Love the idea. Type XXI could surely have changed things. I have a question about the music. Which songs were mixed to make this? It's not just, "Am I not merciful".
Can anyone tell me which song is that???The reason Bismark sunk is the same reason Titanic, did, the Germans were too confident, Bismark was indeed one of the most powerful battleships but it still was one ship,it should be escorted by other warships(which were under repairs...) ;P
@hausnummerleuchte Indeed Bismark was escorted by Prinz Eugen but they split up and Bismark was left alone, also a battleship like Bismark should also be escorted by destroyers and cruisers(Prinz Eugen) .I know that was difficult for Germany because Kriegsmarine had few warships but if Bismark was escorted efficiently then i don't think the british would succeed in sinking Bismark...
@Fotistou94 Destroyer and Cruiser screens won't matter when you're within enemy carrier striking distance. Bismarck needed Luftwaffe cover during its escape.
I don't know if people are quoting the same 'historical facts' here...
The Bismark's turrets didn't come off during a turn, they blew off as a result of air pressure whilst the ship was sinking, that is well documented an quite in-line with findings from other wrecks.
the HMS Dorsetshire is credited with firing the last four torpedoes at the Bismark and those torpedoes are given as the cause for the sinking.
if germany didnt attack russia and kept being neutral and didnt go to war with them, the US and the other allies would be in a bad position since most of germany's best troops were at the northern front not the west..they were fighting in all directions, east and south = russia...west and south = british and US forces..and still even then the germans made a stiff restistance as even the best allied generals agreed upon, as a wise man once said, never underestimate your enemy
Germany could not have outlasted the Allies, even if Hitler left Russia alone. (Aside from the fact that Russia probably would have helped the Allies anyway). Germany's economy was not in the position to withstand a long war. There were bad signs pointing to future hyper inflation and such before the war started in 1939. The war might have lasted 3-4 years longer, but the same outcome would have resulted.

we would have won anyways and you totally forgot we were fighting on 2 fronts with a europ first policy,we were more intested in saving the brits than fighting the japs knocking on our back door

