After having my say on the rantings here; I just want to complement cythernia on this post. I can never get enough of these haunting melodies. It makes want to go for a walk in the fog at night and loose myself in thought. I makes me think about things that kind of lie in the sub conscious and let them surface. One of the most famous Gothic novels is "Frankenstein, a Modern Prometheus" by Mary Shelley. Mind you, the Twilight series does NOT count as Gothic writing and Gothic writing doesn't necessarily have to be dark and evil, but it's always highly suspenseful! Also, romantic doesn't mean "romance" per se

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Frankenstein and maybe Dracula. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde might qualify, but I won't hold my word to it. Book wise I suggest starting with Frankenstein simply because it's a classic and also because I found it quite entertaining and suspenseful!
