Charge time is an issue. In my car or truck 5 minutes and I am full. I run ant 100% to the last drop. Trading out batteries is more than a format issue. Batteries have a life span. If I buy a new car with a new battery and go to the swap out station I will end up with some old battery that will no longer have the range of my new one.
Consumer reports put out a studdy on the most economical cars to own. The top car was the Scion XB. A car that runs on gasoline.
@RealityCheck05 Good point. I just added another video as a video response that I shot with Tesla that focuses more on their cars. It's called "In the workshop of the car company of the future".
i think this is a bad idea i don't need a 62 year old man DRIVING THREW MY HOUSE ALL LIKE EXCUSE ME SONNIE MIND IF I CHARGE UP?! HELL NO U CAN'T CHARGE UP GTFO! lol
What's the point of electric vehicles? Don't power station burn the same amount of coal/oil/fossil fuel to produce electricity? Correct me if I'm wrong.
1:04 she is wrong, I charge my laptop, and use the drier, or the vacuum at home...btw I live at the 10th floor of an apartment building... I can't charge my car from my house, so when she said there are more than 1 billion outlets, and you can use any of them... she is talking shit, and the revolutionary fast chargers destroy the battery every time you plug your car in... basically you can only travel to destination within half the range of the battery... I'll wait for the hydrogen powered cars
Tesla's spokesperson is a bit condescending. Laptops and hairdriers are not Tesla's. Are you going to carry a 100ft extension cord to Stabucks to charge your Tesla for 8 hours while you get free WiFi
I know someone has designed a removable battery pack for EV, so you could get them swapped out at gas stations. Just like you swap out propane tanks at the store. The car companies just can't decide on a standard.
@pahwraith I believe you're thinking about Project Better Place. They're starting out in Israel, Denmark & Hawaii, but hope to become an option worldwide. But as you mention, if there's no standard battery, then it will be difficult. They also need standard components and interfaces, specifically the connector interfaces between the car, battery, communications network, and battery cooling system. The European Commission has approved a project to help create a standard for switchable batteries.
I think will buy there stock.Amazing EV i wished they had a van you can see me on my channel doing my stock business in my van i am ready for the tesla van when is that coming.
@lifehackertips I thought the same thing when I spotted this car while on a walk. So I took out my pocket camera and shot it. Had to laugh at the powerstrip under the car. Definitely the most makeshift charging station I've ever seen.
@lifehackertips I suppose technically it's an NEV- neighborhood electric vehicle- since he can't go over 35mph. Though they have a 2nd car so this one works fine for all their trips around town. And they use it as a car. It even has doors that pop on for wintertime. Did another video with them here: youtube . com/watch?v=HyRGuoZTQog They're my parents' neighbors and I happened to catch them out on a drive one day and asked if I could film them.
@kirstendirksen The youtube video you linked says "golf cart as a second car" on it like I said.
According to wikipedia a golf cart is a EV (anything with a electric motor is) but if you google "EV vehicle" you can see the top links like evworld.com or ev.com refer to EV as electric cars not golf carts. So calling a person that owns a golf cart a "EV Owner" is misleading, otherwise every 5 yr old with a Barbie Powerwheels is a "EV Owner" and my grandma's hoveround qualifies too.
@lifehackertips I use the term golf cart since it makes for an easy title, but it's not literally a golf cart. It's actually a GEM car, really within the NEV range of vehicles. I will call it a vehicle if you'd prefer.
@kirstendirksen You can call it a car or a truck or blue whale if you want, but everyone sees a golf cart, not an electric vehicle, according to ev.com, evworld.com, and every EV website I can find.
and you'll be adding that inefficiency to our power generation causing power companies to burn even more fossil fuels to keep up with the demand....and what's worse? Lot's of people will lose jobs as a result of this transition. I believe we need to look out for the environment more than anything else.....this is definitely NOT how to do it.
The electric car at a glance looks like an amazing thing... What's unfortunate about it is that it dupes people into believing that it's better for the environment because they're not the ones doing the damage anymore. However electric cars are worse than gasoline by far. The biggest contributer to greenhouse gases in the USA is in power generation, it's terribly inefficient. Currently EV's are terribly inefficient, the batteries aren't that good yet, the motors are worse....continued above
That first electric car is a real chick magnet. LOL. If I wanted to become a monk I'd buy that car. Of course it would make a nice combo with my lifted 4wd dodge diesel pickup. My commute is only 18 miles round trip. Problem is I can't charge it at home. My condo doesn't have the plugs.
Plus all my debts are paid off, no mortgage, no car payments, no nothing! I don't want to go back into debt, not even for an electric car.
@92208330 The idea is that any style of power plants will produce electricity at a higher efficiency than individual engines. And, the available power in th USA is promoted by the former governmental views to use fossil fuels. I'm sure the company is using there capital for R & D instead of upgrading the facility photo-voltaic power. Stop hate'in and join the movement !!!
There is an infrastructure problem, because I can't park my car in my apartment. There are no plugs next to public parking spaces. Yes infrastructure will have to change for this to be practical. I don't see plug-ins at my works parking lot, or at any other parking lots. What if you have more than one car, the electric will always have to park in the garage. (If you have a garage). This may be possible with like a roll out battery bank, odd are someone will steal it though.
I really wish our country (which is far behind in the alternative energy/fuel field) would focus on better - more natural fuel sources. A company called MDI created an engine that runs on compressed air. We could perfect and refine this to get us completely off of the "grid" system. It is even imaginable that one day, a motor could be perfected to not only run on compressed air, but also be able using a small electric motor to recharge itself.
As soon as they make a electric mini van ill get an electric car. Why do green companies have something against large families? In the long run we use less and recycle more.
Tesla has a 7 seater EV, the Model S, coming out in 2012. Toyota has a 7 and an 8 seater, the Innova, but I don't think it's available in the U.S.
One of the issues with larger cars with EVs is the battery power and range. As the car becomes heavier, the battery works harder and less range. Nothing against large families.
@nagaempress Minivan? They barely make electric mini cars let alone a mini van. The real limiting issue right now is battery technology. IMO a better technology is hydrogen powered cars as you can generate the hydrogen using a wind or solar generator and store enough of it to make e.g., a cross country trip feasible. Imagine every hour having to stop for 15-30 minutes to get a level 3 charge to go another 50 miles.
@mmr11027 There are alot of things that my family does to be green and in talking to some parents with one child we do things to save money which can be translate into being green. Growing our own food, , clothing reuse, we don't eat out as often, and we conserve light and water. When you have more people you have to be more careful and mindful of what you are doing.
@nagaempress It's great that your whole family is involved in the green process. When kids are raised to be mindful of such things, they are also more able to make good decisions. I was raised in such an environment and my ability to plan ahead and anticipate has been useful to me personally and professionally. Best wishes.

You don't have to sacrifice performance with their roadster either. 0-60mph in less than 4 sec. I can't believe they didn't mention that...
"Conventional" cars with that kind of acceleration cost even more up front.
For daily driving or commuting, that thing is as sweet a deal as it is a ride.
