I think as long as people can understand the point of view the music is coming from, they can be considered a fan. Ignorance is one of the biggest factors in punks being seen as what they are. I mean, I'm white middle class, but I still love punk and hip hop. I've never been poor or lived in the ghetto, but my ancestors were and my current social status doesn't mean I cannot support a movement. The real enemy is ignorance, and any person regardless of wealth or race can be ignorant.
