'm not sure why you watch it.
@Newenlightenmentnow "eugenics wars" "never called a '"world war"'. In Space Seed Spock said "Your so called World Wars" in which McCoy added "The Eugenics Wars." Kahn even said "an attempt to unify humanity." &"WE OFFERD THE WOLD ORDER!" It was a world war. Also, would you say that football fans watch football to be entertained or is it like a second life to them? Just because someone knows their show inside out does not mean they don't watch it to be entertained.
@Trekfreek Well that's your opinion. I can tell you that if you fought that way, you'd likely get yourself beat. Remember, this may be an exploration ship, but they still are a military organization, so martial arts is to be assumed. I think the MACOs in Enterprise did a fantastic job of portraying soldiers, both in their hand to hand combat and weapons use. A federation may be possible, but they'll never be pacifists. Weapons/self-defense is to be assumed.
@Trekfreek I mean I give Roddenberry credit. He came up with the idea before "Moore's Law", and our massive progress in computer technology. Once he made his next series TNG, it became a lot easier to make assumptions about what a ship would look like, and make a computer not look dated. The smartest thing TNG did was build the computer into the background, not show it, and leave nice flat interfaces. In that sense TNG will never look dated.
@Newenlightenmentnow Your argument about TOS's tech, has been said about TNG's Tech by modern movie goers. Everyone criticizes the previous generation's vision of the future regarding Tech. The TNG computers do look dated. It's the 24th century and they still need LG monitors? How come their communicators are not combined with their trycorders and phasors? Why does Picard still use a desk top? The same arguments you make about TOS!...
@Trekfreek Not really. Today we still have large computers for major tasks, and we have touch screen stations. Everything is integrated. Why would you want a tricorder to be a communicator. A tricorder is for analyzing data. I have a smart phone, but I still use it mainly for communication. I wouldn't use it to say, diagnose a patient. The small communicator would still be considered awe inspiring today given its size.
@Trekfreek The original series was excellent and the stories were able to tackle really hard hitting issues (Bread & circuses) all the while giving hope for a better future! I prefer the episodes in the manner that they were transmitted! with the original models and SFX
@Newenlightenmentnow Sounds like a fair point! I was a big fan of the original look of the star trek series and the trappings of the old continuity and I wanted a more clear cut link with the older series and movies!
@katakisLives Thanks! I'm a layman as far as films go, but I know what I like, even if it doesn't make me a "true fan". Did you by chance go to film school?
@Newenlightenmentnow I never attended film school, I guess I also know what I like! I don't feel like I'm in a position to make sweeping definitive statements about what makes a true Star Trek fan or not! I was just dissapointed that they just threw so much of the old continuity in the bin! there was an episode of "Enterprise" that featured a fully authentic Constitution class vessel and I was looking for some TOS authenticity even if the tech looked a bit retro!
@katakisLives I think it sucks that Enterprise was canceled. I loved that series, and I don't care how many people hated it. I know what I like. T'Pol is fully Vulcan yet she's damaged goods thanks to the trellium-D exposure. I like that. What's the fun in having a character that's perfect? I like Captain Archer. He has a personality that just says "dad".If we want to talk about plot holes, lets talk about the series finale of Enterprise.
@Newenlightenmentnow Until you actually learn what plot holes are and how they effect stories then you should not talk about them. I did take classes in film and in writing. The new Star Trek has no cohesion in its story; its characters are 2 dimensional at best 1 dimensional at worst, and the direction was the worst I have seen in a long time! Again I’m not saying you can’t like it. I’m saying it’s the worst film ever, not just the worst Star Trek!!!
@Newenlightenmentnow I can't remember the details but T'Pol got off relatively lightly from her Trellium-D exposure compared to that ship of Vulcan's that went insane and killed each other! didn't they all lose their inhibitions? I think Enterprise was terribly underrated, I wanted more detail on the early Federation and stuff mentioned in TOS, the show got cancelled mid season so they rushed it to an end, its hurried and messy as a result! Enterprise deserved better.
@katakisLives I actually just watched that episode online. I think the Vulcan ship was exposed for months, and according to Dr. Phlox, the Vulcan's on the ship were so badly damaged that it was impossible to generate the part of the brain that suppresses emotion. I thought after such a great episode like Terra Prime, how the hell could the make such a miserable ending to the series. A holideck simulation really? T'Pol and Trip break it off after all they went through. BS!
