  • I like men now.

  • YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH

  • Wayne has already touched on this, but his guitar is fitted out with an Aleses airfx (I believe it's called) which operates like a theremin. The guitar serves the purpose of handling this in a convenient manner, while he can pretend to rock out like Elvis in the meantime. The rest of the band are playing their parts.

  • Is it me or the main singer is pretending he's playing the guitar? lol

  • @toni666beatles The Flaming Lips often mime when playing live... I've seen them live, and you can tell by a lot of their performances like this. Sometimes it's really obvious and only the drums are the instrument being played live (aside from vocals), but most of the time, they do it just because their music has so many complex elements that it cannot be played live, so they use a backing track. They still generally play most of it live though.

  • @dradfromthebu But WTF? I was so disappointed. I love The Flaming Lips but, play-back? Really?

  • @toni666beatles It's not like a HUGE deal, they just do it because their songs have really complex parts that were created in-studio and it would be almost impossible to perform it live. The best example is look on the right for the video called Flaming lips and Justin Timberlake. You can tell that they are playing over a prerecorded backing track.

  • @dradfromthebu I know! But if you get a guitar, play it!

  • @dradfromthebu they mimed on that song because they were on TOTP in which every band has to mime except the vocals even Nirvana were forced to mime on there although Kurt made a mockery of the show by changing the vocals and by not even bothering to pretend to play the guitar.

  • @groovey65 Pretty sure that's David Letterman's show, not TOTP.. just sayin

  • @MentalForIt which one the nirvana or flaming lips performance not that it matters as I can assure you both were on TOTP, I would link you the videos both of which I have open in different tabs right now if youtube would let me.

  • @groovey65 Sorry man, was saying this one is letterman not totp, got confused and now realise you were replying to another comment that i hadn't seen. You fell victim to me being an idiot and you being the most recent comment

  • @MentalForIt haha it's cool man, it happens.

  • @toni666beatles For the record, the song is played in open E, and most of the chords are variations of the open E; he pretty much just has to alternate moving his thumb from the 4th fret to a completely open one for most of the song, minus the other chords which he IS playing if you watch.

  • Loving the anti-bush button

  • Definitely some miming going on here.

  • who is the drummer,

  • @plasticassasin68 Kliph Scurlock

  • Based on the comments... is Wayne Coyne=Chuck Norris?

  • I have accepted Wayne Coyne as my personal savior.

  • wow the singer isn't as great as in the recorded version, but compared to other bands live they're pretty good.

they're all in time with eachother and they're mostly in tune and they're true to the recording

  • Can someone please explain the whole legend behind Wayne at how he is the classiest guy ever? I want to get in on this :L

  • o man im so not going to primus early for this shit. sucks im gonna have to sit through a song or two by this terrible band

  • I would take all of the money and distribute it evenly amongst all of the people in the world who had not been notably greedy beforehand....Thus, I would leave many of the worlds millionaires and billionaires penniless, and let them think about all the people they could have helped, but chose not to... This group would certainly not include Warren Buffett, as he is a GREAT man, and has always been very modest and charitable.

  • i always thought that thing in the middle of wayne's guitar was some kind of trigger for a sampler. that's what i've read anywho.

  • I dont think Wayne's left hand ever changes position.

  • @rebelbaseball97 He's not actually playing guitar. There some sort of magnet that makes sound when he moves his right hand

    Opiniones y comentarios bienvenidos! saludos!

  • @ixlizmx no I actually think you're right and he's not playing, cuz even in an open tuning he's not making any chord changes. w/e no biggie

  • @ixlizmx he is playing. he's in an open tuning

  • @TaffyRaphie but what tuning?

  • @RussianThickness1 now that I look at it again....he's not changing from an open guitar to anything else...idk...weird...

    maybe he isn't playing?

  • saw them on embryonic tour. it was absolutely mind blowing

  • love it. need to see them live again. real soon....

  • Comment removed

  • i feel like wayne is in an open tuning...

