@Jullieena well you should see how the front legs land after a huge showjump, now that is crunching. nothing but nice soft ground to lessen the impact after this ditch out in a field though.

after all, even if a horse does fall in do you really think that all the people standing around watching are going to walk away and leave it there? When are horse falls in, anyone who's around will come over and help to get it out, staying there for hours, as long as it takes to get it out. I know that if my horse got stuck inn a ditch, there would be so many people willing to help, and even if your out the country with no crowd watching somebody will get off their horse to help you.

@SnowstormXD13 I'm the eighth rider. I know it's hard to count when they're going past so quickly. :) Some people are saying that wasn't a very suitable ditch. Well actually this would be one of the best and apart from it's size, easiest ones to do. IT's noce and clean,meaning no branches or stuff like that on the way so the horse can see to the bottom and judge it properly. You're not going in under a tree or anything so you won't get caught. Imo it's almost the perfect ditch!

Ok, i actually agree with hunting more then showjumping. In the wild, most breeds of horses would have to face ditches in their life, and love it. Ok some of these riders didn't have the best positions, but jumping ditches is fucking hard :\ I jumpedone half the size & was clinging on for dear life! Horses enjoy this more, showjumping.. it's not a natural thing, its scary colourful poles in a sand arena which they get smacked to go over.

ok, to everyone with the negative comments! The way I see it, its just as dangerous as other horse disciplines, and perhaps more fun! Things can go wrong on a hack you know. A horse could just as easily injure itself when jumping over a fence, especially a big one. Whereas here the horse doesn't have to go as high as a particular obstacle, they can choose how big a jump they want to do. As you can see in the video the mare I'm on decides to to a perfectly normal jump that isn't catleaping.

@barnbums123 ok look, you are american, you do stuff differently to irish, about posture, id love to see you try it, you have to just go with the horse, it knows what its doing, and most likely your like every other american rider i know who goes show jumping. us were brought up on bareback , flying around fields on mad yolks. if those horses were in the wild what would they be jumping over,a stream or yere shiny poles that ye jump. we are not less smart or less better than you, see the world.

@77iggy1 if a horse doesn't make the fence in show jumping though all the poles fall so it is a lot safer. if a horse slips there it could be bad. I just know my horse trust me and i wouldn't send her over anything that could be potentially quite dangerous.

why poor horses?? the majority of hunters love what they do!My horse goes for ditches himself you dont even need to squeeze, he pricks his ears and flys! Yes it may be dangerous but thats the whole thrill of it!! Def dont go hunting in Ireland so if your worried about falling in!! Seriously try it, you'll get bit by the hunting bug and never look back!

They are capable, most horses are. But it's slippy, with cut fences and half of those horses slam down hard on their back legs. I ride out ALOT more then in my field.. i don't eve have an arena, so agree with yyou there :)

Thank you everyone that said well done!If you have a good horse that doesn't jump too big cos he'll fire you out of the saddle,or doesn't jump too small cos you'll fall in, it really isn't that bad!!! The mare I'm on in this video is in between and is a very good ditch jumper,she'd take anyone round.She made it look easy,and made it easy for me to stay on lol.I suppose it's for brave horses and riders though cos there's nothing worse than your horse stopping at the first ditch and you going home

I'm the 8th rider to jump it, after a group of four horses jumping together-a steel grey,a chestnut doing a big leap,a grey with a fella on him nearly yanked out of the saddle and a dark bay. They're all before me. If you listen to the two "commentators" (my friends) you'll hear them say "go on Sue" and they're cheering me on. Then I jump it.

well knowing hunt runs someone is likely to have fallen off, maybe not at that ditch but definately someone always falls off!! Happenend to me a couple of times but as long as your horse isn't injured you just get straight back up and carry on like nothing happened lol.