@katakisLives Oh yeah and Captain Archer's speech, not shown, instead "Computer end simulation" Complete crap. How is it that Trip was killed by unorganized scum. Where were the MACOs? How come no one was sad Trip died? What did T'Pol say to Trip's parents? I'm sure it was a bit more than "it's agreeable to see you". I'm sorry that I ever saw the series finale. The writers should be ashamed of themselves.
@Newenlightenmentnow I agree with all of this! they ran a coach and horses right though one of the pinnacle moments in the history of the Federation! Captain Archer should have been able to give his full speech, I felt really cheated by that cheesy holodeck ending! Trips death wasn't given the gravitas that it deserved T'Pol's rather cold and formal greeting of Trip's parents ignores all of the character developement thoughout the series, star treks normally so good withthat
@fmcc0904 I think the small pulse cannons you see fireing on the Kelvin are the older plasma cannons, in ST2 wrath of karn, the phaser effect they used was more of a rapid pulse than a beam
im sure that at 1 point you see the kelvin fire at and destroy 1 of its own shuttles, and why did they put them stupid pop gun phasers on the enterprise? they look poo when compaired to the kelvins beam phasers
@zebadee277 Actually, the Kelvin destroyed one of the Narada's missiles that was heading for a shuttle. And both the Kelvin and Enterprise had two types of phasers: the pulse and beam type. Which is odd, considering that in the "Prime" timeline, the pulse phasers weren't widely used until DS9...
what we have here is a failure of a star wars geek to keep his filthy mites off of star trek property and as a result has totally screwed up a very sucessful franchise. so in the immortal words of capt kirk AAABBBRRAAAMMMMMS!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can see you really like this film ;D (and, as a matter of fact, so do i. So borg off fixated Star Trek purists and get thyselves Arsemulated, heh heh ;))
i'd like to see the fleet of federation ships here fight the fleet over Endor, around 20 star destroyers, vs 7 or 8 federation ships. ST ships would have the edge at speed and weaponary, but the size of the SW fleet, it'd make no difference. I think ST could hold a decent fight over ST ships, ST ships have only really small weapon batteries and torpedoes.
When NASA names an actual space craft the millenium falcon instead of Enterprise, I may consider what you said. Until then...wrong. :) Oh, and flip phone = TOS communicator. Still waiting to see something based off a lightsaber. Seeing as though star trek has had 10,000x more of a cultural and technological impact than star wars, i think i'll keep my position. Oh wait! The star wars space weapon thing! ROFL!
there is no debate between trek and wars. Star trek is for people with scientific minds and big imaginations. Star wars is for people who simply cannot grasp advanced concepts. Big fight scenes, pew pew, BOOM! sword fight, more pew pew, KABOOM #2!!! plot twist, fight fight, massive explosion, teddy bears, the end.
@sirvegeta what a stupid comment. star trek and star wars are 2 completely different forms of sci-fi adventure. i love both, so does that mean i have a scientific mind and no imagination? if anything, your the one with no imagination as you clearly havent grasped what each show is about have you. could you not argue that the trek films have the same kind of run out? battle, stroy, big battle, loss of someone, fly off, end..........nemesis and wrath of khan anyone?
@Weepiest Amen to that! Technically, I guess I'm a bigger Star Wars fan, but that's only bevuz the only Star Trek I really like is this movie and TOS (which is awesome). But really, SW and ST are so different in so many ways that arguing over which is superior is, I must say, COMPLETELY ILLOGICAL. I don't really care who all you people who like to argue think has better technology, ST is what we think OUR future will be like, SW is in an imaginary galaxy far, far away. So please don't hate.
did you even see the movie the Kelvin is based before kirk was born in your info block thing you said that when the Kulvin is attacked only the enterprise can save her but the enterprise is made 23 years later and also star wars would totaly beat star trek any day of the week
One thing, to this day, that bothers me. Why does Nero's ship have offensive weapons on it. It's a miming vessel for goodness sake. I could see disruptors but these ? WTF ?
Oh and please don't bring up the prequel comic book.
Stay within the movie. I know it'll be hard to do that but none of this BS about well it was edited out, or you have to watch the deleted scenes, or read the graphic novel, etc. The movie states that it's a Romulan mining vessel...nothing more.
Yeah, that intrigued my a bit too. My only reasoning is that, being centuries in the future, the ship is much more advanced than anything Star Fleet has in terms of defense.
Offense wise, I don't think it is highly advanced. Didn't Nero shoot one of those thingy that originally was supposed to help their star from going supernova?? So, not exactly a weapon. He just used it as one. That's my reasoning. You do have a good point. I thought that too.
.........not to be rude but next time: try using star trek legacy to make that cause THIS MOVIE SUCKS im so sorry making that comment-Mario.

