  • Hydro is far better 24hr a day.

  • WHy the scary music in the background?

  • no melt down

  • Solar is the way of the future for the next hundreds of years.

  • Would these work well in a desert? Could such grids create employment in places such as Egypt? Would that offer employment and a sustainable income to help fund their freedom? Please share your thoughts too.

  • hallo günther

  • Just to calm everyone down a bit, this farmer used to grow grapes there for wine and is now collecting solar powered electricity, his choice.

  • wasn't the biggest one in Portugal...I think this is a old information

  • Now that's massive! Way to go Solar!

  • Why not build these in the desert? Some deserts have no inhabitants or wild life.

    E-T

  • @etellurian funny right? germany isn't known for being the sunniest country. the german government sponsors everyone who produces solar electricity. you are guaranteed a certain price for the electricity you produce for the next 20 years. this works out to about 10% yield on the money invested. now that money has to come from somewhere. it is added to the cost of electricity. so the whole population has to pay for people building solar installations.

  • why not just build our PV towers up about five miles up, It would end solar sprawl which is a waste just like urban sprawl! We must produce PV panels that are 1 KW per panel, that would make them cost efficient, even if you were to put them on top of house, because if you have 3 to 5 on your roof you could power your whole house, and use any extra energy to produce hydrogen gas for the times when the sun is down, and when the wind does not blow if you have wind-turbines to power your home

  • da war ich. auf zeltlager.bin heute wieder gekommen ;)

  • csiegert83

Maybe you could make a note of where the farm is so you never stumble onto it and become offended by it. That way folks can benefit from all that lovely electricity and you can enjoy a fantastic, long walk in a place where there are nice green fields. That's what I do, also avoiding abattoirs, gay clubs, musicals and Auschwitz wherever possible. Rather than suggesting they move elsewhere and come over a bit, you know.....

  • juhu wir wohnen in arnstein

  • Certainly a lot more beautiful then a mercury spewing coal fired plant!

  • @csiegert83 The land owner used to grow grapes for wine there and decided to go solar, that is his decission.

  • @videosphere Although I congratulate the farmer for going green, the OP is correct, I'm afraid, though perhaps not for the right reasons.

Arable land on this planet is precious. There are few enough places in the world where things will grow well, and we cant afford to waste them as the world's population continues to increase. This farm would be much better served in an arid, non-arable place where the land is unsuitable for anything else.

  • @csiegert83: I guess you prefer having a nuclear power plant like the one from Chernobyl right next to your door, huh?

However, I do agree with your point that does not look beautiful. But instead of putting them all in the desert why not put them on suitable roofs instead? This would be much more effective and less space consuming in the mid term ;) Unfortunately people still don't see the importance of being environmentally responsible -____-

  • @csiegert83 the only thing that makes a field look like shit is my shit because i take big shits

  • @csiegert83 the solar panels will create cover for animals. This could in fact be beneficial

  • @csiegert83 you're a dickhead, wind turbines have nothing on solar power's efficiency and aesthetics.

  • @csiegert83 wind turbines kill arround 500 birds per year, and you need a professional to build them

  • @5T34LTHcamoT4NK Did you count them all?

  • @csiegert83 no theres actually WAY more.... but for one turbine field thats a average(a big one on land), solar pannels dont take much environment out, allot of insects will actually still life there, just like a turbine farm, but they dont "kill" birds, some birds actually learn to survive in urban territory

but its not like if it was a forest before, it was a field with no trees(growing something)

  • That is a lot of glass to keep clean

  • i wonder how many kwh its making

  • I converted my home to a net-zero solar powered home and made video about it called,"Preparing for peak oil"...

  • Maybe it used to be the biggest but not anymore. The biggest is now located in Portugal (Moura, Amareleja) and has peak capacity of 46 MW - and that's just after completion of phase 1 as phase 2 will make it even bigger.

The companies involved are mainly German and they are producing pannels locally.

  • The solar industry of Germany is subsidized with billions of tax money every year. This is planned economy of the worst kind. As soon as solar energy is cost-effective, it will be made mainly in Asia, where most of the semiconductor industries reside. And till then Germany will have wasted a lot of money, thanks to their retarded Green party and their ingenious socialists.

