  • I've had a 1966 ford mustang for two years and was tired of shitty gas mileage, barely being able to drive in bad weather (which happens a lot) and having to get tires way to often. So got a 2006 wrx wagon, had it for two weeks. And I love it! Has enough grip to pull your eyes out, sounds great! Very roomy, good gas mileage and everything a muscle car doesn't have.. If you want to drive a car for fun every day and have it make since, get a suby!!

  • @08WhiteSi it was like a 4 seater corvette, the G8 was like a 4 door corvette. .. try fitting extra passengers in a mustang, YOU CAN'T. has nothing to do with them being out of business either, and putting bigger tires on a GTO is easily done I know people who have done it. The mustang still has a straight rear axle, no IRS.. only available in ROUSH models which are expensive as hell.

    Heck, I have a 3rd gen firebird. it is the only car I have. It's not a sexy 70 chevelle or 69 camaro, but it has an older time look. It has a sporty look. Not a sleeper though, the old 350 is loud as hell

  • Yes, and like I said, I do respect the abilities of the STi, it is definitely a fast car. As far as Pontiac, it's true that most of their cars that you see are junk. All I know is, I can rarely go out or drive to work and not have somebody pull up next to me and tell me I have a nice car. I love my GTO.

  • At least Subaru still makes cars :P Evo is done, GTO is gone. only thing left is mustang for the price range Bravo to Ford for kicking out soo much power from a v6 in the 2011. Still spend about 169 dollars on a mod called tactrix and you will find a WRX not only beats the STI but also the GTO in a 1/4 mile. See my vid for examples.

  • 14 second for the STI? Who the fuck was driving that? My friend got a 13.47 in his STI STOCK. Not a single thing done to it. Hell my WRX when it was stock ran with the 6.0 GTO's up to 90mph. And I had 227 hp lol. It's pretty sad for the GTO.

  • In Australia (where the gto and pontiac g8 come from and are made), we dont waist our time by racing a Monaro (gto) against a wanker box like the wrx. We race Ford Falcon v Holden Commodore (g8) v Holden Monaro (gto).

  • @rextuner03 Wrong, unless you are referring to the '04 GTO with the LS1. Look it up. The 2005 GTO can hit 13 flat (some even claim 12.8) with a good driver. Once you figure out how to launch it properly, you're good to go and the GTO spoiler is functional as well (and not nearly as obnoxious, but that's opinion and therefore irrelevant).

  • @theblackpope00 I was refering to the models in the vid actually. I know those numbers are boasted for pontiac bragging. Have you ever actually seen a stock GTO run those numbers even in the 6.0? I am at the track all the time and i have NEVER seen them run those times. With slicks and a good driver yeah but slicks are stock so that doesn't really count. And I agree about the spoilers, the STi one isn't my favorite. I prefer the WRX with the low profile spoiler on the 02-03 WRX's.

When I bought my GTO, I didnt buy it with the intention of it competing with an STI, and the GTO was never built to compete with the STI. It was built as a muscle car and meant to look and sound good, along with having that 400 horses under its hood.

Now if you wanted a car that was designed to compete with an STI, my old car woulda been that. I've destroyed many an STI with a car thats 7+ years older than the STI, but nobodies comparing that M3 to the STI.

  • What are you talking about? I'll take the GTO anyday. The WRX looks cheap as hell. So it has slight advantages in some categories. So what? It's still more exciting to see and hear a nice GTO then to see another subaru. I'm not saying the STi isn't a fast car. Besides a Mitsubishi VR-4 or a tt supra, it's one of the only imports that deserves respect on the street. But the GTO is a more mature, intimidating car. Offended WRX owners, feel free to reply...