ok 1st of all you are just a total BADASS for cussing, i bet that makes you feel real tough.
and second we owned the fuck out of every war but what makes me mad is yes the vietnam war was considered our defeat which is total CRAP only reasen we went in was because the french were getting FUCKED UP and yet they hate us today.
as for the cold war i believe america came out on top.
and in iraq i believe we have only lost about 5000 troops comparded to the many we have killed.
i have been reserching this ship for 30 years a very tough ship to sink, the scuttling claim is just that and can not be proved any more than the brit claim, the germans almost always claim that ships sunk in battle are scuttled take the battlecruiser lutzow at jutland the ship flooded slowly and was abandoned when the bow was submerged up to the gun turrets and the screws had left the water it was the torped and claimed scuttled, scuttling sinks a ship faster it still sinks.
I really don't get this debate over whether or not to give the Royal Navy credit for sinking the Bismark. Whether I've put a shell into you and caused you to sink or I caused you to scuttle your ship the result is the same I've sunk you! Therefore, the RN gets the credit for sinking the ship, end of story.
Nice to see someone reply politely to comments posted by other people. I don't deny that she was disabled. I actually admire those bomber pilots for that kind of courage. I do still deny that the British actually sank her though. I have been researching this ship for about the past five years. And everything that I have learned points to scuttling. I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather though. It seems unfair that those men on the Hood didn't have a chance to escape...
Bismarck WAS on convoy raid, YES, with typical german fairness, they had orders NOT to fight big and dangerous battleships, they had to destroy not challenging and unprotected merchant ship.
bismarck wasnt on a convoy raid at all, this was merely a first trip to see if she was capable if taking the fight to the british, she had direct orders to avoid any engagements, but when she was engaged in battle by hood and the prince of wales ljutens decided to fire back becuse he didnt want to stand idle and watch as the british fired while he didnt fire back, the hole engagement was a random one, if the bismarck didnt get spotted she would be sent back, and later sent out to harras convoys
Raeder's orders to Lütjens were that "the objective of the Bismarck is not to defeat enemies of equal strength, but to tie them down in a delaying action, while preserving her combat capacity as much as possible, so as to allow Prinz Eugen to get at the merchant ships in the convoy. The primary target in this operation is the enemy's merchant shipping; enemy warships will be engaged only when that objective makes it necessary and it can be done without excessive risk."
Yeah I'm an American. Now I don't know your standing on these issues is, but I think the Republicans have really F'd things up and totally ruined the image of this country.
You know what's really funny? Many asses think that the British sunk the Bismarck. News Flash people! They didn't! Bismarcks crew scuttled it. 2,876 shells were shot at Bismarck. Want to know how many penetrated the hull? 4. And the torpedoes were not able to penetrate the special bulkheads in place on the Bismarck. How great do you think the US and British Navies are now? You can kiss Bismark's impenetrable ass!
Of course. But I'm sticking to my opinion on this matter. Just because you have 25 years experience is not going to make me share the same opinion as you. Also, I didn't come back one year later to milk the issue even further. So, what does that say about you?
It says nothing, I saw your insulting comment when you posted it, and wanted to see if you had matured any. Lt Commander Moffat is a friend and neighbour of mine, and having visited him on his 90th Birthday 2 weeks ago it reminded me of this. If you dont know who John Moffatt is, he flew the swordfish which dropped the torpedo disabling Bismarks rudder. So when I read hypothetical conjecture of the sort you and others post on youtube,it makes me cringe.
Did I ever say, "John Moffatt never dropped the torpedo that disabled the Bismarck's rudder"? Where do you see that? If you had actually read ALL of my posts, you'd notice that I do not deny that the British disabled Bismarck. They deserve to take credit for that. She was a bear to disable. Both the British and the Germans have their own reasons for claiming the final sinking of Bismarck. I'm just one person who feels the way the former German crew members feel about it.
Was it not the HMS Dorsetshire who fired the final slavo of torpedoes that sank the Bismark?
No disrespect to your neighbour, the HMS Dorsetshire (if i recall the name right) would never been in such a position had it not been for his bravery an skill.
Bismark didn't sink from torpedoes, the crews opened the kingstone valves, that's a historical fact. That ship held up superbly well. Not only that, they also had internal communication working and they played a song on it as it was about to go down. This is first source account, from the german sailors who survived. So all this debate who sent the last torpedo is pointless. The truly last nail was the swordfish attack that jammed the rudder.
Uhm yeah it was scuttled because it was completely incapable of continuing the fight. It had no engine power, no more gun control, lost it's seaworthiness etc etc. It was defeated by the Royal Navy. Werther she was scuttled or sunk by the torpedoes does not matter, the Royal Navy still defeated her.
As for the bulkheads, they don't protect you from torpedo damage, they just keep the ship in one piece, the bulge armour protects against torpedoes and the Bismarck's was severely lacking.
But they didn't SINK her. That's the entire frikkin debate, or have you not been paying any attention? Even if they did defeat her, she still caused alot of trouble for them. Sinking the Hood, destroying dozens of convoys, etc. So if anyone wants to say that Bismarck had no significance and was a piece of junk, I suggest that they just keep their mouths shut.
She didn't sink a single convoy. She sunk the Hood granted, but she didn't last long to celebrate that victory. And her sister ship the Tirpitz didn't sink any convoys either.
Even if the Germans never attempted to scuttle her the Royal Navy would've succeeded in sinking her because she was defeated, it's pure and simple like that.
But they DIDN'T!!! When are you gonna get that through your fatass thick skull. The whole part of the argument for the last six decades was whether or not the Brits can take credit for the actual sinking. And the proof is there. They CAN'T. And another thing is that it took pounding from half-a-dozen ships to stop her. That speaks to the strength of Bismarck. And even torpedoes didn't sink her. You need to do more research my friend.
the brits can take credit,if she wasnt disabled by the brits(like she was) she may not have been sunk(not so quickly anyway).i do agree with you though that she was was one tough ship that cannot be denied.my grandad was killed serving on hood when she was struck but i still dont deny bismarc was one helluva ship.some people say hood was struck with luck(not true)it was a good shot,it was luck that it hit the munitions storage.bismarc wasnt hit with luck either, just luck it hit the rudder lol
You twit and quite what use is a floating bath tub with nothing in it except for some burning wreckage - no they didn't sink her but becuase of poor naval tactics the british were able to but more metal on target until there wasn't anything left to sink - by the time the germans scuttled here the british were sitting back drinking tea.
keep up with the nazi fanboy troll tactics tazz, you are good at that. the POW turned around and began chasing the bismarck very quickly after disengaging so they may have been able to fix the turret problem before getting killed AND the hit the bismarck took underwater in the bow limited it's speed (water pressure tears the hole open even more at higher speeds) so it may have not been able to run down the POW at that time, giving POW the needed time to fix itself before turning to fight.