there is only one thing worse than this movie... my grammar. I'm not Sorry, about that, English is not my mother tongue. But I hope I I get my point across. And unlike Orci, Kurtzman and Abrams I can admit my mistake. :)

CptChaos47 1 month ago
@CptChaos47 No. He just loves ripping this bad movie pieces. If you want him to stop just prove to him that Star Trek (XI) is a well written solid story, with good characters, believable events & believable science. Good luck, because everyone who has tried to prove him wrong ended up feeling like an idiot because they could not dispute his facts. Every one of them stooped to personal insults because they lost the argument. I believe you had a run in with him before & lost as well.
BondFreek 1 month ago 3
@BondFreek I never said I wanted him to stop, I just find it funny he is wasting his time trying to convince people it's a bad movie, when either way, it's just ones opinion, not fact. Trying to tell people otherwise is pointless, you either like it or you don't.
CptChaos47 1 month ago
@CptChaos47 First off Yes we had a "run in a back in 2010. Second, entertainment is described differently then you think. What makes a show good or bad is the same thing that makes a poem is good or bad. It's not just taste; it is how it holds up to the standards set by experts, which are over 1,000 of years old. Example of your definition of good or bad would mean that movies like Plan 9 from outer Space did not disserve the Raspberry Award or movies like Gandhi dose...
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@CptChaos47... disserve the Raspberry award. Good or bad is not a matter of taste. It is a matter of established formulas of writing, directing, acting, & effects. When I watch a Godzilla movie I enjoy it in the same way you enjoy this new Crap Trek, but I’m not going to say that they are good movies. WHY? Because they do not conform to what qualifies as good movies.
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@BondFreek And no I did not have a "run in" with him like everyone else.
CptChaos47 1 month ago
Well, since 'no-body' has managed to explain what has made this movie a GOOD movie. I will.. First of all the acting isn't wooden, secondly the CGI has had a vast improvement since the last of the star trek films, therefore revoloutionising the general stereotype of Star Trek, and thirdly, the director J.J Abramsemploys simple techniques to make rich/in-depth films ... The point is, fair enough you don't like it. But quite a few people do, so suck it up. ;)
StIrLiNSiLvEr 1 month ago
@StIrLiNSiLvEr 1st for the 1,000,000 time I know people like it & that's fine, but stop trying to shut me up for pointing out why this movie sucks. Second what makes a good movie is not limited to just acting and if you like shaky cameras done to death ever since Jar Jar stole it from Firefly. It is also the story. The Story and the script make or break a film. A film must do more than just entertain it also is to convince you that you are in the film, ST:XI failed to do that...
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@StIrLiNSiLvEr The very first scene had so many lens flares I thought that I was having my eyes examined. There was the over the top performance of the villain and his killing the captain for no reason. A human baby born with in 5 minutes of the woman's water breaking; never happens. The longer I watched the more I had to entertain myself because this movie was anything but entertaining. There was nothing for the audience to relate too...It was just one FX after another crap fest.
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@StIrLiNSiLvEr I never felt connected with any of the characters. I hated Kirk from the very second he drove that bike off the cliff and my hate for him grew as he did one selfish act after another. I was cheering for the ice monster to eat him! I wanted to bitch slap Spock and tell him to grow some balls! I wanted to put pike in rehab because he acted more like a hippie then a Captain! I had to do a Mystery Science Theater 3,000 to it just to make it through the movie...
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@StIrLiNSiLvEr The villain was a complete moron who wants revenge on someone who was trying to help & he also forgets that he can change the future. The hero goes from cadet to captain of the flagship over experienced officers because he is a lucky ass hole. Old Spock does not give a shit about ruining future lives. Young Spock is omnipotent when it comes to machines. This movie is so bad it's the only movie that took me three days to watch it all the way through the first time.

