@jockeyvt the first one hands down is better. it has a better story. the second one was rushed and certain plots and storylines were cut short and left with no conclusions. like there was supposed to b a robot planet u travel to to invade the hk-50 factory but the planet was removed but the plot leading you to the planet is still there, it just ends with you needing to find it but you cant find it. they r both good games the first one is just better
@fameasser123 Yes unfortunately they were forced to rush it out before finishing up, but luckily most of the content was on the disc, just not applied properly. The modders have long ago seen to it that the (basically) full game is out, just get the restored content mod.

Kotor 2 is so underrated on my eyes. The story is a lot darker and more mature than in one. If Obsidian had more time to finish the game it would be superior to Kotor 1

I liked this game. The creators wanted to do something what is similar to the movies. They made an ignorant jedi student(you). And they made Han Solo calibered roughneck guy (Carth/Aton). And the put the shocking turning point to the game: OMG I am Revan!!!!!!! I don't know why they do an MMORPG. The Bioware could do a game where the battle controll is excellent(Mass Effect) and the story would be the best(Star Wars). Everything else what you need? :D
i've never heard of any sequel that ends with 2 it would be a shame if there wouldn't be a third game.. don't worry they know they can earn more money with kotor so never lost your hope for a new one

@thegamerman7 I agree that Jedi Academy is a awesome story and a really really amazing gameplay, and you feel so much as a Jedi/Sith, cause everything is ''flowed'' , I mean it has so much content, for exemple, you may lose your lightsaber, than use the force to pick it up, you can combine powers like Grip than trow lightsaber, you can grip and lighting, you can Push Lighting Trow... theres so much into it!
But Kotor 1 and 2 are also amazing, because it makes you feel like a total 100% RPG!

There is no big decission at the end to decide if you want to be light or dark side. And the ultimate twist in gaming history is in the first KOTOR. So the second pales in comparison.

@krtica2 There are reasons to get influence for your party members in Kotor 2. Many of them have backstories and actually tell you things to them. Afterward many of them like Mira, Atton etc. Allow you to train them as Jedi (Which I would say is FAR more significant then talking to Canderous in Kotor about old war stories or playing Pazaak with Mission). Kreia also gives you an ingame paragon path, and your party member's stats increase as you influence them

@isorSOT Kotor 2 isnt all linear. After you get past Peragus and Telos (Which are roughly 2 hours of game time. In Kotor 1 you had to spend like an hour and a half on Taris if you didnt do any subquests) After that you are free to go to places like Dxun, Onderon, Nar Shadda etc. The game also features more subquests inbetween worlds which allows for far more replayability of old saves
@macNtires Yeah, it was unfinished. Had they have finished it properly, it would've had to be released around mid 2005. They wanted to release it for Christmas, so they cut a lot of dialogue, movies and a whole planet

@zieba Ah.., no. He's talking about the current Republic, by the time of Kotor 2 its already an old Republic (20,000 yrs old or more, to be more exact), so he can call it the Old Republic.
@zieba More importantly that old Republic was indeed crippled during Kotor 2 after 3 major wars inside of 50 yrs, with 2 of the most recent wars following each other back to back. The Republic was about to collapse.
Kotor had awesome story, but limited combat and choices/upgrades. Kotor II raises combat to a higher level and adds more content in terms of items and RPG freedom. But it kinda fails on story, cus the underline its copy pasted from the first one(and therefore it has so many references to the main game) Over all, Kotor II largely feels as a great expansion to the 1st game. You should play them both!
@Kserijaro Kotor 1's plotline was "Some guy named Darth Malak is out there and you must fight him by destroying his evil factory" or "rule the galaxy". The only real story elements that made it good were it's romances and plot twists.
Kotor 2's was more complicated and far more focused on enlightenment and quelling an ancient evil within the protagonist. There wasnt a villian per-say and it was far more complicated then simply "Kill the bad guy, get the girl, save the galaxy"
@TheCryoScales plot twists... are what makes plot interesting. Same plot twist usage is stupid. And it was simply "kill the bad guys that are attacking you" and "OOoh, you were evil too!"
Kotor II has more awesome bosses. Kotor I has a way better story. FACT
@Kserijaro Kotor 2 had plot twists, it actually had more plot twists then Kotor 1 did. Like Kreia being the master manipulator, the player character being a force syphon. There were a lot of those. It didn't reuse the same plot twist from Kotor 1 of the player character being an ancient sith lord. Kotor 2 wasn't about killing the bad guys that attack you and infact many of them the player doesn't actually kill in combat but through conversations.
@TheCryoScales The thing about KOTOR II that I didn't like was the fact that there is no memorable storyline. Yes, Kreia was cool, the bosses were cool, the good vs evil line is more blurred,...but other than that, it's was not memorable. To put it in other words, if KOTOR 2 would have been the first game out, it would not have been as appreciated as KOTOR 1.
Everybody familiar with the Star Wars Universe knows about Revan and Malak. Very few know about the Exile or Kreya.

