When I was a kid (early- to mid-1960s), the brown plastic potato-shaped thing served ONLY to hold the pieces when you bought it or when you put it away. When you PLAYED Mr Potato Head, you were supposed to use REAL POTATOES!! What happened!? Is it 'cause I live next door to Idaho and potatoes often cost less than a dollar for a ten pound bag?