Please stick to only the movie & describe in detail what & how (if at all) it holds up to what film school would consider a good film and good story telling. (No one has succeeded in answering the question with even one good point. Good Luck
Trekfreek 1 month ago 10
@Trekfreek I have a feeling you went out of your way to ask for specifics of what in this film would have artistic merit, being fully aware that most people would have no idea what to say. Based on that, it stands to reason that you have encountered many people who beleive this movie to be good based soley on the fact that it is enjoyable, and hate that it's possible you could be wrong about your precious franchise. And my opinion is a valid as everyone elses, so its you who's trying to censor.

JJ abrams just dump shit on star trek franchise...
whatthafuckisthis 2 months ago 3
@whatthafuckisthis Really? At what point did he dump shit on the franchise? Was it with the well thought out storyline? Or the modern technology portraying the Enterprise? Or perhaps it was when he chose not to include hokey fighting scenes that looked like overweight guys in a costume. I know I'm not a "true" trekkie if i don't hate this film.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow "well thought out storyline"? Let's examine that notion... Why did Nero kill the Calvin's Captain? Why did Young Kirk drive the car off the cliff? Why did Spock fraternizing with a student but did not tolerate others breaking the rules? Why did Nero leave old Spock in walking distance of a star base if he wanted him to die from exposure? If you can't answer these questions logically then it was not a "well thought out storyline"
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Trekfreek Well from my understanding Nero didn't care if old spock lived or died. The revenge was him having to live with being an endangered species, and having everything he knew and valued destroyed. Young Kirk is not the same Kirk as TOS, as his dad died. How do we know that George Kirk wasn't there to whip Jim into shape? Spock didn't fraternize with Uhura until the end. Since Spock lost 1 world, he embraced his human side more than TOS Spock. Events have consequences.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow If Nero wanted Spock to live and suffer why did he beam him down to a hostel planet in the first place? Your argument for young Kirk is lame! He had his mother and uncle. Riker lost his mother when he was a baby he still grew up with a tender hart. Your argument is flawed. Did you not notice how Uhura used her pussy whip powers to get on to the Enterprise? And if they did start dating on the enterprise when did that happen? (BLACK HOLE PLOT HOLE!) ...
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Trekfreek I don't know. If I were as good as Uhura was in the evaluations, I would be pissed at Spock for not giving me the best ship. That's what I got out of it. She was saying, he listen jerk, you screwed me, even though I'm your best student.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow Also, how did Spock get the authority to re assign people without consulting with the Admirals? Spock did not “embrace his human side” until the end of the movie when he talked to his old self. You really should pay more attention to the story instead of making up excuses for all the plot holes.
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow "Was it with the well thought out storyline"??? don't make my laugh. This movie was full of plot holes and clichés. Kirk is stereotypical rebel without a cause, cruising on motorbike He is also another boring incarnation of hero with a thousand faces, he is Luke and cap. Pike is his Obi-Wan - seriously this plot was old one when Star Wars came out, now it is just ridiculously played out. plot holes? I can write a book about them, there are so many..
1701EarlGrey 1 month ago
@1701EarlGrey Whatever you say. I liked it.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@1701EarlGrey Look man...I'm not in any way trying to run down Gene Roddenberry or the original series. The problem with the Original series was that what Roddenberry had in his head wasn't technologically feasible as far as special effects and props. Why else would TNG look so polished? I also think there are plenty of holes in TOS, and the movies (Star trek IV anyone?) but who gives a shit?! It's a story. Just like this is a story, and it's a cool one. I'm proud to own it.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow Name one plot hole in Star Trek IV. Come on you brought it up, now prove it! Special Effects technology (thanks to ILM) took giant leaps from 1975-1985. But even with these advancements Gene’s vision never changed from TOS 1966. Gene, unlike Lucas, never cared if it looked "cool". All he cared about was telling his morality tales. That is why the best TNG episodes have little FX in them.
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Trekfreek That may be, but the fact is...the technology in the 1980s was good enough to make a lot of films look modern if you did it right. When I watch TNG, I still find the space battles to be plain awesome. Even the Star Trek movies with the original cast have significant improvements in special effects. Let me post my plot hole in the next post.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Trekfreek The worst plot hole in Star Trek IV was when Scotty gave that engineer the technology stronger glass, then that guy didn't invent it. In fact there's no point in which this technology is invented as it comes from the future. At least in the movie, we're dealing with an alternate timeline, but none the less, I wish Star Trek in general would stay away from plots that involve giving future technology to people in the past. It's overused, and not very plausible.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow That’s not a plot hole, that’s a time loop! McCoy: "You realize by giving him the formula we are altering the future." Scotty: “Why? How do we know he did not invent it?" This tells the audience that the Transparent Aluminum was invented in the 20th century but no one knows who invented it. You obviously don't know what a plot hole is! A plot hole is a point in the story with no explanation or the story jumps Whole scenes with no explanation!...
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow How red matter works is never explained PLOT HOLE! Young Kirk on Earth Driving a car off a cliff then BANG he is a young adult 2 PLOT HOLES! What Nero did for 25 years PLOT HOLE! How Spock had the right to assign people to ships without his superiors approval PLOT HOLE! A plot hole is not a plot device that you don't like it is a point in the story where the story is no longer cohesive. It laterally is a HOLE in the PLOT!
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Trekfreek Listen, nobody is trying to say TOS is crap. For it's time, I'm sure it was awesome. Given the choice between that and the crap people watchted at that time, I wouldn't miss it, but don't get mad at people for trying to modernize the show for a new generation, or continuing the franchise. Just because you're a fan of TOS doesn't give you censorship rights. I liked the movie, Iike TOS, I like TNG, I like ENT, and yes, I also like Star Wars, and that's my damn right.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago

@Newenlightenmentnow I never said "took a dump on the Star Trek franchise". I said it is an insult to the franchise and especially to Gene Roddenberry’s memory. @Trekfreek Well the Onion video parodies how people who call themselves "true trekkies" got so pissed off about the movie. Sure it's satire, and it's over the top, but guess what? The reason satire is funny is there's always a kernel of truth to the spoof.

We didn't think of ourselves as experts just because we liked something. But your generation can't accept anyone being smarter then you, everyone must be equal!..

@1701EarlGrey Alright, that may be true, but I have this strange feeling that if JJ Abrams had introduced some new innovation that drastically deviated from Star Trek, that the fans would have said "its not Canon". why is there so much star wars hate? star trek is a tv show and star wars is a film its pretty obvious star wars is better because its a movie its well written and it dosent have to do the ensigns dying and exploding consoles thing every five minutes star treks kool but star wars shot first....wait no that wont work lol
kallanr360 4 months ago
@kallanr360 Star Trek was a TV show from the 60's. Star Wars was from 70's. Also, Star Wars is from a long, long time ago in a galexy far, far away...

