@Alexwholikescars999 Couches?? It's spelt coaches!! From various places, local model shop, model railway show's & exhibitions, Toy & train fairs(swapmeets), varoius models shps on the internet etc. See the adverts in the model press (magazines).
@02081912Frabas Thank you. It's a great model, & careful setting up of the acceleration CV's on the decoder, can have some very smooth starts :-) cheers.
@modeltrainteen95 This model is how Scotsman was looked in 2004. I don't going to how much i pay for models, so far as to say shop around for best prices. See your local model shops, internet, toy & train fairs & exhibitons, model press for details.
@modeltrainteen95 Yes, that's correct it's DCC ready. With this model, it's a case of trawling the 2nd hand market now, or model shops that may still have one in stock. Not sure what the current price of this model is now. Again with the V.A.T increase, the cost is more than what it was in 2004. However..... The NRM at york is releasing another new comission of this model, goes on sale around september. Black war time livery £149 & the apple green livery £146.
I have just got a nrm scotsman and am hopping to do run it in dcc but have seen a worrying picture off a what can go wrong if the dcc chip is placed incorrectly, where did you place your chip in the loco body and did you use the sleeve as well. Cheers
@JayJJ69 I've placed the decoder in the front end smokebox area, as there's enough room for one to go in there. It's in a sleeve but with air gaps left at either end. TCS Decoders do a UK fit 8 pin direct plug in decoder, this has the actual pins on the under side of the decoder. So that would be another option to choose as well.Regards.
@ay76 I have fitted a DCC decoder but the loco is continuously shorting on left hand corners on matter what the radius of the corner is. Did you have a problems the the loco?
ya know, i've got a basset lowke scotsman and it is so fragile. like i have a DCC controller and i have to remain at the 3rd bar, and its amazing. GO HORNBY!!!
Please Help Me!!! I just cannot work out how to get the body off this loco! I have got as far as the screw under the smoke box but then what...? The body just doesn't lift off!
Visit Hornby's website & go to decoder fitting guides. There you'll find the full instructions with regards to removing the body. (see also the supplied instruction sheet that comes with the loco. You'll also need to undo the speed cable, again as per instructions on Hornby's website. Cheers.
If you look at the loco with it's front end pointing to your left look at the last pair of driving wheelsnext to the cab. You'll see a black Cable that connects on to the centre of the wheel. You'll need to undo the speedo cable from the wheel. Then remove the body as per instructions. Cheers.
Where is the speed cable? Hornbys website was no help what so ever! My loco was brought new but it didn't come with any sheets or paper in the box. Could you maybe do a video on removing the body? It would be of very great help.
You'll need to contact where you bought your loco from or Hornby for the service & info sheets. Puzzled as to why if it's brand new they should be missing?? Again follow Hornby's instructions on their website, (easier than trying to explain myself) I found it was very useful & very easy to follow. Cheers.
It's not fitted with a sound decoder, for the diesel sound see around 54 seconds in the video. It's Bachmann class 37 fitted with sound which you can hear. Cheers.
this is why i live dcc, it makes the train run so smoothly. if you use the cheap hornby cnotrolers with a red button the 1st speed is quite high so it really unrealistic. so dcc is the best
Cool. The rail road range is a good move by Hornby, as it's very reasonable price & a good & cheap way of building up the model fleet. Any way welcome back to the the hobby, kind regards..
Yes easy to look after. The one you see here has to be handled with a bit more care than the railroad version, due to it's fragile super detail parts. The railroad version is a fine model too, but will with stand being handled more, due to not having so many super detailed parts. So what Hornby have done here is cater for both ends of the model market, which i think a great idea. Kind regards.
my flying scotsman came in a train set and don't think you can just fit a decoder but i don't know and i am a not a genius for fitting stuff in trains could i ask what you need to fit if its not ready for a decoder
Many thanks for watching. I wish I did work for Hornby, but sadly no. Been collecting for just over 30 years (dosen't seem like it), & a fair case of saving up. Cheers.
They where originally done by Harburn Hobbies (of Edinburgh) & model rail (magazine) as a ltd ed run. Long since sold out i'm afraid. It maybe a case of trawling ebay & the net, toy &train fairs & model shows now. There was two different box sets containing 2 coaches in each.Regards.
I just wondered if you know what i'm doing wrong? I know you should make all your points 'live' but when i start putting the clips on the points get a 3rd of the way round my layout and try and run a loco the system shuts down and displays 'error'?
Maybe if you use Peco Insulating fish plates & put in some extra power feeds, may help solve this. Can you send me a video of your layout,do a really slow panning shot & tell me where all your power feeds are.I may be able to figure out whats causing the system to shut down.On the Test track layout, it was using Peco Electrofrog points. The layout was divided in to two half's with power feeds to each half of the layout.Only time my system shut down when a a loco decided to derail.Regards.
Thank you, I think i've got it set up right for setting off.Still playing about with some of the other settings.I can't wait until the real Scotsman hits the rails again.Cheers.
where do you get the train and the couches from?

modeltrainteen95 7 months ago
@modeltrainteen95 The class 37 came with sound as standard. Prices are dearer now, due to the rise in V.A.T. A case of shop around for best prices.

@plutonium136 Not sensitive, the CV settings on the decoder have been set & finer tunned to give a more realistic start etc.
