I dont know if i heard you right buti think you said yours is jailbroken and you are going to jail break your friends one, jail breaking slows it down alot.
the 8GB has more pages + more applications then 16GB maybe even one of them have a runing process... try do this sync them with same computer same app everything! turn them off and on and then test same things