  • @CutieiiTrudieei251 foreveralone.gif

  • i really like this band, but i truly do not understand why wayne needs to hold a guitar if he's not gonna play it...

  • @quadruplewide i read that there's a synth build in, which makes noises when he moves his hand..

  • @quadruplewide ther is some strange pickup sub woofer in the guitar. its under his right hand and in the body of the guitar

  • @quadruplewide I remember reading an interview with him where he said he just likes the feel of holding a guitar while singing. He plays on the records, but not live. Usually there aren't even any strings on his guitar.

  • why does the singer need a guitar if he's not playing anything on it?

  • @theBalls0926 Don't question Wayne.

  • I didn't know Shaggy was the drummer for the Flaming Lips!

  • What..... The..... Fuck..... Am I watching?

  • Ill bet half the audience had no idea what these guys were about/....

  • :( at the failed acoustic guitar-playback at 0:23

  • I love how Wayne wields his guitar like a weapon of positivity!

  • Anthem of the century. That's what all the good music should sound like

  • Wayne doesnt have strings on his guitar but he has a theremin type contraption made by Alesis in the bridge. It produces a sort o "wack a wack a" sound like a filter. Steven talks about it in a new interview with Pandora

  • shit

    hahaha

    maybe??? u tell me.

but is anyone a good singer live?

    apart from maynard ???

  • @diplodopus yea, a bunch of bands have amazing singers live! queen, the who, the dear hunter, etc... Wayne is definitely not a great singer, but it really does not take away from the music. Thats what the lips are all about, create some crazy music and have fun expressing whats on your heart, and I respect them for that :D

  • Powerade ;)

  • he actually looks like dustan hoffman.

  • Comparito Moncho!

  • he doesnt play guitar, look at his fingers its no chord

  • @gitaard He's doing it for a rhythmic "chunk" noise. You can hear it if you listen closely

  • @freekwit2es Also when singers play guitar like he does singing without doing something while singing is very weird. That's why if he doesn't have a guitar he's doing something

  • @gitaard yes he is there isnt an acustic chord in the song just strumming smart one

  • this sounds pretty awesome live

  • mi amor juan gave me this song to listen to ...

  • talk box action

  • this is shit fuckin

  • I just noticed that Wayne's left hand never changes position. I don't think his guitar is plugged in.

  • @GoodApolloImSteve haha you're right he's definitely not playing anything

  • @GoodApolloImSteve First off, I dig your youtube name... very much. Secondly, yeah, he rarely actually plays the guitar and hasn't done so with any frequency in years, although he used to and definitely isn't horrible on it. I think he likes to look like he's doing something, instead of standing like a statue in front of the mic.

  • @GoodApolloImSteve ... why would he plug it in ... it has no strings ...haha ... LOVE wayne coyne

  • @sweetfly66 wrong he guitar actually has strings :P

  • @DJMetalman911

Are you kidding me? I was at that BluesFest concert, and that was one of the best concerts I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot. Not to mention their stage show...Wow! Absolutely amazing! It's been a long time since I've seen a light show like that. And Wayne's energy level was CRAZY!! I wish I knew before now how FANTASTIC their live shows were, I would have quit my job and followed them around. Well, maybe not, but I'll DEFINITELY see them again!!! LOVE THE LIPS!

  • don't get me wrong, i love wayne and i think he's very talented, but i just hate when musicians fake it on stage ...

  • i saw this band live in austin(grovy town)and it was amazeing this was the best song they played

  • the energy is so amazing!!!!

why arent other bands this energetic?

  • firstly i think they have great performances. they have one of the best image of all bands i have ever seen

  • what brand of drums does kliph have? ludwig?

  • the flaming our one in a handful of grps so ahead of their/our time it's not even funny!! who said Oklahoma sucked? :D

  • hey where is the official video?!?!?

    I search it >.<!!!

    can anybody help me?!

  • Ha ha! 0.00-0.03 "Rosa Mannen" means Pink Man in norwegian... Random:P Interesting song, though:)

  • yesyesyes!