Why is it that some people, like you, think that just because someone served Hitler that that gives you the right to de-humanize them. Many of the men on board Bismarck didn't give a rat's ass about Nazi views. All they were doing was serving their country. But then again, some idiots, like YOU, do them great injustice by thinking that just because they were in the German Army, that made them full blown Nazi's. If anyone needs to do fucking research, it's you, dick.
or the bismarck could have been ended, but probably both would have been sunk or rendered useless for at least a year in shipyard after the fight. the point is that even though the POW was in a bad spot, it was due to problems with the 4 gun turrets (they got better but were always problematic) which at that point were untested. the bismarck didnt cause major damage to it which is why it resumed chasing bismarck after their turrets were quickly fixed. you need to read more tazz!
2) does anyone know of a game where you could command battleships or aircraft carriers? i love SH3, but i wish i could find a good game like it (same physics) where you could take control of a ship!
the yamato was sunk by a lot of planes, if one of iowa class try to fight with that ship, that was a suicide, the yamato was the most powerfull ship in the entire history of the naval war.
well returning to the topic, the bismark was one of the most powerfull ships of germarny, without breaking the treatment of versalles.
they have to build a small battleship with a limit of weight, you cant compare a king george class or a iowa class with a bismarck class who has a much o limitatios
lol u really dont knowthe story, the bismark had 50000 tons instead of the 35 announced :D go read then speak, the bismarck would have eat the iowa or th king georg as breakfast dinner, and thaat's not my oppinion, that's what all naval historian say
care to back that up shitbird? name a single naval historian who has said some shit like that. in fact you will find that though it MAY have been the best ship in the atlantic for a short while, the newer ships like iowa outclassed the bismarck badly. hell, just look at the published numbers for the fucking ships, its easy to find and all of it shows the bismarck to be inferior in nearly every way.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
thats what i though homo, you can run your mouth but you dont know enough about the subject to back up your assertions with any FACTS, STATS, or anything else that is meaningful. if only your whore mom sucked cock more often you would have just been another swallowed jizz load.
Those "what if..." -stories won´t be helpful for tose wifes of the german and british seamen who lost their lives on H.M.S. HOOD and the chanceless scuttled BISMARCK! Much more would have survived if the british Battleships only stood a little longer after they sunk the BISMARCK. But their commanders were afraid of subs and so they decided to leave the surviving germans alone.
've seen a vid made in germany where old crewmembers of bismark and hood are drinkig tea together and talking about those days.. it's amazin how life goes.. then some of them gone wth the expedition team to the sunk point of the bismark... omg i wont tell u more, watch it, i think it's caled expedition to te bismark, aired on discovery channel
you know i saw here and she was selling shade at the beach for 5 dollos an acre when i asked her why so cheap she was like well theres more then enough
"when britian when ape shit" its went ape shit hmm you have your head stuck soo far up your ass you cant even see what your typing your a shit head and i hope you die a horrible death cuz i hate you the bismarck is the best ship evey so screw you bitch and it took more then an hour too sink it pea shooters my ass even your fat ass mom could fit it its barrles
what are you like 6 or something? go read a fucking book and you will find out that the bismarck was far from the most powerful, well designed, or best armored battleship. that heap would have been owned by any japanese or american battleship built from 1941 on.
lol u should read books, the bismark was the best ship in hr class, it was luck that the torpedo hitted the rudder blocking it, if it hitted the side it ouldnt doo shit, and ther was like 10 ships firing 1 hour on the bismark b4 HER OWN CREW SUNK IT TO PREVENT THE BRITTAINS CAPTURE IT. lmfao
keep laughing dipshit. just to compare with the iowa (let alone yamato): iowa had: 60% more powerful broadside, same belt thickness, thicker deck, barbettes, turret armor, 3 knots faster, 50% greater steaming range, better damage control, two independent rudders, longer range guns, much better fire control and gun range, bigger displacement, 8 times better AA defense, and protected DC and FC centers.
lol yamato was after the bismarck, an yamato had the nickname "Hotel Yamato" cuz they didnt send it to defend japanese borders, they just leaved it alone and send it like kamikaze against 1500 ships.. lmfao
actually the US class A armor was a PROBLEM. other navies used VH, CA, or krupp CA and all of those were superior to US class A armor by varying margins. the us belts could still stop shells but more steel was needed for the same impact which is inefficient (hence backing and decapping sts plates used, ect) the US class B armor was the best or equal to the best homogenious armor and the US STS plates were better than any rival specialty steel but the face hardened class A was not that great.
You prove that a little info is a dangerous thing. The Bismark was a very tough ship, more powerful than anything the Bitish had and was by far the most powerful warship in the Atlantic until 1943, Yamato was launched 18 months after Bismark and is strategically irrelevant to your arguement.
OK, if you read a book you will find out that Bismarck was the most powerful in service at the time. Nothing comissioned at the time was stronger. A lot of ships were in construction but not active. As for US ships, if you read more books, you'll see that when the South Dakota and No Carolina class were trying to lure Tirpitz out, they were NEVER allowed to do so without at least one King George class alongside.
1-i know it was the best at the time but the bismarck crowd think it was the best ever and they are wrong
2-SD and NC arent iowa and the political situation was such that britain HAD TO BE PART OF THE SINKING if a gunfight started between those battleships, not to mention that the allies werent trying to have a one on one fight, they wanted to outnumber it so the job is easier.
not the job where easier, even the king georg didnt last a chance against bismarck it was abe to take oput any ship of the allied fleet, the gangbang was the only way to take it out and that's not what i say, that's what the books and the facts say, when hood attacked bismarck they where 2v2, bismarck took out hood and the other too if they dont turn and run ;)
first of all the south dakota would beat the bismarck's fucking ass. the ONLY thing the bismarck had on it was 2 knots faster speed. as far as that goes the south dakota and iowa would have beat down all of the british battleships of ww2 also (vanguard doesnt count). the bismarck sank a 21 year old battlecruiser and the POW disengaged due to mechanical problems.
yeah dipshit, mechanical problems. look it up. the guns were new and had some teething problems which is why civilain contractors were still on board trying to fix it when the ship was underway. the ship took no serious damage from the 7 hits it took but all of the turrets except one jammed so it retired, fixed the problem, and was back chasing the bismarck within a couple of hours.
oh never mind, with an answer like that it proves you dont know what in the fuck you are talking about. keep on making up shit you little punk motherfucker, maybe one day you can convince yourself that germany, italy, and japan won the fucking war.
the bismarck was the most powerfull ships in all sence.. not talking about firepower or other bullshit, it's useless u have a big gun, bismarck was strong, fast, maneuvrable all in 1 packet, take the yamato it was stronger but had 5 or 6 knots less speed that means with the bismarck u can easy go out of it's fire range.. use ur brains some times
the IOWA was a far better example of being "all around most powerful" it was faster, had 50% more steaming range, superior armor, 5 times better AA defense, could run with carriers, had MUCH more powerful guns, the best fire control on any ship, and beat the bismarck in virtually every category hands down.
