@DeShonDixonHD ...continued from post below... also, regarding cameras, I'd recommend reading Philip Bloom's blog (if you haven't already) and spending some time at DVinfo and DVXuser.
@DeShonDixonHD The 14-42 and the 135 are totally different tools, used in totally different situations. I wouldn't feel comfortable saying one was my favourite over the other (and I don't think I've used the 14-42 either).
Regarding low-light: you can tell which lens will attenuate the least amount of light by looking at the widest f-stop the lens is capable of. An f2.8 lens will let through more light than an f4 lens. If you haven't seen it then I'd recommend WikiPedia's article F-numbers
@DeShonDixonHD Er. I quite like both lenses but I wouldn't say they're my favourites (I'd say my 28mm is my favourite). I had to use the 85 and 135 because I was about 15meters from the stage and I wanted a midshot of the performers on the stage. The physics of the situation dictated the choice of lens.
@DeShonDixonHD Hmm... that would have been either the 85 or the 135. I was about 15 meters from the stage at the time. Remember than the GH1 (which I was shooting on) has a crop factor of something like a 1.8x (if I remember correctly).
@DeShonDixonHD I would have liked to help but I'm afraid my camera and lenses are currently on loan to a colleague who's shooting a documentary abroad for the next few months so I won't be able to do a test. And I'm afraid I'm not sure if the shot at 3:55 was shot on the 85 or the 135; it was shot quite a while ago.
Could you hire a lens from your local rental house to test it? Or buy from eBay and then re-sell if you don't like it?
@DeShonDixonHD Ah, yes, I see the shot you mean. If I remember correctly, that shot was on my Nikon 85mm f1.8 or possibly even the 135mm f2.8. They're both really old Nikon lenses I bought from eBay for about £60 each. They're both pretty soft (especially the 135) but they're fine for web videos. I was using the Red Rock Micro "StuBling" camera support and follow focus, mounted on a tripod with fluid head.
The Warwick Wingding returns in 2010! On Sat 25 Sept between 12-8pm in Warwick Gardens off Lyndhurst Way, PeckHAM, SE15. For this year's line-up see the Warwick Wingding Facebook. It'll be friendly, fun and FREE (entry) - with delicious food plus The Ivy House Beer and Talent Tent (if you're a comedian, poet, or spoken word artist we want to hear from you!). Lots of lovely stalls, children's activities and some gentle yoga! Hope you can come!
@BenHughesStudios Hey. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! I used mostly old Nikon prime lenses (really quite old ones I've bought from eBay for about £50 a pop. No auto focus. The lenses were (all Nikkors):
28mm f2.8
50mm f1.4
85mm f1.8
135mm f2.8
I used a variND a bit but it didn't flare nicely
I also used the GH1's kit lens for a few shots. The steadicam was a B-Hague Maxi Motion Stabiliser.

This was such a positive day. A beautiful peaceful vibe. All the bands gave their time for free. Thanks guys! Who says that you don't get anything for free these days. Wonderfully captured by Jack.
@ 1:55 I have never heard that Zoo Kid song before!

@DeShonDixonHD Please tell me the exact time code of the shot you're interested in and I'll do my best to remember which lens I used.

Where can I find that guitar music at the start ? and is it really being played on a Gibson L-00 ?
Gibsonloo 1 year ago
@Gibsonloo The guitar music played at the beginning of the film was performed by "DR. KING".

what kind of steadycam did you use?
And what lenses did you use? Thanks!

My favorite all time Lime Headed Dog Gig. Who would have thought they could be children's light entertainers.

Looks nice - that day was my birthday, and I live in Peckham. I wish I had gone...

I thought Peckham was well hard??? i think this dispels the myth.
A great day, that has been beautifully documented. Well done Jack!

A lovely little festival, beautifully shot. My question is this: as a resident of Peckham, how did I not get to hear about this event?

This is absolutely gorgeous! Fantastic editing. Makes me feel proud to live in Peckham.