I disagree with your notion that the second game was more "memorable". The second game was still pretty memorable during certain parts, like the new force powers, Kreia revealing herself to be a master sithlord. Darth Nihilus and his big fight etc.

@mage434 I also did that, looking for a new game and having missed the first one. After I finished The Sith Lords, I was pretty quick getting the first game. I've never been able to decide which one I liked more, I just treat it like a saga.

@krtica2 There are reasons to get influence for your party members in Kotor 2. Many of them have backstories and actually tell you things to them. Afterward many of them like Mira, Atton etc. Allow you to train them as Jedi (Which I would say is FAR more significant then talking to Canderous in Kotor about old war stories or playing Pazaak with Mission). Kreia also gives you an ingame paragon path, and your party member's stats increase as you influence them

@isorSOT KOTOR 2 has a better game engine; KOTOR 1 has a better story ;) KOTOR 2 has better character spec capabilitties;
in Kotor 1 you have true romance scenes and situations;
KOTOR 2 has only symbolic romance
in KOTOR 2 there is actually NO reason to hunt for influence with your party except if u play evil and wanna turn ya'r friends evil. OR if u hunt for Revan info and u hang out with the assassin droid and Kreia (forgot his name sorry )

@isorSOT Kotor 2 isnt all linear. After you get past Peragus and Telos (Which are roughly 2 hours of game time. In Kotor 1 you had to spend like an hour and a half on Taris if you didnt do any subquests) After that you are free to go to places like Dxun, Onderon, Nar Shadda etc. The game also features more subquests inbetween worlds which allows for far more replayability of old saves

The story elements were great in this one, a lot darker. But the plot was so bad! It didn't make much sense, like some unfinished puzzle.

@macNtires Yeah, it was unfinished. Had they have finished it properly, it would've had to be released around mid 2005. They wanted to release it for Christmas, so they cut a lot of dialogue, movies and a whole planet

@ultimatezeldaplayer There's two endings. One is the easiest where you defeat Kreia and destroy Malachor. The other is the darkside ending where you kill Kreia and rule Malachor.

@zieba Ah.., no. He's talking about the current Republic, by the time of Kotor 2 its already an old Republic (20,000 yrs old or more, to be more exact), so he can call it the Old Republic.

@zieba More importantly that old Republic was indeed crippled during Kotor 2 after 3 major wars inside of 50 yrs, with 2 of the most recent wars following each other back to back. The Republic was about to collapse.

Kotor had awesome story, but limited combat and choices/upgrades. Kotor II raises combat to a higher level and adds more content in terms of items and RPG freedom. But it kinda fails on story, cus the underline its copy pasted from the first one(and therefore it has so many references to the main game) Over all, Kotor II largely feels as a great expansion to the 1st game. You should play them both!

@Kserijaro Kotor 1's plotline was "Some guy named Darth Malak is out there and you must fight him by destroying his evil factory" or "rule the galaxy". The only real story elements that made it good were it's romances and plot twists.
Kotor 2's was more complicated and far more focused on enlightenment and quelling an ancient evil within the protagonist. There wasnt a villian per-say and it was far more complicated then simply "Kill the bad guy, get the girl, save the galaxy"

Kotor II has more awesome bosses. Kotor I has a way better story. FACT

@Kserijaro Kotor 2 had plot twists, it actually had more plot twists then Kotor 1 did. Like Kreia being the master manipulator, the player character being a force syphon. There were a lot of those. It didn't reuse the same plot twist from Kotor 1 of the player character being an ancient sith lord. Kotor 2 wasn't about killing the bad guys that attack you and infact many of them the player doesn't actually kill in combat but through conversations.
The character Kreia isn't exactly evil either.

@TheCryoScales The thing about KOTOR II that I didn't like was the fact that there is no memorable storyline. Yes, Kreia was cool, the bosses were cool, the good vs evil line is more blurred,...but other than that, it's was not memorable. To put it in other words, if KOTOR 2 would have been the first game out, it would not have been as appreciated as KOTOR 1.
Everybody familiar with the Star Wars Universe knows about Revan and Malak. Very few know about the Exile or Kreya.

@brav0wing I think that's more a factor of fame really, Kotor 1 was more famous and sold more then the second game.
I disagree with your notion that the second game was more "memorable". The second game was still pretty memorable during certain parts, like the new force powers, Kreia revealing herself to be a master sithlord. Darth Nihilus and his big fight etc.