  • wheres the flanger in the chorus coming from? steven, michael, or pre recorded?

  • @yutuubfreak it'll be coming from steven - the frequencies it's sweeping through are too high for bass :P

  • @yutuubfreak yeah i was just wondering cause it was panned to the oposite side of steven. do u know what type of flange it is? is it just his multi effects?

  • @yutuubfreak I think it's both bass and electric guitar have chorus pedals going during the chorus

  • He does not play a single chord on that guitar haha.

  • @EyeJustSkateboard yeah what's going on with that ?

  • the lips kick arse!!

  • what movie was this on?

  • @Hammersmashed68 its a tv show. Late Night with David Letterman

  • MUY BIEN

  • I've always loved the beatles reference. "If you could take all the love without giving any back would you do it?"

  • @thepatient08 Wayne always said Lennon was an inspiration :)

  • (L)

  • This song is so great, gives you a whole day power!!!!!!!

  • This song is so capitalist but I love it :)

  • @seanoc123

I don't think the song is exactly captialist, its more synical. It's like saying "look, we all want to change the world, be the guy that stops world hunger, solve the economic crisis, or premote world, but that fact of the matter is, in order to do that, you have to have the power, and if you had all that power, what would you do?"

  • Does anyone else notice that not only is the acoustic guitar pre-recorder but Wayne is just strumming open strings the whole time! Hilarious!

  • @ESpeigel It;'s a pedal chord he's playing. That's why he's not moving up on the fretboard

  • @Foundation111 what do you have against vowels? if you're gonna swear, use the whole word please.

  • @torsoboy86 sk mi kok

  • cool......aheh heh heh heh heh...cool...

  • @Foundation111 Well then it fits you.

  • Wayne Coyne is a Legend!

  • i found this via Impossible quiz by slapp-me-do XD

  • this song is SO absurdly good in concert.

this presentation on Letterman doesn't even compare.

  • Fuck Flaming Lips Haters!!! If you hate the song why watch the video then comment on it? Fucking retard

  • @Foundation111 What the fuck are you watching it for then? Idiot!

  • I am slowly accumulating all of the Flaming Lips c.d.'s and i can not find one i dislike!!! This Music is amazing!!!

  • @fuckshitfuckshitf I just think you cant handle true creative music.

  • @fuckshitfuckshitf You know, it's a real shame when people can't see true artistic genius when it's right before them.

Have you ever bothered to really listen to their music? Have you ever really listened to this song? If you were in control, would you be the holier than thou fuck? (language) or would you care about those "under your control"?

This song is deep, and it gives the listener the chance to evaluate themselves in a way they might not have before. I'd like to think Id be caring

  • @fatherofmy5 im not to fond of there newest cd its just not that great in my book but some of there other cds are just epic

  • @highonfire3653 Are you talking about "embryonic"? I noticed a lot of people had mixed feelings on it, I enjoyed the entire album, especially "convinced of the hex" and "silver trembling hands"

  • @fatherofmy5 i dug silver trembling hands but i didnt really like any of the other songs on the album

  • awe shit these lyrics are fantastic!

with all my power I'LL GO RENEGADE against the society!

  • Yes!!! the Flaming Lips did remake some of the Whos songs in the past.

  • amazing!!!!!

  • the skeleton suit thing probably started from the who.

  • yup it was Entwistle's

  • With all my powers I quit my job. Go ahead Wayne.

  • hey.... im a kid of the 90's...we were so cool! fl--originality at its finest! i find wayne very strangely attractive.....hmmm

    '

  • I definitely think that they are a better studio band.. but if you haven't listened to the one off the album yet.. try it.

  • @streetsurfolife, have you ever seen one of their real shows? the flaming lips are THE band to see live.

  • if you dont like it dont comment,,duh,,why you watching it?

  • and what music would you consider not to be crap then?

  • why would you look it up then?

  • I gotta say, no offence to them, but i like this live version better than the record version.

