  • When it first came out my English was not that good, couldn't make out half of it. Still I liked it because of Geddy Lee and SCTV. Now some 20 years later, I can understand everything including all the Canadian. Kind of sucks and wonderful at the same time.

  • I think I remember hearing this on KMET in Los Angeles on the Dr. Demento Show. Memories!

  • Bob & Doug are great but Geddy Lee is a GOD

  • I didn't know who Geddy Lee was until I heard this...

  • What's so great about this?

  • @iksoinemod These guys are so great because they were so far ahead of the world in the area of trolling back in the 70's in such an advanced fashion that we are only now catching up to them.

  • @iksoinemod If you don't know what's great about this you aren't Canadian! Bob and Doug, Geddy Lee, Take Off ya Hoser!!!

  • Oh God!! I haven't heard this in almost 30 years!! Just what was Geddy Lee thinking when he hooked up with these guys?

  • the originals...wayne's world, bill and ted, etc. rip off somebody else!!!

  • Beauty way to go, eh? Take Off, eh?

  • I seem to remember hearing a version that went on a bit longer at the end, just going on in silence, one of them going "...Take... OFF. You... HOSER." Like he's talking to the listener because the record's over or something?

  • @benjaminrowley: If you say so, In my opinion, 11 dislikes = 11 b**b*gs who should just git ta ****. :-)

  • O' Canada! It's neither my home nor my native land -- but who could ask for better neighbors?

  • This should be the Canadian national anthem!

  • 11 hosers didn't like this song. Bob and Doug hit #16 in Billboard, 3-27-82. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week.

  • Happy Canaday Day, people! Take off, eh? :)

  • Geddy Lee, best bass player ever.

  • decent singing eh?

  • This song and 'Pac man fever' were both in the top 20 at the exact same time in March of 82. What kind oif drugs were people on? I'm just dyin to know.

  • @bnegs521 1982 was more than an interesting year in music. In some ways it was like almost the last year of true Top 40 radio. Just the fact that on Billboard Magazine's HOT 100's #1 position Joan Jett & The Blackhearts' I Love Rock 'n' Roll was replaced in that position by Vangelis' Theme from Chariots of Fire and then Vangelis was replaced in that position by Ebony & Ivory by Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder speaks volumes. What else was out that year: Soft Cell's Tainted Love, Juice

  • @sneezyize Newton's Love's Been A Little Bit Hard on Me, Paul Davis' '65 Love Affair, Bertie Higgins' Key Largo, The Waitresses' I Know What Boys Like & Theme from Square Pegs, Gap Band's You Dropped A Bomb on Me, Frank & Moon Unit Zappa's Valley Girl were all hits that year. So, Pac-man Fever and this weren't the only things making 1982 a rather memorable but odd year in music and yes, we probably all smoking something peculiar.

  • @sneezyize Um a lot of those other songs I still like to this day. But the two I mentioned area genre of music that will never hit again. A lot of the other songs you mentioned weren't so strange at all. Chariot's of Fire theme yes and F Zappa''s Valley Girls as well. The others I don't find weird at all. Si I agree with a small portion of what you wrote.

  • This song is actually a cover of a Kingston Trio song that didn't get much airtime during the Vietnam War. Basically this was the definitive anthem of U.S. draft dodgers. They'd sit around in tents listening to their pirate radio dreaming of "taking off". Kudos to Geddy Lee & the Hoseheads for making it popular again. Oh & if anyone believes what I wrote above, then I have 2 words for you....Take Off!!

  • @Thrashmetalworks Lmao, did your retarded ass just say "amernicans"?

Learn to spell and capitalize before calling the people that run the world "dumb".

By the way, Rush has sold more records in the U.S. than in Canada.

We recognize talent more than you do.

  • @4cellar2door0 What a retarded argument, the US has 10 times more people than Canada, obviously theyre going to sell more records there.

  • @TOSportsFan1990

No, that would be a retarded argument if I said that about a U.S. musician.

    But.. I didn't....

    Since you're the type who will still have something wrong with that argument, here's a better one;

Break it into a proportion. I guarantee you a higher percentage of the population of the U.S. owns Rush records than the same percent of your population.

    Better? :]

  • This record was my idea. Get out!

