Indeed, they are not professional bike racers. It's humor.

Empire Mine Rd. was closed to autos due to so much vandalism, and livestock being shot. It's really nice as it is now. There are families walking and folks on bikes. It's a big improvement.

The road itself isn't haunted, but it runs through the outer edges of a region that is. Someone going through at night might see or hear a few strange things (emphasis on -might-), but overall there's nothing that's 'gonna getcha' on the road.

From what I've heard they closed it down due to an excess of scumbag criminal activity on the remote road, including killings and mutilations of farm animals, property vandalism, drug dealing, etc. The local residents and the cops were sick of the situation. Since the county took away folks' ability to DRIVE out there, the problems have decreased greatly. IMHO the road IS haunted, though. Or at least some of the abandoned sites out there are.
