This man should be given the Noble Peace Prize, (or its according equivalent) for his contributions to humanity. I just cannot believe how the hell they don't see it or may be they don't want to see it. (Stablishment, Status Quo, Imperialism, UltraCapitalism, etc)
Anyhow, his words will be remembered and quoted, in hundreds of years to come, of that i'm sure.
Dr. Stallman, you already won the "global comunity" award. The world thanks, salutes, and loves you!!
I'd like to point out that "piles of money" tends to be more useful in helping your "neighbors" than does open-source software. That is, the money that Bill Gates donates to fighting malaria in Africa (money made by selling proprietary software) will do more good than giving GNU/Linux to people rich enough to own computers.
@StupidIdiot12345 Fair point, and great name to help your point, but you can't trust a company to always make such donations, and compared with the amount of money people give them, is it really as high a percent as the average donor to similar causes?
Join us now and share the software; You'll be free, hackers, you'll be free. x2 Hoarders may get piles of money, That is true, hackers, that is true. But they cannot help their neighbors; That ain't good, hackers, that ain't good. When we have enough free software At our call, hackers, at our call, We'll kick out those dirty licenses Ever more, hackers, ever more. Join us now and share the software; You'll be free, hackers, you'll be free. x2
@scorici Ok first off all. I do agree with Richard that software should be free and that it is the only decent way of doing software. However by a rather embarressing stunt like this song I believe does not help the cause. Most people think "I don't want to be like this guy because it's stupid" and therefore does not distinguish between the song / person and the ideology. Free software may be a lot better than proprietary software in many cases but let's promote it professionally instead!
@sueroski The man won't congratulate a peer on a newborn child and believes that you shouldn't have babies. He has serious sympathy/empathy problems. Don't idolize the man.
@itachisxeyes totally agree .. although i have to admit the tune is kinda catchy .. i've been humming "you'll be freeEEEee~" ever since i heard it! :D
Could you be any more vague? I've been to his personal website several times and read many different pages on there over the years, and I have yet to come to the conclusion that he has "no respect for human life". Quite the opposite, actually.
Even assuming your accusation is true, however... it doesn't bode well for respecting human life by suggestion someone's freedom should be taken away on philosophical or political grounds rather than legal grounds.
That's awesome. See, even my paradigm is limited (even though I listen to some modal music, including western Medieval chant and yes, a tiny bit of eastern European folk music!). Thanks for pointing out the source! I appreciate it :-)
Uh, has anybody else noticed the really poorly handled tension between Ionian and Dorian modes in this song? It keeps ending on (Ionian) scale degree 2, but there's no compelling musical evidence for it being in anything other than Ionian, especially considering the musical paradigm he's likely writing from.
Hehe, I'm not just talking nonsense, it's all legit. I just like poking fun at Stallman's way of expressing himself, although he's actually a pretty neat guy.
@FornicateMinors I know how to compile and install. I just think it's really stupid. I hate how linux users think they're uber hackers just because they memorize commands. As for the Synaptic Package Manager. People don't want 500 versions of the same software, where every version is lacking in something, or is bugged like hell. I don't care if you can copy or move files with one line. What I hate most is an irrational hate against MS just because it's linux culture to do so. Bunch of zombies.
@Plissken07 "where every version is lacking in something, or is bugged like hell." have you even tried any of the programs you're attacking? what's irrational is your assumption that free software is buggy and repetitive when it has more developers, goes under more scrutiny and generally gets more code contributed back to it when compared with proprietary software.
@Plissken07 Get a .iso of ubuntu. I'ts short and you won't regret. Ubuntu is the best for making 'the pass' between the OS, and from there get the distribution you prefer.