    You're such a hoser.

This is me on the drum solo. Oh, it is not! Take off!

It's like it was sung by angels. (lol)

    Great jam!!

  • We have people like that in america, only they're not doing it to be funny or ironic.

  • Good day...

  • Beauty 'eh.

  • @YetAnotherMovie89 The word is "pride". Just sayin'.

  • This makes me feel so proud to be Canadian, eh?

  • what actually is a hoser?

  • @hamsterondrugsno1 its a term used because the losing team used to have hose off the ice after the game

  • @MCRisLIFE ohh thanks! :)

  • Ummm...why wouldn't Geddy Lee do this....HE'S CANADIAN!

  • @Farzog24 if you get the full version of this song you find out why geddy did this song. because "10 bucks is 10 bucks". the full version is funnier you get geddy talking to bob & doug before & after the song.

  • i never realized it was Geddy Lee!!

  • we're a band now eh, well except him, im a band ,take off hoser your making me look bad your such a hose head

  • Comment removed

  • canadians ftw

  • @waltdisney1234567890 CANADIANS rock........

  • @Farzog24 yes. they do. eh.

  • Many Rush fans were horrified that vocalist Geddy Lee agreed to do this. However, it was all in the name of good fun.

  • Okay everyone like this is me on the drums.

  • Man, Geddy Lee sounded like such a dork. But I think that's what makes this song amazing.

  • this song is great

  • Oh my holy wow, the childhood memories!!!

  • the first time I heard this I was at a sleepover at my best friends....we both laughed so hard we woke the house up (this was early 1982)

  • can u out the rest on? please?!?!?!?!

  • This song is the unoficial anthem of Canada, should be the real one in my opinion.

    Take off ya hoser!

  • @HotspurForever I Agree

  • Beauty, eh?

  • I love this, I have not heard this for maybe 15 years

  • @nutballgazette I was born in Canada 38 years ago......and spent my entire life In the USA....yet, I have this song in my head CONSTANTLY!!!

  • Except for him, I'M a band!

  • Where can I find the album version of this where Bob & Doug introduce Geddy at the beginning?

  • @bucky468 ITUNES

  • @bucky468 The album version is on the Bob & Doug McKenzie album 'Great White North' - also where Geddy says 'take off, you hoser' at the end!

  • That Geddy Lee is a decent singer, eh?

  • @jake83777 beauty, eh?

  • @jake83777 understatement of the century XD

  • @jake83777 Okay, beauty, eh. I like that Geddy Lee too, eh.

  • @jake83777 YOU BET HE IS

  • It's a beauty way to go.

  • question: what exactly does take off mean? like, i understand the concept, but why do they say it? also, what EXACTLY is a hosehead?

  • @npsalm121 DickHead ... same as Dumb Ass ...

  • I remeber when it came out : ( lol

  • "Luke, I AM your father. Give in the the dark side, you knob!"

  • STRANGE BREW!!!!!!! FTW!!!!!!! :) you hoser's :)

  • Koo roo koo koo koo koo koo koooo Koo roo koo koo koo koo kooo!

  • hozer

  • did geddy lee just feature in this, or is it an actual rush song?

  • @bllpg9 It was on a novelty album called "The Great White North" by Bob and Doug McKenzie (Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis) Geddy Lee was a special guest singer for this track. I'd suggest you watch all the McKenzie brothers vids on here... just don't drink anything before you do, or ya might wet yerself... it's some funny stuff.

  • @bllpg9

Geddy went to school with Rick Moranis ("Bob"). So when Rick got famous on SCTV and subsequently did this album with Dave Thomas ("Doug"), he contacted Geddy to sing on it.

There's more to this song than is posted here. There's some conversation between the brothers & Geddy before the music starts, and at one point Geddy makes a joke about being glad to do this 'cuz "10 bucks is 10 bucks." *laugh* There's also some extra stuff from Geddy after the song ends. Funny stuff.

  • Bob & Doug, you hosers! Hit #7 rock, #16 pop in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in Canada? God bless!

  • I used to listen to this song on my dad's one hit wonder tape when I was like 5 xD brings back memories of falling asleep in the backseat while driving along the highway toward my great-grandma's house :)