look up the numbers nazi boy, your ship left much to be desired. typical nazi fanboy fuck, running around thinking that everything the nazis had was better than what everyone else had. too bad you dont have facts on your side faggot.
lol 1st i'm not a nazi, 2nd it's proofed that many tech allied discovered when 3rd reich ended was at least 10 years better then rest of world 3rd nazi-boy is maybe ur daddy ;)
at the same time dipshit, many allied tech was better than nazi tech. allies built the best propeller fighters, surface warships, bombers, radar, sonar, and a lot of other shit not to mention that the allies came up with the invention that MATTERED, the atom bomb.
radar sonar where german, messerschmidts pwnd all, bombers maybe i dunno about and wont argue, jet engine was german, ur F-117 stealth bomber looks soooo similar to the german experimental 1wing jet fighter :D lol u still wont get it, all US have is european and most of it is german if u like it or not :) it's like talking to a horse with eyeflaps :D open ur mind a lil bit
actauly radar was a british invention, brits and americans designed jet engines before germans did but the governments didnt pursue production, mustangs, spitfires, hellcats, and corsairs had much better combat records than messershmits, and you are still a pathetic, know nothing, nazi fanboy fuckhead faggot
bismark, pa'h nothing but a giant heap of steel with pea shooters, it only stayed afloat for 215 hours and took roughly 1 hour to sink when britian when ape shit on it and sunk it with everything in the adlantic.
this was only one ship against a bunch of destroyers, several cruisers and some of the biggest batleships in the royal navy. And without "FORCE H" the Bismarck surely would have reached the french harbour and after repairs HE would have kicked some british naval asses!
Huzzah for hypotheticals. I can do that too. If it wasn't for the Washington Naval Treaty the Royal Navy would have had four N3 battleships with 9 18" guns and 15" of belt armour. The Bismarck wouldn't last 30 minutes against that.
Yeah, if you have to pound on a ship for an hour and a half with 6 some odd ships and then finally decide to fire torpedoes finally, and it still doesn't sink, that's on hell of a tough ship. And yes it was approximately an hour and a half. Go look it up if you want to.
Cool video. I have Silent hunter II and this is a great game, so Ithink that Silent Hunter III and IV should be really better. And I think that the Bismark Should have cover from all the submarines in the area, but he hadn't and sink.
Bismarck was out of range for protection and German submarines were used primarily for sinking merchantmen nevermind they couldn't keep pace with a battleship.
thing is whenever theres a big ship in a nation the enemy will try watever happens to sink this bigger ship! Just like Yamato,Bismarck and HM3 ..they all sunked!!!!
you are absolutely right. but think of the circumstances. Bismarck was first hit by a torpedo, launched from a ver old biplane. Yamato was destroyed by planes, launched from US Carriers. The only ships who were not hit in Pearl Harbour... Got it?
Yeah, I'm a real racist against Mexicans. That's why my wife is Mexican and my three kids are half Mexican. By the way, my Mexican wife would like to know why you think saying the word Mexican is racist.
The captain of the Bismarck, Lindemann had a grandson. He lived in Hollywood California. We went to Le Conte Junior High. We were in the same gym class in 1973.
His Family was from East Germany and RICH. Living in America looked like a better deal than than living in a bombed out country under Communist Rule. And where would YOU move to? North Dakota? Arkansas?
And I have news for you. Adolph Hitler had a nephew who lived in the states. Before the war, he went on speaking tours aboout his uncle. Germans are the largest ethnic group in America with 43 million people with German last names. There are most people with German last names in America than with English or Irish last names.
The gays live in West Hollywood, moron. Don't pretend like you have ever been to Los Angeles. The main group of people who went to Le Conte Junior High were Mexicans.
i liked the video not too accurate but its good... i have been interested in the bismark since i was 3 when i saw it on history channel so i like the vid...but make it to fit the story
Great match of music and action. The German battleship Bismark had sunk the British battleship HMS Hood in one salvo, The Bismarck (with sister-ship Tirpitz)had been built to "slug it out" with the largest British warships and also to help sink supply ships to Great Britan. It was claimed the Bismark was even faster than the ocean liner Queen Mary... a lucky hit to the Bismark's rudder allowed her to steam only in a large circle, allowing the British to catch and sink her.
it topok a few savlos, but the bismark had a lucky hit 2 in the shell magazine under the front turret of the hood which blew it out of the water, quit literaly
the lucky hit would come soon anyway, since the armor was relatively weak... different story, when Brits made shower of shells over Bismark - no big problem.
Something on the order of 2800 individual shell hits, and only four penetrated her hull, none below the waterline. 39 Torpedoes couldn't get through her armor. The crew scuttled her. Had she not taken a lucky torpedo hit in the rudder, the Brits would have had a REALLY bad time.
pretty good graphics lol, much beter then silent hunter II, anyways nice presentation however the XXI elektroboot is out of its historic context lol ;)
they teamed up on her, whinsten churchill or however u spell it shall go to hell and let the bismark finish off the 8 ships it took to sink it. booo! whinsten churchill!
It may be true that crew members set demolition charges in the Bismark after the battle was lost to scuttle her. Regardless how she actually sank the fact is that the British caught her and destroyed any hope of her ever sinking any merchantmen.
Wrong - the Bismark was sunk by a combination of torpedo's from the Ark Royal fire power from th Britsh Home Fleet KGV i think and was eventually finished of with torpedo's from the cruiser Devonshire. You are getting confused with the Armoured Cruiser Graf Spee which scuttled of Montivedeo
No. I'm not getting confused. There was a documentary on several years ago about the Bismarck. One of the areas they inspected on the ship was the torpedo bulkhead. All along the hull, there was not a single penetration. It's as simple as this, if you're not flooding the armored core, you are not sinking the sink the ship. Therefore, British torpedos did not sink her.
-Duh! :-/ Bismark was UPSIDE DOWN when she was torpedoed and sunk. Forget the torpedo bulge. The torpedo damage is above the bulge. It's as simple as that.
Maybe the scuttling attempt did cause Bismark to turn belly up but it's irrelevant. She was already a wreck.
Believing it's important what let in most water says only sad things about those who do.
She had been listing since the beginning of the fight. And she gradually listed so far that she reached the point of no return. But that was not caused by torpedo impacts or holes. It's a simple matter of the ships weight. It has been proven time and time again that there was no torpedo hole anywhere on the ship. And the British claim to have sunk her with torpedos. If anything, disabling her is the only thing they can take credit for. And it took an hour and a half of shooting to do that.
So until anyone presents physical evidence to me that proves the British sank the ship, I will say that the Germans scuttled her. Fair and square. Something tells me that people were so terrified of this ship that they have to hide behind a lie saying that they sunk it. And the Hood is another reason that the British want to take credit and I don't blame them for that. But there is still no physical proof that says they can take credit.
if the royal navy sunk her then the royal navy sunk her, if the ship was scuttled then they did it because otherwise the RN would have sunk her because they had turned her into a wreck, its not like they scuttled her in advance of the battle is it?,,, makes no difference either way though
great video

