  • Paul Weller...LAD.

  • MK full of fake people? Well we do have the concrete cows but Im quite sure Im flesh and blood, no fakery here.

  • btw this is one of my most favourite songs, Style Council is my n:o1 band this year

  • lol, i lived in Milton Keynes all my life and i've never heard this song before

  • @sasuhinafan01 this should be your national(somekind) anthem

  • Mick sure looked like a goof.

  • @Padawan: you sir are a racist fool. Go and live on an Island with some of your other wierd and wonderful special friends. Oh...can you hear mummy calling...?...time for bed darling...

  • I"m sure all the gay bars in all cities in the world dig this.

  • this song just showed paul weller to be an arrogant prick this is a man that doed not practice what he preaches 'a man that slags off public school system but sent his kids to one

  • @wozzi71 can't a man change his mind? it is the measure of a man that he can admit when he is wrong.

  • It's strange listening to this tune at the moment, its like a warning from history about them Tories....

  • This track sounds like the whole basis of Park Life by Blur.

  • Could be any new town of the 70s/80s. The idea of offering a new hope to those affected by the closure of factories, mines, British industry by building artificial communities is laughable, as weller points out.

  • What's more, unlike the archaic places most of you morons are from, Milton Keynes also has a present: Loads of different activities, sports, & recreation catered for; many lakes and parks, but where it's urban there's lots of greenery, parking and walking room; there's underpasses instead of those shit people-traffic lights; and a rectalinear grid system with roundabouts that makes getting around easy and you can go when there's no one on the right unlike with red traffic lights.

  • @olliesmyth22

and also a city of unbeluevable bullshit merchants, one where everyone fights for some identity

and did i mention the massive immigration there and the crime

how you walk through the town everyone thinks they are a gangster

i done 2 months on a student exchange there

the town is filled with fake people

    it is souless

the locals spend there spare time convincing each other its great

when everyone i met there hates the place and cant wait to leave

im french and i prefer paris slums

  • @padawon88

"unbeluevable" huh? did you even try and spell that correctly? I hope not for your sake. Immigration? Like every city of it's size in England? Crime? Again, like every city of its size in England? 2 months? I've lived here most of my life! Dont tell me you know my home better than I do. And what gives you the right to insult my home?

  • @olliesmyth22 Milton Keynes isn't a city - it's merely a Town with a stolen football club.

  • @padawon88

Also, if locals live at a place then isnt what you've said a massive contradiction? If people didnt like you then maybe that had something to do with you insulting them and their home?? And statements like 'everyone thinks they are a gangster' aren't doing the credibility of your argument any good. Do they really all believe that? What part did you visit, Woodhill prison?

  • "A song which derides the soul-less expreriment-gone-wrong that was/is Milton Keynes?" That's ridiculous. Those that say Milton Keynes is soul-less or has no history are morons. It's built around a number of historic villages including Stony Stratford, home of the cock and the bull pubs from which the term 'cock and bull story' derives; Bletchley, home of Bletchley Park where the Enigma was decoded during WWII; and it's name-sake the village Milton Keynes.

  • Fucking Brilliant. The video to the track is ace too. I have to work in Milton Keynes - I love the drive up to A5 back to Warwickshire.

  • You can keep the place. So much space, but so uninspiring. Someone recently said 'Milton Keynes, City of the future, built in the Past'. Fucking right.

  • Nothing wrong wit MK now

  • @andy5gs apart from the the education system.... there's an 'h' in 'with'.....

  • I come on here to look at this recording or a great song by a great band. A song which derides the soul-less expreriment-gone-wrong that was/is Milton Keynes. I come on here to look at that and I find a political discussion about the Tories! Get a grip!

  • The TORIES will win the next General Election! DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes they probally will. But thats because people have very short memories.I can promise you the working man will suffer greatly under the Tories.

My dad always called said " Thatcher the milk snatche" Petty Bitch that she was!!!

