definitely an under run heel - fixing the breakover with shoes? why not just back the toe which would fix the break over and be a healthier alternative than shoes - shoes are evil !
this is a TERRIBLE way to "fix" an underrun hoof....all you gotta do it back teh toe up, and bring the heels BACK, and UNDER him...believe it or not..making teh heels SHORTER will actually STRENGTHEN this horses heels, and make him have "ideal" aux-naturel barefoot hooves... why complicate things with blowtorches, shoes, resigns and rockers....work with what the horse was given.
Agree with person under my post, this heel is long and underrun. Putting shoes on will not fix this. Just trim the toe back to release tension to the hoof and the heels will stand up on their own, then next trim you can think about trimming the heels if the internal structures are strong enough the handle the load for a propper heel first landing. And he said it will never be an ideal hoof.... why not? You can boot a horse with pads for a few months so you dont have to shoe and ruin the hoof
Heels too long! Yes they are underrun but that is because they are long. Get then back under the horse where they are supposed to be and learn to trim. No need for shoes to fix this issue! And yes this hoof if trimmed can grow to an idea hoof!
fill the bare foot with soleguard,,,rocker the toe......would be more effective.....but the shoers wouldnt make the big money as with this shoe-pad-filler combo.......poor horses....poor horse owners wallets..............what did this cost? you guys always evertime LEAVI THIS OUT of your videos.......wazzup with that?
That horse does not need shoes....Nor does he need any sole removed. Just trimming the noof wall is perfect enough the sole and frog will sluff off naturally.
@hyperfocus2011 I agree, it seems what this shoe is doing is giving an artifical mustang roll which they could have just created using the real hoof wall.
Do you have any after shots of this hoof? For some reason I don't see too many corrective shoe videos that have the horse actually corrected. If you have any or know of any let me know. thanks
Under-run heels are hardly ever solid, they offer poor strength and stability as they are deformed horn. You need to get to solid horn to make this real difference.
Red, Almost all of this I agree with. Except in regards too the heel trimming, or lack there of I would have to say what you suggest is improper or at least misleading. If you leave a heel long and run forward you are exacerbating the problem and in effect dragging the rest of the new growth forward. While your IM and frog support will help transfer the load to the frog and bone column you need to trim the heels properly to allow a good base of support for this horse to stand on.
As soon as I saw the blowtorch, I couldnt watch anymore agree with hayleyclarke comments!!!
