And in fact the irish are genetically indistinguishable from the scots, english, welsh, and other northern europeans.

Anyway, I agree that culturally, I'm American. Even though my family was all based on Irish culture, I've grown up in America therefore am culturally American. Not being from the States, you might not get where we are coming from. We take pride in America but also take pride in our heritage. Our families came here and brought their culture with them. Irish culture does not only exist in Ireland.

Well, I have Irish genes and I live in an Irish culture. And when I say "Irish-Americans" I'm reffering to people of Irish heritage born in America. Also my mother is half Irish and half Cajun. I am indifferent to having Cajun blood in me, as I live in an Irish neighborhood. People dont see me as a "Cajun" They see me as Irish American because I live in an Irish culture and neighborhood and my genetic makeup is mostly Irish. And being Irish, no one really cares if you are Irish or not.