Rendarth1 1 year ago
@Rendarth1 Forget the Federation or the Empire, the BSG universe would totally whoop on both of them. The Federation has warp speed, so what? BSG has FTL, jumping anywhere in the universe they want at any time. The Empire has the Force, again, so what? BSG has GOD. Remember, God is love. As for those silly Borg that have to be assimilated or the cloned Storm Troopers, BSG has cylons that resurrect into new bodies when killed. Compare Lea and Seven to Caprica Six. You lose, Trekkie/FanBoys.

@BloodofPatriots
Except you forget that the Battlestar Galactica Ships don't have shields. With the weapons of a Federation Starship or an Imperial Star Destroyer, the Battlestar would get it's ass kicked up one way and back down the other.

@BloodofPatriots
Except that BSG ships don't have shields, and their FTL range is limited before they have to emerge and jump again. A Federation Starship or Imperial Star Destroyer would kick a battlestar up one way and back down the other.
Laurapost2010 1 year ago
@BloodofPatriots ST warp takes time to proceed to destination.
BSG FTL takes less than 0.05 seconds.
shields may not affect simple KEW shells
ST does not have fighters, BSG has Cylon hacker by the name of athena.
SW fighters cant glide or fly backwards cannons toward enemy, wepons fire at less rate. or cylons can take out any SW/ST computer system in seconds.
SW/ST weapons may be powerful but SW missiles/weapons will get clobbered by galactica/basestar flak
again each has own universe.
nakazatoGTR 10 months ago
@nakazatoGTR ST does have fighters in a broad sense, just not aboard most Federation flagships /nitpick

the should have warp sped into them, and object that large moving at the speed of light would completely vaporize anything it hit.

Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow "most new star trek fans are spoiled by modern special effects" then they are not true Trek fans. Also I know that to be false, every new TRUE trek fan I have meat loves the original series with or without the new FX. They watch them for the stories and the characters and they all dislike the new movie. It is the fans of the new movie who are claiming to be new Trek fans but they are not! Most of them have never seen any of TOS without modern FX.
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Trekfreek Well I'm going to have to disagree with you. I have seen the original series, and I like the characters. However, the fighting scenes do seriously make me laugh. Even my favorite "mirror mirror" has really hokey fighting...The storyline is cool though. The hardest thing for me to accept is the primitive looking computer. If it looks like something my PC can outperform, my imagination has a hard time imagining it calculates warp drive.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow Primitive looking? Are you telling me you actually understood what all those lights meant? Did you also forget that according to Trek History that there were 5 world wars? Don't you think it's possible that during those wars we could have lost some of our technology or even went another direction other than silicon chips? As far as the fighting is considered, I have seen real fights and the 60's fights seem more real to me than modern movie fights…
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Trekfreek 5 world wars? I think you're off there. I thought it was only 3 in total. From what I can piece together from memory alpha, there was a world war in 2050, and it sounds like everyone was devestated, but the west seems to have done better. I mean encounter at far point suggests that there were doped up soldiers in the east and kangaroo courts as late as 2070. The Vulcans landed in Montana. If they say that they would have gotten the hell out of there.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow Your forgetting the Eugenics wars of the 1990's, the war of 2015 and the East vs. West World Wars mentioned in First Contact 2063. PS The kangaroo courts took place in 2079. PS. The Vulcans did not interfere with earth's politics.
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow like I said 5 world wars I, II, Eugenics, 2015, East Earth vs. West Earth. Also, more proof that True Star Trek fans don't like the new movie.
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Trekfreek That's nice, I know about the eugenics wars. Except they were never called a "world war". Memory alpha nothing about 2015, but whatever man. You're a "true star trek fan". Gold star. Nobody actually cares either. The moment I have to start memorizing shit like it's reality, or some sort of test, it ceases to be entertainment. I watch star trek to be entertained. I'm not sure why you watch it.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow "eugenics wars" "never called a '"world war"'. In Space Seed Spock said "Your so called World Wars" in which McCoy added "The Eugenics Wars." Kahn even said "an attempt to unify humanity." &"WE OFFERD THE WOLD ORDER!" It was a world war. Also, would you say that football fans watch football to be entertained or is it like a second life to them? Just because someone knows their show inside out does not mean they don't watch it to be entertained.
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Trekfreek Well that's your opinion. I can tell you that if you fought that way, you'd likely get yourself beat. Remember, this may be an exploration ship, but they still are a military organization, so martial arts is to be assumed. I think the MACOs in Enterprise did a fantastic job of portraying soldiers, both in their hand to hand combat and weapons use. A federation may be possible, but they'll never be pacifists. Weapons/self-defense is to be assumed.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Trekfreek I mean I give Roddenberry credit. He came up with the idea before "Moore's Law", and our massive progress in computer technology. Once he made his next series TNG, it became a lot easier to make assumptions about what a ship would look like, and make a computer not look dated. The smartest thing TNG did was build the computer into the background, not show it, and leave nice flat interfaces. In that sense TNG will never look dated.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow Your argument about TOS's tech, has been said about TNG's Tech by modern movie goers. Everyone criticizes the previous generation's vision of the future regarding Tech. The TNG computers do look dated. It's the 24th century and they still need LG monitors? How come their communicators are not combined with their trycorders and phasors? Why does Picard still use a desk top? The same arguments you make about TOS!...