Sti might look cheap but it aint cheap, it costs just as much as the GTO & honestly gives a lot more (Advanced diffs with diff control, extensively proven boxer engine, a car that can handle itself in a turn, & a car u can drive in any weather (snow, slush, mud, mountain trails, i live in canada lol). If ur lookin to look good while ur cruising or wana show off ur straightline acc go for a mustang, it simply does everythin better than a gto. peace & love

  • @CCMedic09 Well clearly you are talking about a WRX and not a WRX STi. The sound of a boxer engine is one to die for. That low rumble with that BOV is something so distinct i shed a tear whenever someone compares it to another all looks no go car. The symmetrical AWD makes it a all terrain vehicle. I dont know where you live but id be lucky to see a Subaru every few days. Just because your V8 got tooken for a walk around the park by a 4 Banger doesnt mean you have to get your panties in a bunch.

  • No, I'm talking about an STi. The sound of their engine is nothing special to me. This might be because all the kids who have them slap aftermarket mufflers and exhausts on them and they end up sounding like shit. I never said it was an "all looks, no go car." In fact, I wouldn't say they look that spectacular to begin with. I do give credit to the STi's performance. I have a 2005 GTO and I have only raced one STi. It was on the highway and I beat him. My car is stock.

A Exhaust only brings out the low rumble of what makes a Subaru a Subaru. I like the look off an STi more than a GTO but thats all opinions. You'd be suprised how many people buy a WRX and put a STi wing on it to make it look like a STi. It really brings down the rep of a STi. Most driver of STi's arnt looking for a race. They are smart enough to take it to the track.

  • @CCMedic09 i really enjoy the way the gto looks and the 5.7 is a bullet proof and flexible engine. i mean it powers my 91 suburban to just not as gutsy. and the subaru is more of a back roads carver than bombin cruiser. both cars are sick id love to drive one of each one day although id rather own a subie purely for the awd and flexibility of the tune. other than that tough choice ;)

  • i really dont like pontiacs i do truly beleive they are shit but the gto is a carry over from an austrailian commodore. the gto is a rebadged aussie gm product. its an impressive machine no matter what way you slice it. and im the scooby guy cant wait to pick one up but theres nothing like a v8... i love all machines isnt that what loving cars is about?

  • @CCMedic09 it actually has advantages in every category according to the video LOLoLol look at it this way, the wrx doesnt need 6 cylinders to be a monster, nor does the GT-R, i have 2 kids and wanted a nice sporty car, the wrx is what im walking out with... all in all, you preffer american muscle, i preffer imported ..... besides you can probably customize the gto to have more horsepower than the sti so in the end everyone comes out winning right

  • The STi really is a great car, it's daily driver friendly and practical in every way but it will open up like a banshee and run with the best of them when you want it to.

  • Sure the STI is easier to mod ,but its turbocharged which is always cheaper to mod / tuneup than a "regular" intake Engine like the LS2 in the GTO !

    But remember: turbolag is a fag ;-) There's nothing better than the direct action from a big V8 =P

  • this video is bull... idk how many times ive seen a (6.0) gto walk all over the sti... the sti is a 2.5 turbod about 290 hp..the gto is a 6.0 at 400 hp.. the sti weight is about 3200 and the gto 3600.. if you really think this video is true go find a stock 6.0 gto just like the one in this video and a stock sti like the one in this this video line um up and see what happens. ill leave it up to you... as for me im going with the gto in the 1/4 but the sti in the turns duh...

    the sti is an amazing machine on the track, around turns, and has a great launch from a dead stop.

    the gto is a grand tourer car, on the highway, without a doubt it rules over the sti, higher top speed, more pull at higher speeds, and it lives up to its name, GTO="gran turismo omologato" it was never intended to be a "race around the track car" put it in a straight line, and say goodbye in your rearview mirror.

  • I have owned both of these cars and modified them both slightly, putting about the same amount of $ into each. In the end, the video is right - the STi walks all over the GTO in nearly every way.

    The GTO is harder to mod, its N/A motor doesn't respond as well to ECU tuning as the STI, its handling numb and heavy, and traction is a problem.

    In the end, the STi shows its a true sports car with unbelievable agility, power and traction. And I dont even like imports!

