There's something about Andrew and his music where, if your a fan, your a massive fan. I've listened to everything he's done since ready...break and there isnt a song I dont love. He's just a hero musically, and as a person. also a super nice guy as far as i know from interviews and what people have said about him in comments. I cant think of a better role model

No, in the documentary "Dear Jack" about Andrew McMahon (who is actually the lead singer of Jack's Mannequin, most people think his name is Jack, but it's not) Andrew says that this song is about a kid from his hometown who was sick. The song ended up helping him (Andrew) through his own sickness.

The big thing about this song is that Andrew wrote it for someone else, but it ultimately helped him and that just adds to the song's amazing-ness. :)

in "dear jack" a documentary about andrew's fight with luekemia he explains how he written this song before he got sick for his friends little brother who had luekemia. He finds it very ironic that he ended up with luekemia too, so that is why they chose "dear jack" as the title for the movie as well.

Originally, there was said to be "not much significance behind the name," but upon McMahon's diagnoses though, it became ironic as "the Jack I wrote the song for & ultimately named the project for after, had suffered from childhood leukemia."

He formed the band under the name Jack's Mannequin, which had come about after McMahon had considered the name The Mannequins. However, after growing "bored of the 'the' band names," he decided to "sandwich" it together with the title of a song he had completed for the record, "Dear Jack."

I heard in an interview that the same Jack's Mannequin came from him and Clutch walking around and he noticed there weren't any black manneqins in the these urban clothing stores, and he liked the wording, but he couldn't call a band the black mannequins, for obvious reasons and jack rhymes with black, so it stuck.