  • I was i had that kind of technology for my instruments

  • The skeleton costume is a ode to John Entwissle from the who he wore it in like the 1970'2 to get more camera time haha

  • John entwistle wore it at the Isle of Wight. But a lot of other people wear it too. Just shows you how cool John Entwistle is.

  • yeah. i saw flea wear one too when the red hot chili peppers came to cleveland on halloween.

  • Flea wore one as well at slane castle

  • @PageandPlant4Life I think that's why they had the Flaming Lips at the Who Rock Honors show.

  • Who gives a fuck who wore it first...each musician made it rock in their own way...

  • agreed!

  • umm flea did it in 2003 this says 2006

  • look: flea wan't the first person to done the skeleton costume so...

wayne was the original guitarist and if you listen to 'she don't use jelly'(from the album) it's him playing he is just keeping rhythm here with an open tuning.

this show is uncharacteristic i've seen them several times in several states and he generally has a good voice.

if you go to one of their real shows you will be amazed.

they are an amazing band who just try to be an inspiration to humanity so get off their back.

  • Love the skeleton costume, and that red guitar. good stuff I tell you

  • That skeleton outfit is of John Entwistle fame - fantastic bass player of The Who. He wore it at the VH1 WHO Rock Honors thing

  • Great message in this song. It's true as well.

  • I like the framing lips cuz they like furries. i like costumes. and they like animal costumes at their shows. that means they are furry advocates. PLAY THE VASELINE SONG!

  • these guys are like a musical revolution :)

    there amazing :)

  • If Wayne looks like Robert Downey Jr, then the bass player looks like young Bruce Willis and the other guitarist looks a little bit like Jonny Depp. I don't which celebrity their drummer does resemble. ;)

  • maybe crispin glover? Robert downey jr, bruce willis, johnny depp, crispin glover?

  • he does look like robert downey jr, in the first thirty seconds

and yes I would blow up the world with a flick of a switch

  • Wayne kinda looks like robert downey jr.!

  • He DOES look like Robert Downey Jr. If you squint really hard, hanging upside down, from a galloping horse, in thick fog.....

  • @CosmoKramer10

Thank god I'm not the only one whose eyes get allergies when doing my handstands on Velouria, my pure bred stallion, through the peat bogs of Ireland, for a second, I woulda thought you were mocking me. :D

  • what could i say about this song?? Yeah!!

  • YEAH

  • good song

  • seriously what's the point of the acoustic guitar

  • man he doesnt even play his guitar.... just open strums it... just a friggin prop!

  • why are guys like the only people who watch this on statistics and data.. im a girl! am i the only one?

  • i hate how people say the flips don't have any musical talent

    1. i think wayne has an awesome voice

    2. Steven is amazing with anything musical

    3. Kliph is an AMAZING drummer

    4. Michael is just born to play bass for the flaming lips

    5. they put on the best live show also

  • You my friend are so true. They put on the best shows ever. And they most certainly are a very talented group of guys.

  • they have musical talent. no one is denying that they can play their instruments. It's just that they write shitty songs

  • @flaminlipcovers Agreed I saw them when they toured for Transmissions and it still remains my favorite show of all time. The energy was awesome.

  • @flaminlipcovers Anybody who doesnt think Steve Drozd is a good musician needs to do some serious research lol.

  • si antes amaba esta cancion

  • look closely, the REALLY thin strings are there....though he may not actually be playing...fret fingering seems off...

THE FLIPS ARE STILL AWESOME GREAT FUN!!!!!!!

  • ummmmmmmm <=]

  • theres not even strings on waynes guitar! HAH

  • yes there is.

    Look closely

  • EnragedMusic but you noticed Alesis Air Synth [i guess] builded inside body of wayne's guitar.. it might control anything you want. but true not all parts are played live by flaming lips as many other bands that play multilayered songs live, but still it is good performance in my eyes :D

  • nobody rate this vid its at 420 lets keep it that way

  • mmm.. not sure really, perhaps you're right...

electric one: a long gaffer tape on the pickup oh

  • Kliph looks like he's 19 in this video

  • is wayne even playing guitar?