  • Yeah, but don't forget it is money well spent - one of the only reasons the Greens are being heard is 'Energy Security' . The oil is primarily coming from one area Saudi Arabia - and every year they say they have the same amount of oil.

On top of this is the belief in Islamic Jihad - USA sent $700 bn/ yr to Saudis.

But the solar panel money and money for oil that would have been used - stays in Germany for 20 yrs. until the panels need to be replaced or new technology comes along.

  • And just who is going to figure out how to make solar panels cost-effective exactly? Just Asia? Doubt it, more than likely a nice piece of the billions of "wasted" dollars on solar panels in Germany are being used to develop the very same cost-effective solar panels to mainly be made in Asia by companies based in countries like Germany, who will then have to pay more taxes as their profits rise.

And besides, sounds silly, but it's the thought that counts.

  • it takes 40 years to cover the installation cost

  • Google now covers all its energy cost at its headquarters with solar panels - and after 8 years or so - their energy will be completely free !!

In the US some home owners who brought their new build homes with solar panels attached - have monthly electric bills of $5 !!

The energy that's created during the day feeds into the local power grid - then the home owner takes the energy back from the grid at night.

In Germany home owners with solar panels get paid for the surplus.

  • The new solar planets actually continue to generate electricity at night. That is because they trap heat, which turns water into steam, which in then turns a turbine to produce electricity. Granted, there is less production at night, but it still makes some energy. The bes example is Nevada's Solar One plant.

  • Solar fields are only needed to power cities where there is so many tall buildings, whith small roofs. In towns and villages, or people that have their own houses they can simply put the solar panels on the roofs, which will provide the energy for the house.

  • They have electric cars now with solar roofs, pretty soon we'll have solar houses, garages, with sunlight charging our cars, complete freedom!!! Thats if the Waffen HOA (home owners ass-ociation) dosen't fuck it up for everyone for "not having pretty roofs"!!

  • @NeoAltPower Dont forget the little windmills!

  • how do u build this??? where do i start? the license, land, panels???

  • This used to be the largest solar power plant!!!

  • That is not important at this point abd it is good to seee more and larger.

  • i hope MALAYSIA have this amin.

  • THE FUTURE IS ELECRIC !!!

  • it won't be for long, a nevada usa company recently announced to make an even bigger one out here in the mojave desert.

  • The plant in Nevada will be using advanced solar panals that produce 2000x more power than these standard panals.

  • theoretical maximum is 1kW per square meter. this panels produce around 20% of that. solar panels on space station produce ~80% of that. so to produce 2000x more power is impossible in any way.

  • Like i said, more than "standard" panals.

  • thevoiceofreason02

    No you said 2,000 times

The real question what is the REAL cost of the power from this plant? And what happens at night or cloud cover?

  • yea...thasts never gonna happen.. department of energy...i know i was syked too..i was watching it's death in congress. they were arguine about the land use...and said they wouls take 2 years to take a "study."

  • Oil will be gone by mid century, we better get our shit in order otherwise the world will fall dark. The ITER will show us the way, that and industrial adaption of clean energy. Fusion, solar, wind and geothermal. That's the way of the future.

  • believe me, you have to find your own way. have a dollar? then you vote for what you want, with your dollars...

  • It's the small minority of the global population whom control the "dollars" that need be convinced to wise up and think about the future, considering that they are trying so hard to control it you would think that sustainable resources would be a priority. We find ourselves at a remarkable stage of history, a turning point, many great changes to come to pass and many very soon. I can only hope that common sense and logic prevail, what's left of it anyway. ;)

  • The United states has the Californian Nevada and Arizonan deserts.. They could install a crap load of these fields and generate ENERGY...

  • yeah, but in this case the oil industry and oil industry lobbyists would be disappointed.

  • Smart people!

  • Haha

  • The noise is annoying.

  • Here in Greece they use extensively the term "idiotic" maybe because they don't know any better!( red tape and never-ending bureaucracy make it impossible for any small investor to think to start any of this, not to mention the starting costs...