  • As a working Man myself, i can honestly say we've been well stiched up by Brown and Blair!

  • @JAYROX1969

Yes the Uk will replace one small shower of shit with one huge shower of shit.

I have promised myself to attend Thatchers funeral ,with dignity, will take pleasure in pissing all over its grave

  • yes and i'll gladly piss on blairs grave when he snuffs it!!!!!!!!!

  • @JAYROX1969

hes a tory -please yourself what you do-but the true bitch tory was thatcher-leaving the uk as bankers (tee hee) and shop staff-no heavy industry,no coal, just a free market-and look whats happened there.

  • lol

  • You're a fool

  • You're inarticulate.

  • Cont...(!) Blair&Brown have achieved their own political aims of the sense of power, but jeez what a legacy they've left (yes left because Brown is clearly finished). And you should also study your musical history. When still in the Jam, Weller was a self professed Thatcherite and Tory.....

  • Study your musical history - when 18 Weller said he would vote Tory to get up the noses of the punk elite. He was not talking literally you fool!

  • I doubt I wear rose-tinted spectacles or was protected... I lived in a mining community in the miners strike. I think you are the one wearing rose-tinted spectacles...

  • The mine closures remain a national disgrace of the Thatcher era. We have over a 300 year supply of fossil fuel underground - there is a fuel shortage looming in the future. The closure of all industry by Thatcher was diabolical. It made the economy too reliant on the financial sector and service provision. Hence Thatcher sowed the seeds for the credit crunch. Her policies explain why the UK has been hit harder than anywhere in Europe.

  • @m1s1green Well said. She hated anything to do with manufacturing so shut it down. . Also what she did to us up here in Scotland went against everything her party stood for as the Conservative and Unionist Party. We are part of that union, but she kicked the shit out of us thanks to the SNP letting her in in '79 and the fact we mostly voted labour. I hope they never get back in

  • Gibraltaria, how pompous you are to declare that you state nothing but fact and that history will prove you right. Illusions of grandeur? You are clearly right-wing, and you are entitled to be. However, your subjective opinions are not fact(s). Learn to express yourself better... You do yourself no favours.

  • When will you people learn. You should at least read some political history.Thatcher rescued this country, which was on it's knees as a result of labour in the 70's. This is historical fact.I suspect all of the pro labour posts here are from people under 30, because you don't remember the streets teeming with rats due to public sector strikes, rubbish piled higher than houses. We were all working a 3 day week to save energy because the country didn't have any money.

  • Gibraltia i am over 30. I grew up in the 70's. They were not such 'bad times' as you make out. Historical fact is one thing, living in the times is another. You are talking shit-spoon fed propaganda.

  • Comment removed

  • @Gibraltaria You are quite clearly a deluded person. I lived through the late 70s and 80s. I remember the race riots in Brixton and Toxteth. The Poll tax fiasco as well.

Thatcher only won the 1983 elcetion because of the feel good factor from the Falklands conflict.

Interesting then that like then, this present Tory Lack Dem Govt is planning on scrapping our future aircraft carriers. Maybe they are trying to encourage the Argentinians to invade the Falklands again.

  • @rtypedave yeah the race riots are always caused by immigrants why is it the goverments fault? (apart from them letting them in) why do you brits alwats shoot yourself in teh foot afraid to show racial and national pride blame each other for each others problems when you as a nation should be united you are dying a slow miserable death in full view of the whole world and your worried about integrating 2nd generation non-cauacasians that diverse mixture is the problem of your issues so sad
  • @Gibraltaria The three-day week was under the Conservative government in 1973.

  • Weller and all the others, ie, Ben Elton, tony Robinson are all hypocritical champagne socialists! Rule Britannia! We will fight them on the beaches!! Why don't u go and live in cuba? they're all commies there!

  • I remember in 97 when the likes of oasis and the other lefties went to no.10 to arse lick tony blair, how do u feel now? Gutted i expect after blair fucked this country up for good! All governments stitch us up, left or right, both as bad as each other.