I don't know if people are quoting the same 'historical facts' here...
The Bismark's turrets didn't come off during a turn, they blew off as a result of air pressure whilst the ship was sinking, that is well documented an quite in-line with findings from other wrecks.
the HMS Dorsetshire is credited with firing the last four torpedoes at the Bismark and those torpedoes are given as the cause for the sinking.
The Bismark was sunk as a result of enemy fire.

i have been reserching this ship for 30 years a very tough ship to sink, the scuttling claim is just that and can not be proved any more than the brit claim, the germans almost always claim that ships sunk in battle are scuttled take the battlecruiser lutzow at jutland the ship flooded slowly and was abandoned when the bow was submerged up to the gun turrets and the screws had left the water it was the torped and claimed scuttled, scuttling sinks a ship faster it still sinks.
elswick1542 3 years ago
I really don't get this debate over whether or not to give the Royal Navy credit for sinking the Bismark. Whether I've put a shell into you and caused you to sink or I caused you to scuttle your ship the result is the same I've sunk you! Therefore, the RN gets the credit for sinking the ship, end of story.
logancody07 3 years ago 2
completly agree

But they were fighting a brutal war just like the Germans were.
Wraithldr13 3 years ago
Nice to see someone reply politely to comments posted by other people. I don't deny that she was disabled. I actually admire those bomber pilots for that kind of courage. I do still deny that the British actually sank her though. I have been researching this ship for about the past five years. And everything that I have learned points to scuttling. I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather though. It seems unfair that those men on the Hood didn't have a chance to escape...

