When it first came out my English was not that good, couldn't make out half of it. Still I liked it because of Geddy Lee and SCTV. Now some 20 years later, I can understand everything including all the Canadian. Kind of sucks and wonderful at the same time.
Merry Christmas Hosers! Save Canada from the Immigrant Invasion. Fight for the Real Canadians, the founding members who celebrate Christmas and drink beer. Fight for Hoser Nation!
@iksoinemod These guys are so great because they were so far ahead of the world in the area of trolling back in the 70's in such an advanced fashion that we are only now catching up to them.
I seem to remember hearing a version that went on a bit longer at the end, just going on in silence, one of them going "...Take... OFF. You... HOSER." Like he's talking to the listener because the record's over or something?
This song and 'Pac man fever' were both in the top 20 at the exact same time in March of 82. What kind oif drugs were people on? I'm just dyin to know.
@bnegs521 1982 was more than an interesting year in music. In some ways it was like almost the last year of true Top 40 radio. Just the fact that on Billboard Magazine's HOT 100's #1 position Joan Jett & The Blackhearts' I Love Rock 'n' Roll was replaced in that position by Vangelis' Theme from Chariots of Fire and then Vangelis was replaced in that position by Ebony & Ivory by Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder speaks volumes. What else was out that year: Soft Cell's Tainted Love, Juice
@sneezyize Newton's Love's Been A Little Bit Hard on Me, Paul Davis' '65 Love Affair, Bertie Higgins' Key Largo, The Waitresses' I Know What Boys Like & Theme from Square Pegs, Gap Band's You Dropped A Bomb on Me, Frank & Moon Unit Zappa's Valley Girl were all hits that year. So, Pac-man Fever and this weren't the only things making 1982 a rather memorable but odd year in music and yes, we probably all smoking something peculiar.
@sneezyize Um a lot of those other songs I still like to this day. But the two I mentioned area genre of music that will never hit again. A lot of the other songs you mentioned weren't so strange at all. Chariot's of Fire theme yes and F Zappa''s Valley Girls as well. The others I don't find weird at all. Si I agree with a small portion of what you wrote.
This song is actually a cover of a Kingston Trio song that didn't get much airtime during the Vietnam War. Basically this was the definitive anthem of U.S. draft dodgers. They'd sit around in tents listening to their pirate radio dreaming of "taking off". Kudos to Geddy Lee & the Hoseheads for making it popular again. Oh & if anyone believes what I wrote above, then I have 2 words for you....Take Off!!
No, that would be a retarded argument if I said that about a U.S. musician.
But.. I didn't....
Since you're the type who will still have something wrong with that argument, here's a better one;
Break it into a proportion. I guarantee you a higher percentage of the population of the U.S. owns Rush records than the same percent of your population.
