@wolfwinners Ha ha! I never saw it on Broadway myself, but did see it lots in LA but nothing close to that. How could you be young enough to want to see it 53 times yet also be able to afford to buy 53 tickets?
I sure wish there was a complete video of this documentary. I would love to see the entire thing. I felt sorry for the ones that just didn't have the talent that they were looking for. Mitch certainly looked the part and he had the talent too! I thought Joe Pecorino did a great job as John. Les is a great guitarist and is very accomplished today. I don't know anything about Justin. I would love to have more video of this or any other information on this particular event.Thank you.
Not sure where to start. Have been a fan for years of Beatlemania. . I met the owner of web site Beatlemaniaalmni com. A while back he put on his site, under Joey's page an interview he did with him. In the interview, Joey said the Documentry was made well after the fact to promote the new Broadway show. Some of the things in that doc were fake/made up for the special. He was using a fake name for that doc. I only shared this info. I will retract my coments if needed.
ha, now I know EXACTLY how some of these guys felt like. I just tried out for a Beatle show much like this and I completely flubbed the stuff I know like the back of my hand...extremely out of key and nervous a lil kitten.
I was reminded of this, especially since I happen to be getting texts from Jack Carone asking how I did...
another B'mania esque show done by PM Howard...a local show he's doing now. I was super nervous (more than I should have) and screwed up big time..oh well.
That happens. I've seen your name a lot both on here and on the RAIN forum - do you by any chance have any video of yourself performing? I'd be interested in seeing it and I bet a lot of other people would too!
I don't think there are any vids of me being a Beatle...at least none that I'm aware of. But, there are a small few floating on here of me in my original band called The Give..still hamming it up in character as Paul haha
Heard this was made for a TV special. "David Corbin" is Joey Curatolo. He was the 2nd or 3rd Paul in Beatlemania, now is Paul in Rain. Hard to believe he could not sing "Get Back" back then. Now he's one of the best Pauls.
I can't believe I didn't notice this comment until just now! I think there's no way in heck that David Corbin is Joey Curatolo unless he had plastic surgery between this documentary and the million times I saw him in person back in the early 80s.
@mjm4222 I am personal friends with Joey Curatolo. We met back when Rain played The Sunset Club in Sierra Madre and my band The Trip was basically the house band there. That is NOT Joey Curatolo. I will get a hold of him, send him this and he can tell you himself if you'd like.

Yeah, Mitch is one of the best for sure, it's his birthday today, actually (May 31st)
I have a copy of the entire show on VHS that a friend of mine gave--he knows that Mitch is my idol..haha! I just recently received another burned copy on dvd. Yeah, I have a bunch of old Beatlemania stuff laying around.
Thanks for posting this clip. I haven't seen this since it aired in November 1978, but I put a tape recorder up to the TV speaker that night and had an audio tape of it for years. I definitely remember this segement, with the less-likely auditionees. That short bit of "A Day In The Life" always cracked me up. :>
This is special was a sham, according to Joe Peccorino...It gives the impression that it's scenes of the auditions and rehearsals leading up to the grand opening of 'Beatlemania,' but in truth, this was all shot *after* the fact, well after 'Beatlemania' had already become a hit.
I remember everything 30yrs later. Was it longer? Its funny to see the 70's clothes on guys in their 20's.I'm sure the producers of BM filmed(or video'd)the show for their own purposes but it'll NEVER get out cuz BEATLES=LAWSUITS.Never saw Mitch but I've seen Joe Pecorino,Lenie C.,Al Sapienza,Glen Burtnick and Marshall Crenshaw do their prospective things.