  • @eb1zzle buddy of mine had an 05 STi and was always talking about how pricey it was to modify the car up, im saying this from hearing from him, he ended up trading his car in for an EVO which he stated was much cheaper to pull serious power from

  • @ADD8oi: Its weird you should say that, because the 05 STI is well known as one of the best and easiest STIs ever for mods. Mine was an 04, but to put things in perspective, I gained 80whp (roughly 110bhp) with only $1200 and two mods. This was a out of the box package from a single vendor containing only 2 parts, an exhaust and tuner. This can be installed in the driveway in about 2 hours with regular tools. For comparison, $1200 gets you an intake and exhaust on a GTO, worth about 35-40hp.

  • @eb1zzle personally i own two mustangs so i cant tell you from experience, all the things i pick up about imports is from my buddy, he had an STi and now he drives a 350whp EVO VIII, as he tells me, so my bad if what i said was misinformed

  • @ADD8oi: you are excused =P. Just trying to dispel the myth that subys are hard to work on and modify. The reality is quite to the contrary, they are modular, overbuilt and under-tuned from the factory. And while I don't mean to bash the GTO or the EVO, which are both quite worthy with their own loyal followings - I loved the STI. Its the only import that I ever considered a match for American muscle and its modular, uncomplicated design.

  • @eb1zzle thanks for clearing that up haha, in all honesty though, from my experience the mustang was the easiest vehicle to work on to get quick power from a simple home garage, most of the competing muscle cars are just too much packed under the hood, but all legitimate performance cars have my respect, American or not

  • GTO all the way. the only thing saving the STi from being a stock ricer is its turbo. there are so many aftermarket applications you can do to the GTO that are cheap and easy but add ALOT of horses. with the STi everything is already there so its maxed out with horses unless you want to spend another 6 grand for a larger turbo. oh and on the whole 'its made an aussie so its not american' thing. that engine, the thing that makes a muscle car, was made in america. GTO still american muscle.

  • already comes with exhaust, putting on a new one MIGHT add 2 whp. a new intercooler would add ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, tune may add 15 whp even though they are already tuned to a very good level. you full of shit. this car already comes with all the basic bolt on parts and adding different ones is useless unless you enjoy spending over 2 grand for 15 horses. do some basic research on these cars then come tell me the only way to make them significantly quicker is a larger turbo.

    full exhaust = +35 awhp

    FMIC = +20 awhp

    full intake = +20 awhp

    tune = +40ish awhp

    Those are my power gains on my stock turbo'd mitsu evolution.

Stock, the GTO puts less than 350RWHP down, even at a 100WHP gain, you wouldn't be at or very close to 500WHP.

    Oh, and you're also a moron with your logic regarding the STi. With a stock FI system, modding small parts in the FI system will warrant big power gains. That's why Cobra's > GTO's with mods.

  • i know enough about both to know they will both get walked from a roll, dig, ect. even the STi with its awd may keep up to 60 but as soon as i hit 3rd its all over. and good god you seriously are just in denial with the auto trannys losing more power to the wheels. manual loses anywhere between 10-15% of their power from the crank whereas autos lose anywhere between 15-25% of their power. just fucking google it dipfuck or go to your little forum and ask someone. this just proves your ignorance.

  • Both will get walked? YOU'RE the one in denial if you think you will walk a Cobra from a dig OR roll. They are lighter, underrated for power, and can fit much bigger tires. They also mod MUCH better. If you think differently then your wrong. They are closely matched but the Cobra without a doubt edges out the GTO.

    The logic of using youtube vids to prove your point is laughable at best. Try actually going to a track night during a GTO meet. There is no denying.

  • Just listen to your logic. An STi, which is MUCH lighter and has AWD is only going to "keep up" with you to 60? More like you will be keeping up with it. The GTO will walk an STi but it will have to catch up, it will get taken out of the hole nearly if not every time. You're just some little fanboy kid who thinks his car is the best thing trolling the road. I obviously favor the GTO, but it will only edge out the STi, and the Cobra will edge out the GTO assuming stock and all else equal.

  • my street tires are not stock tires, dumbass. i have bridgestone eagle F1s. on. get them warmed up and sticky and i could easily do 4 secs flat. to make it more simple, my best 1/4 mile time is 11.7 with 10 inch eagle f1 tires on.