bismarc wos send to destroy any british ship convoys not for convoy raid
PMike34561169 3 years ago
you are all wrong the bismarck was sent on a mission to find and destroy any british ship convoys
CT1608 3 years ago
Bismarck WAS on convoy raid, YES, with typical german fairness, they had orders NOT to fight big and dangerous battleships, they had to destroy not challenging and unprotected merchant ship.
vaxiawval 3 years ago
bismarck wasnt on a convoy raid at all, this was merely a first trip to see if she was capable if taking the fight to the british, she had direct orders to avoid any engagements, but when she was engaged in battle by hood and the prince of wales ljutens decided to fire back becuse he didnt want to stand idle and watch as the british fired while he didnt fire back, the hole engagement was a random one, if the bismarck didnt get spotted she would be sent back, and later sent out to harras convoys
gromsky21 3 years ago
Raeder's orders to Lütjens were that "the objective of the Bismarck is not to defeat enemies of equal strength, but to tie them down in a delaying action, while preserving her combat capacity as much as possible, so as to allow Prinz Eugen to get at the merchant ships in the convoy. The primary target in this operation is the enemy's merchant shipping; enemy warships will be engaged only when that objective makes it necessary and it can be done without excessive risk."

Pitcairn2 2 years ago
Of course. But I'm sticking to my opinion on this matter. Just because you have 25 years experience is not going to make me share the same opinion as you. Also, I didn't come back one year later to milk the issue even further. So, what does that say about you?
Wraithldr13 2 years ago
It says nothing, I saw your insulting comment when you posted it, and wanted to see if you had matured any. Lt Commander Moffat is a friend and neighbour of mine, and having visited him on his 90th Birthday 2 weeks ago it reminded me of this. If you dont know who John Moffatt is, he flew the swordfish which dropped the torpedo disabling Bismarks rudder. So when I read hypothetical conjecture of the sort you and others post on youtube,it makes me cringe.
Pitcairn2 2 years ago
Did I ever say, "John Moffatt never dropped the torpedo that disabled the Bismarck's rudder"? Where do you see that? If you had actually read ALL of my posts, you'd notice that I do not deny that the British disabled Bismarck. They deserve to take credit for that. She was a bear to disable. Both the British and the Germans have their own reasons for claiming the final sinking of Bismarck. I'm just one person who feels the way the former German crew members feel about it.
Wraithldr13 2 years ago
Was it not the HMS Dorsetshire who fired the final slavo of torpedoes that sank the Bismark?
No disrespect to your neighbour, the HMS Dorsetshire (if i recall the name right) would never been in such a position had it not been for his bravery an skill.
Regards,
Crimson
WarriorCrimson 2 years ago
Bismark didn't sink from torpedoes, the crews opened the kingstone valves, that's a historical fact. That ship held up superbly well. Not only that, they also had internal communication working and they played a song on it as it was about to go down. This is first source account, from the german sailors who survived. So all this debate who sent the last torpedo is pointless. The truly last nail was the swordfish attack that jammed the rudder.
TedTempest 2 years ago 6
Uhm yeah it was scuttled because it was completely incapable of continuing the fight. It had no engine power, no more gun control, lost it's seaworthiness etc etc. It was defeated by the Royal Navy. Werther she was scuttled or sunk by the torpedoes does not matter, the Royal Navy still defeated her.
As for the bulkheads, they don't protect you from torpedo damage, they just keep the ship in one piece, the bulge armour protects against torpedoes and the Bismarck's was severely lacking.
earwenNL 3 years ago
But they didn't SINK her. That's the entire frikkin debate, or have you not been paying any attention? Even if they did defeat her, she still caused alot of trouble for them. Sinking the Hood, destroying dozens of convoys, etc. So if anyone wants to say that Bismarck had no significance and was a piece of junk, I suggest that they just keep their mouths shut.
Wraithldr13 3 years ago
She didn't sink a single convoy. She sunk the Hood granted, but she didn't last long to celebrate that victory. And her sister ship the Tirpitz didn't sink any convoys either.
Even if the Germans never attempted to scuttle her the Royal Navy would've succeeded in sinking her because she was defeated, it's pure and simple like that.
earwenNL 3 years ago
But they DIDN'T!!! When are you gonna get that through your fatass thick skull. The whole part of the argument for the last six decades was whether or not the Brits can take credit for the actual sinking. And the proof is there. They CAN'T. And another thing is that it took pounding from half-a-dozen ships to stop her. That speaks to the strength of Bismarck. And even torpedoes didn't sink her. You need to do more research my friend.
Wraithldr13 3 years ago
the brits can take credit,if she wasnt disabled by the brits(like she was) she may not have been sunk(not so quickly anyway).i do agree with you though that she was was one tough ship that cannot be denied.my grandad was killed serving on hood when she was struck but i still dont deny bismarc was one helluva ship.some people say hood was struck with luck(not true)it was a good shot,it was luck that it hit the munitions storage.bismarc wasnt hit with luck either, just luck it hit the rudder lol