  • It's quite depressing how many of Weller's "80's" lyrics all make sense. This song about violence and oppressive and depressive inner city life, the recent reintroduction of Eton Rifles to the setlist and it all still makes sense and has resonance.

The man is a sage and a prophet!

  • Clubseen, its also sad they relate to today, unless that is what you meant! (or wot u mnt, in the vernacular). Only thing is, remember Weller was so pro-Labour in those days? think he participated in a big anti-Thatcher/Pro-Kinnock concert tour?

  • Indeed I did mean they are still relevant today. To get political (with a small p) for a brief moment I think Labour blew it in 97 when they could have buried Thatcher's "there is no such thing as society" but went for tax cuts rather than public spending. The parents of the feral kids that ruin society are Thatcher's offspring come home to roost.

  • The country is in a much more worse state now than it ever was under Margaret Thatcher. Most people only had it in for Maggie because she was a woman. Blair has well and truly fucked this country. How do you feel now Mr Weller?

  • Sure, nothing to do with dismantling society, selling off state resources, ploughing millions of public money into trains before selling to private companies, telling the jobless to move about the country looking for working, closing pits to import foreign coal (and workers)... it was all because she was a woman (allegedly).

  • You really think Kinnock would've done better? Keep fooling yourself.

  • When we had 3 million unemployed, 15% unemployment, three year hospital waiting lists and had to devalue the pound under Thatcher we'd have counted these tough times as halcyon days mate.

  • Things are heading that way again, labour have screwed us big time. Immigration is out of control, kids running around with knives, the highest number of underage pregnancies, a welfare state where women have kids with different fathers so they can sponge off the state, so called asylum seekers who get everything they want when they arrive here, if that's your labour utopia, you can forget it. Thanks blair, R.I.P England. Fact is, the country was a much more decent place under Maggie.

  • Sounds like England today, blair has fucked us up and sold us down the river. If the tories were that bad, why were they in power for 18 years? Labour is bollocks and blair and brown have proved it, we are now worse off than ever, thanks to labour, remember, THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER!! All the celebrities and musicians licking blairs arse at no 10 in 97, how do they feel now? Conned i expect.

  • The fact that Blair was a Tory wolf in Labour sheep's clothes doesnt' excuse the fact that Thatcher was a fascist.

  • You're either joking or a Nazi.

  • @JAYROX1969

And Labour was in power for 13 years. So they must have been really bad too.

    The Tory Party=The stupid party

  • @rtypedave

they both are as bad as each other and anyone thats still argues over party lines are as stupid as the politicans.

i mean they are both the same in ideology just different ways of achieveing the same principles

but new labour have proved the most destructive to your nation

they allowed unchecked immigration and the birth of rampant political correctness and spin

quote tony blair; ''my greatest achievement in power is the domination of liberal beliefs''....forcibly may i add

  • so sellin everything off was a good thing?...do u wake up to a morning call of, 'heil jayrox!'.... go read something cos u dont kno jack!

  • We're in more shit now under labour than ever, get wise man!

  • @JAYROX1969

Stop wrting rubbish you congential idiot.

  • True, wonder what he thought about blair and new labour.

  • He refused to accept a CBE* as he wouldn't be seen shaking hands with (in his words) "a war criminal".

*technically you cannot officially not accept it so in truth he did get it.

  • with who is this? can i just ask please.

i mean who wouldnt paul shake hands with btw

  • Tony Blair.

  • What's the significance of the session musicians being dressed as monks?! Great song.

  • Filmed on the same day as Live Aid. They performed their set, drove to TV studios for this programme "Kelly's Eye" then back to Wembley for the Live Aid finale.

  • Original and interesting song

  • This kinda reminds me of Difford & Tilbrook.

  • Another one for those that say Paul doesn't have a sense of humour.

  • He has a sense of humour...slightly misinformed but there you go. I imagine Woking is no better.

  • Cool...I love the monk outfits
