@blueclouds4me we started doing that in my family a while back and I really appreciated it. Then it fell apart with some sneaky devils donating to the charity AND giving gifts. Luckily I didn't fall back into gift-giving formation!

Very, very beautiful, and you are so right. We tend to blanket the beauty of the season with gifts and endless decorations. Several years ago, I unapologetically told everyone that I would no longer be giving gifts and did not expect to receive any (although, being a kind person, I still graciously accept them when given :-) Going to fav this one, Lesley.
@Perroquet51 I'm the same Marc, I went overboard for so many years doing Christmas and got fed up with the hamster wheel. I quit gifting and feel quite free - except when people go overboard and give me extravagant gifts! But then they may be in the same place I was a few years ago and just need to go through the process and learn the lesson themselves! So I, too, and gracious ;D

(adding melodica and glockenspiel ) - I didn't have the original audio file so it's quite compressed, so upped the reverb to cover the pops and clicks! Then sound FX to cover the cock-ups! Then Photoshop. Illustrator for the images to slot i.

I totally agree - except for the pint of cheer....with all the commercialism usurping Christmas spirit, one must have a good pint of cheer (or two...or three) to unwind after dodging crazy town Christmas-sale purchasers... ;)

I feel like Christmas has turned into this machine that you can't escape. The years I try to embrace it, I ultimately get disappointed because the people around me lose sight of what true meaning is all about. When I take a more stripped back approach (like I'm doing this year), saying no to all the commercialism and work that just makes everybody stressed out, I'm letting down somebody around me who doesn't get my approach.
@anakin1814 I used to really be into Christmas - but I had 3 stepkids + huge extended family, and it turned into a chore of buying/decorating/cooking/partying/cleaning - and then paying bills! I started to re-evaluate, got rid of all my Christmas decor (an attic full - believe me) and really enjoy the simple get togethers and laid back pace. I don't buy presents and don't like to exchange them (although some still insist ) which makes for a more meaningful time. Merry Christmas Gary xox

I missed it last year, so it was new to me and I loved it. Just perfect. Yesterday I asked my 5 year old granddaughter what she thinks Christmas is all about. "Spending time with your family and other people you love. Eating good things and giving presents." Not getting, giving! I love that. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