Hey Tazz,
How proud are you about the slayghter of 3 million jews?
cobrakick 3 years ago
keep up with the nazi fanboy troll tactics tazz, you are good at that. the POW turned around and began chasing the bismarck very quickly after disengaging so they may have been able to fix the turret problem before getting killed AND the hit the bismarck took underwater in the bow limited it's speed (water pressure tears the hole open even more at higher speeds) so it may have not been able to run down the POW at that time, giving POW the needed time to fix itself before turning to fight.
22steve5150 3 years ago
Why is it that some people, like you, think that just because someone served Hitler that that gives you the right to de-humanize them. Many of the men on board Bismarck didn't give a rat's ass about Nazi views. All they were doing was serving their country. But then again, some idiots, like YOU, do them great injustice by thinking that just because they were in the German Army, that made them full blown Nazi's. If anyone needs to do fucking research, it's you, dick.

"Keep quiet your poor little lamb"

Wraithldr13 3 years ago
or the bismarck could have been ended, but probably both would have been sunk or rendered useless for at least a year in shipyard after the fight. the point is that even though the POW was in a bad spot, it was due to problems with the 4 gun turrets (they got better but were always problematic) which at that point were untested. the bismarck didnt cause major damage to it which is why it resumed chasing bismarck after their turrets were quickly fixed. you need to read more tazz!

the yamato was sunk by a lot of planes, if one of iowa class try to fight with that ship, that was a suicide, the yamato was the most powerfull ship in the entire history of the naval war.
well returning to the topic, the bismark was one of the most powerfull ships of germarny, without breaking the treatment of versalles.
they have to build a small battleship with a limit of weight, you cant compare a king george class or a iowa class with a bismarck class who has a much o limitatios
ZhaoDrek 4 years ago
lol u really dont knowthe story, the bismark had 50000 tons instead of the 35 announced :D go read then speak, the bismarck would have eat the iowa or th king georg as breakfast dinner, and thaat's not my oppinion, that's what all naval historian say
cardolino82 4 years ago
care to back that up shitbird? name a single naval historian who has said some shit like that. in fact you will find that though it MAY have been the best ship in the atlantic for a short while, the newer ships like iowa outclassed the bismarck badly. hell, just look at the published numbers for the fucking ships, its easy to find and all of it shows the bismarck to be inferior in nearly every way.

Those "what if..." -stories won´t be helpful for tose wifes of the german and british seamen who lost their lives on H.M.S. HOOD and the chanceless scuttled BISMARCK! Much more would have survived if the british Battleships only stood a little longer after they sunk the BISMARCK. what are you like 6 or something? go read a fucking book and you will find out that the bismarck was far from the most powerful, well designed, or best armored battleship. that heap would have been owned by any japanese or american battleship built from 1941 on.
22steve5150 4 years ago
lol u should read books, the bismark was the best ship in hr class, it was luck that the torpedo hitted the rudder blocking it, if it hitted the side it ouldnt doo shit, and ther was like 10 ships firing 1 hour on the bismark b4 HER OWN CREW SUNK IT TO PREVENT THE BRITTAINS CAPTURE IT. lmfao
cardolino82 4 years ago
keep laughing dipshit. just to compare with the iowa (let alone yamato): iowa had: 60% more powerful broadside, same belt thickness, thicker deck, barbettes, turret armor, 3 knots faster, 50% greater steaming range, better damage control, two independent rudders, longer range guns, much better fire control and gun range, bigger displacement, 8 times better AA defense, and protected DC and FC centers.
22steve5150 4 years ago
lol yamato was after the bismarck, an yamato had the nickname "Hotel Yamato" cuz they didnt send it to defend japanese borders, they just leaved it alone and send it like kamikaze against 1500 ships.. lmfao
cardolino82 4 years ago
you forgot to say that the U.S. BB were the only ones that had all class A armour. All other navys had class B or less.
OKIEMARK 4 years ago
actually the US class A armor was a PROBLEM. other navies used VH, CA, or krupp CA and all of those were superior to US class A armor by varying margins. the us belts could still stop shells but more steel was needed for the same impact which is inefficient (hence backing and decapping sts plates used, ect) the US class B armor was the best or equal to the best homogenious armor and the US STS plates were better than any rival specialty steel but the face hardened class A was not that great.
22steve5150 3 years ago
Yeah, Bismarck did'nt have to worry about damage control bee-yatch!!
Wraithldr13 3 years ago
You prove that a little info is a dangerous thing. The Bismark was a very tough ship, more powerful than anything the Bitish had and was by far the most powerful warship in the Atlantic until 1943, Yamato was launched 18 months after Bismark and is strategically irrelevant to your arguement.
drk2aps 3 years ago
OK, if you read a book you will find out that Bismarck was the most powerful in service at the time. Nothing comissioned at the time was stronger. A lot of ships were in construction but not active. As for US ships, if you read more books, you'll see that when the South Dakota and No Carolina class were trying to lure Tirpitz out, they were NEVER allowed to do so without at least one King George class alongside.
grbquattro 4 years ago
1-i know it was the best at the time but the bismarck crowd think it was the best ever and they are wrong
2-SD and NC arent iowa and the political situation was such that britain HAD TO BE PART OF THE SINKING if a gunfight started between those battleships, not to mention that the allies werent trying to have a one on one fight, they wanted to outnumber it so the job is easier.
22steve5150 4 years ago
not the job where easier, even the king georg didnt last a chance against bismarck it was abe to take oput any ship of the allied fleet, the gangbang was the only way to take it out and that's not what i say, that's what the books and the facts say, when hood attacked bismarck they where 2v2, bismarck took out hood and the other too if they dont turn and run ;)
cardolino82 4 years ago
first of all the south dakota would beat the bismarck's fucking ass. the ONLY thing the bismarck had on it was 2 knots faster speed. as far as that goes the south dakota and iowa would have beat down all of the british battleships of ww2 also (vanguard doesnt count). the bismarck sank a 21 year old battlecruiser and the POW disengaged due to mechanical problems.
22steve5150 4 years ago
mechanical problems?? rofl
cardolino82 4 years ago
yeah dipshit, mechanical problems. look it up. the guns were new and had some teething problems which is why civilain contractors were still on board trying to fix it when the ship was underway. the ship took no serious damage from the 7 hits it took but all of the turrets except one jammed so it retired, fixed the problem, and was back chasing the bismarck within a couple of hours.
22steve5150 4 years ago
pls :D they turned and run after seeing what bismarck did with hood
cardolino82 4 years ago
oh never mind, with an answer like that it proves you dont know what in the fuck you are talking about. keep on making up shit you little punk motherfucker, maybe one day you can convince yourself that germany, italy, and japan won the fucking war.
22steve5150 4 years ago
the bismarck was the most powerfull ships in all sence.. not talking about firepower or other bullshit, it's useless u have a big gun, bismarck was strong, fast, maneuvrable all in 1 packet, take the yamato it was stronger but had 5 or 6 knots less speed that means with the bismarck u can easy go out of it's fire range.. use ur brains some times
cardolino82 4 years ago
the IOWA was a far better example of being "all around most powerful" it was faster, had 50% more steaming range, superior armor, 5 times better AA defense, could run with carriers, had MUCH more powerful guns, the best fire control on any ship, and beat the bismarck in virtually every category hands down.