  • really?? thats strange. Here in Germany solar energy in actually supported by the government. there are new solar panel installations appearing on roofs everywhere here now. Many produce much more that the household really uses so the extra is sold to the network so those solar owners actually make money with that.

  • we need to end the fossil fuel addiction and makes the saudis go back to the stone ages

  • theoneagain.. do u dislike the Saudis? I mean if its just plain jealousy that we get to sit back and watch your oil prices go up making us rich. Thats not bad. . long live oil.

PS believe me even if oil was not used anymore, Saudis have saved up enough money... so buzz off

  • they show off and that pisses me off while everyone else rots in hell so you buzz off

they nedd a good old sunami to wipe them out

    hope it happens

  • lol. sunami??... now lets seriously Saudis arent that rich some yes but not all. in fact 30% percent of the population are poor. so we "rot" too. anyways no hard feelings :)

  • since when is it wrong to make money on selling goods others want to buy? Are you attacking your bakery because they ask a price for the bread?

Its on us to decide if we wanna keep buying oil products or search for other options. And the saudis are smart businessmen. they see the signs and build a whole new tourism world at their beaches. oil is history for them already.

  • If the bakery were keeping me from buying every other type of food, I would absolutely attack them. Yes, it's up to us to demand alternatives, but it's not as easy as just not buying oil products. They run much more than just a local storefront.

  • @danielkoepf If the saudis were smart then along with their other cousins they should be producing solar energy since most of them have nothing but plenty of sunshine and sand, apart from the luckier ones who still have rapidly declining oil reserve. It seems the world is not always governed by logic.

  • Germany does rule! I would love to see this everywhere.

  • YEAH! Thank You!!! ;-)

  • uh ya we have some like that in US buddy lololol

  • Not to this degree though, our government would rather spend our money elsewhere. As of right now our priorities are not straight, I believe things will get better. Have a good day!

  • des is in erlasee... das liegt ca. 2 km neben meinem kaff... und 2 km in die andere richtung kommt man auf den truppenübungsplatz hammelburg^^

  • this looks like a good comment, something about 2km? could someone please translate into english for me please? does it supply power for that radius? or perhaps Replica lives close to this place?

  • Replica said:

This is in Erlasee. Round about 2Km in the opposite direction you are getting to the army training range "Hammelburg".

  • Thank you metatwingo. Right near a training range, interesting. It's been awhile since I saw this video. Still inspirational

  • Welcome! :)

  • Bigg!!! exist a big solar field also in Portugal- In "Serpa" and in "Amareleija"

    Big ones!! really!!

  • kooool!!! install all that in my country no more stupid fossil fuel!!

  • Germany rules!

    Solar Power!

    Peace!

  • Germany does rule! We can learn so much from them.

  • Germany, Japan, & France ain't doin' so bad either...., xxoos, -K

  • You could get that close. Did you have to hop a fence or something?

  • Dude, the music you set this to makes it almost unwatchable, but thanks for sharing.

  • Every city in America should have a solar field like this and or larger....

  • Solar panels are extremely expensive, and take up way too much space, i think they should make solar panel shingles. The space is already being taken up by houses. The shingles are high off the ground so few things can block the sun from them and the angle of a house rooftop catches all of a day's sun.

  • Wow that looks great!. I knew our Marshall Plan money would be put to good use.

  • Yeah and isn't funny, the next marshall help will go to the US and the Bush administration is exactly as the former german rule :)

  • Looks like it could be good pasture too.

  • Right On Sparky!!! Forget the grid, do it yourself!

  • The biggest one is actually located in Kazakhstan - formerly part of Soviet Union. It was built in Soviet times and was just one of the many huge projects of Soviet government. That installation actually produces energy till now. It's also located in desert

  • not true in California Mojave desert near Edwards air force base there are several that dwarf this.

  • I think they are not photo-voltaic, but solar-thermic installations!

  • What an eerie atmosphere you created with the music/images!!! Sounds like the sun rays themselves are playing!!

  • lol