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Trekfreek Not really. Today we still have large computers for major tasks, and we have touch screen stations. Everything is integrated. Why would you want a tricorder to be a communicator. A tricorder is for analyzing data. I have a smart phone, but I still use it mainly for communication. I wouldn't use it to say, diagnose a patient. The small communicator would still be considered awe inspiring today given its size.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Trekfreek The original series was excellent and the stories were able to tackle really hard hitting issues (Bread & circuses) all the while giving hope for a better future! I prefer the episodes in the manner that they were transmitted! with the original models and SFX
katakisLives 1 month ago 2
@Newenlightenmentnow Sounds like a fair point! I was a big fan of the original look of the star trek series and the trappings of the old continuity and I wanted a more clear cut link with the older series and movies!
katakisLives 1 month ago
@katakisLives Thanks! I'm a layman as far as films go, but I know what I like, even if it doesn't make me a "true fan". Did you by chance go to film school?
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow I never attended film school, I guess I also know what I like! I don't feel like I'm in a position to make sweeping definitive statements about what makes a true Star Trek fan or not! I was just dissapointed that they just threw so much of the old continuity in the bin! there was an episode of "Enterprise" that featured a fully authentic Constitution class vessel and I was looking for some TOS authenticity even if the tech looked a bit retro!
katakisLives 1 month ago
@katakisLives I think it sucks that Enterprise was canceled. I loved that series, and I don't care how many people hated it. I know what I like. T'Pol is fully Vulcan yet she's damaged goods thanks to the trellium-D exposure. I like that. What's the fun in having a character that's perfect? I like Captain Archer. He has a personality that just says "dad".If we want to talk about plot holes, lets talk about the series finale of Enterprise.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow Until you actually learn what plot holes are and how they effect stories then you should not talk about them. I did take classes in film and in writing. The new Star Trek has no cohesion in its story; its characters are 2 dimensional at best 1 dimensional at worst, and the direction was the worst I have seen in a long time! Again I’m not saying you can’t like it. I’m saying it’s the worst film ever, not just the worst Star Trek!!!
Trekfreek 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow I can't remember the details but T'Pol got off relatively lightly from her Trellium-D exposure compared to that ship of Vulcan's that went insane and killed each other! didn't they all lose their inhibitions? I think Enterprise was terribly underrated, I wanted more detail on the early Federation and stuff mentioned in TOS, the show got cancelled mid season so they rushed it to an end, its hurried and messy as a result! Enterprise deserved better.
katakisLives 1 month ago
@katakisLives I actually just watched that episode online. I think the Vulcan ship was exposed for months, and according to Dr. Phlox, the Vulcan's on the ship were so badly damaged that it was impossible to generate the part of the brain that suppresses emotion. I thought after such a great episode like Terra Prime, how the hell could the make such a miserable ending to the series. A holideck simulation really? T'Pol and Trip break it off after all they went through. BS!
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@katakisLives Oh yeah and Captain Archer's speech, not shown, instead "Computer end simulation" Complete crap. How is it that Trip was killed by unorganized scum. Where were the MACOs? How come no one was sad Trip died? What did T'Pol say to Trip's parents? I'm sure it was a bit more than "it's agreeable to see you". I'm sorry that I ever saw the series finale. The writers should be ashamed of themselves.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 month ago
@Newenlightenmentnow I agree with all of this! they ran a coach and horses right though one of the pinnacle moments in the history of the Federation! Captain Archer should have been able to give his full speech, I felt really cheated by that cheesy holodeck ending! Trips death wasn't given the gravitas that it deserved T'Pol's rather cold and formal greeting of Trip's parents ignores all of the character developement thoughout the series, star treks normally so good withthat
katakisLives 1 month ago
@fmcc0904 I think the small pulse cannons you see fireing on the Kelvin are the older plasma cannons, in ST2 wrath of karn, the phaser effect they used was more of a rapid pulse than a beam
zebadee277 1 year ago
im sure that at 1 point you see the kelvin fire at and destroy 1 of its own shuttles, and why did they put them stupid pop gun phasers on the enterprise? they look poo when compaired to the kelvins beam phasers
zebadee277 1 year ago
@zebadee277 Actually, the Kelvin destroyed one of the Narada's missiles that was heading for a shuttle. And both the Kelvin and Enterprise had two types of phasers: the pulse and beam type. Which is odd, considering that in the "Prime" timeline, the pulse phasers weren't widely used until DS9...

