theyve got very different styles tho. mick has a much more aggressive style, where as jim makes more use of legato and smooth playing. thats why mick's easier to hear. i like jim more tho, im a legato man :D and i too play metal on a custom fender.

ACTUALLY, a normal tele, they say, has too much "twang". Also, yes, it just has single coils. A Jim Root tele has EMG 81 at the bridge, EMG 60 at the neck, single volume, three way toggle, and all black hardware. Honestly, my standard tele sounds just fine to me. U can recreate a Jim root tele for less, but i think it's just the name that matters to others. Check out my "Before I Forget" cover.

really thick strings, it increases tension way loads in standard tuned so when its in that tuning, it'll be the same as ur usual guitar with 9's. also this guitar is a fixed bridge so it has more sustain etc. its all about sustain and action tbh, get some uber thick strings lower the action a bit but not too much and just experiment.
