great film, all done behind the Iron Curtain. Czech out New Wave, better than French Old Splash. Polish cinema did great B/W movies from the 50s, the Finns make the most realistic war movies, Germans and French films are overrated, with exceptions of course. 50s/60s Jpanese cinema is good, anything by Satyajit Ray or Ozu or Fellini or Bergman or Tarkovsky or Tarr or Guney or Godoy. Ripstein too. Neorealistic films from Japan,Greece,Italy,Spain,Brazil.Mexico,Poland,Czecholslavakia,USSR,IranTurkey
@nickandmikec Well, it's hard to find any information about her. Maybe because she wasn't an actress (Polanski met her at the swimming pool, and proposed to play in his film). After 'Knife in the Water', Umecka played in a few films, but it weren't leading roles. Then, she disappeared ;)

Thank you. Maybe not the usual definition of an actress but a lot better than most. Thank you. Sincerely, Nick and Mike Campbell

Does anyone have any information about this actress, Jolanta Umecka? When was she born; is she still alive? She was amazing.