22steve5150 4 years ago
radar sonar where german, messerschmidts pwnd all, bombers maybe i dunno about and wont argue, jet engine was german, ur F-117 stealth bomber looks soooo similar to the german experimental 1wing jet fighter :D lol u still wont get it, all US have is european and most of it is german if u like it or not :) it's like talking to a horse with eyeflaps :D open ur mind a lil bit

this was only one ship against a bunch of destroyers, several cruisers and some of the biggest batleships in the royal navy. And without "FORCE H" the Bismarck surely would have reached the french harbour and after repairs HE would have kicked some british naval asses!
McDuffee01 4 years ago
Huzzah for hypotheticals. I can do that too. If it wasn't for the Washington Naval Treaty the Royal Navy would have had four N3 battleships with 9 18" guns and 15" of belt armour. The Bismarck wouldn't last 30 minutes against that.
See what I did there?
earwenNL 3 years ago
Yeah, if you have to pound on a ship for an hour and a half with 6 some odd ships and then finally decide to fire torpedoes finally, and it still doesn't sink, that's on hell of a tough ship. And yes it was approximately an hour and a half. Go look it up if you want to.

Great match of music and action. The German battleship Bismark had sunk the British battleship HMS Hood in one salvo, The Bismarck (with sister-ship Tirpitz)had been built to "slug it out" with the largest British warships and also to help sink supply ships to Great Britan. It was claimed the Bismark was even faster than the ocean liner Queen Mary... a lucky hit to the Bismark's rudder allowed her to steam only in a large circle, allowing the British to catch and sink her.
jcl4you 5 years ago
it topok a few savlos, but the bismark had a lucky hit 2 in the shell magazine under the front turret of the hood which blew it out of the water, quit literaly
bawsack666321 5 years ago
the lucky hit would come soon anyway, since the armor was relatively weak... different story, when Brits made shower of shells over Bismark - no big problem.

Something on the order of 2800 individual shell hits, and only four penetrated her hull, none below the waterline. 39 Torpedoes couldn't get through her armor. The crew scuttled her. Had she not taken a lucky torpedo hit in the rudder, the Brits would have had a REALLY bad time.

england dident destroy tehe bismarkt is wohs tehe germans

But there is still no physical proof that says they can take credit.

who cares?
if the royal navy sunk her then the royal navy sunk her, if the ship was scuttled then they did it because otherwise the RN would have sunk her because they had turned her into a wreck, its not like they scuttled her in advance of the battle is it?,,, makes no difference either way though