Star Wars is a fairy tale set in space
Beautiful princess*Leia) gets captured by evil wizard(Vader) and gets taken to his fortress(Death Star)
Her faithfull servant( R2 D2) set out to find the good wizard(Obi Wan)
Good wizard and his farmboy apprentice(Luke) raid the fortress with the help of the rogue with a heart(Solo)
And in the end the evil wizard is defeated and his master(Tarkin) is killed

i'd like to see the fleet of federation ships here fight the fleet over Endor, around 20 star destroyers, vs 7 or 8 federation ships.

ROFL!
sirvegeta 1 year ago
there is no debate between trek and wars. Star trek is for people with scientific minds and big imaginations. Star wars is for people who simply cannot grasp advanced concepts. Big fight scenes, pew pew, BOOM! sword fight, more pew pew, KABOOM #2!!! plot twist, fight fight, massive explosion, teddy bears, the end.
sirvegeta 1 year ago
@sirvegeta what a stupid comment. star trek and star wars are 2 completely different forms of sci-fi adventure. i love both, so does that mean i have a scientific mind and no imagination? if anything, your the one with no imagination as you clearly havent grasped what each show is about have you. could you not argue that the trek films have the same kind of run out? battle, stroy, big battle, loss of someone, fly off, end..........nemesis and wrath of khan anyone?
Weepiest 1 year ago
@Weepiest Amen to that! Technically, I guess I'm a bigger Star Wars fan, but that's only bevuz the only Star Trek I really like is this movie and TOS (which is awesome). But really, SW and ST are so different in so many ways that arguing over which is superior is, I must say, COMPLETELY ILLOGICAL. I don't really care who all you people who like to argue think has better technology, ST is what we think OUR future will be like, SW is in an imaginary galaxy far, far away. So please don't hate.

The movie states that it's a Romulan mining vessel...nothing more.
fmscribs 2 years ago
Yeah, that intrigued my a bit too. My only reasoning is that, being centuries in the future, the ship is much more advanced than anything Star Fleet has in terms of defense.
Offense wise, I don't think it is highly advanced. Didn't Nero shoot one of those thingy that originally was supposed to help their star from going supernova?? So, not exactly a weapon. He just used it as one. That's my reasoning. You do have a good point. I thought that too.
