idk why so much people hate on george. i'm from a dojo in hawaii whose sempais were huge rivals of georges sempais. i've heard a lot of things about their dojo. but i take it w/a grain of salt because i actually fought him before i knew how good he was lol... actually, my first time ever competing as an adult i fought him as my 1st match. he hits hard and is really fast! i'm not from his dojo but i've talked to him on the side and he offered advice and tips when asked, very humble and helpful
Funny how there is no video of George Kotaka and John Fonseca at AAU Finals years ago...when George kotaka was knock out, and his dad made the referees give out 2 gold medals that year. Joke..cough...cough
George Kotaka is NOTHING compared to Lyoto Machida!! Plus, Machida was competing in the SKIF world championships---much tougher and larger than WKF! Kotaka was only in karate for medals!!!! No referee is going to let him lose when his daddy is in stands, yeah he is good but a lot of people were ripped off because of him!
@shotokanslammer1 you gotta give credit where credit is due - this guy worked hard where he had to be and he earned his place. if you want to say that he got some calls on his side, maybe that was just his luck. jordan didnt get called for a foul when he obviously bryon russel in that utah jazz game that won him the 6th championship for the bulls but thats why hes jordan and thats why kotaka is kotaka.
Look dude, I trained with George, Elisa, Gino, and Milee when they were all top notch. I've been to the worlds plenty of times coming home with medals. The only thing George had to do...was to show up.
@shotokanslammer1 Sounds like somebody is a little jealous and a bit of a liar. If you were some kind of world contender you'd have better things to do than criticize a nice guy who's a world champion when your character could use some reflection and your resume could use a little padding before challenging someone who's obviously more successful.
@lukkiop sounds like you just started karate! It is obvious that you have not been competing that much since you have no idea what kind of politics surround him and IKF or karate in general. Don't get butt hurt because of my opinion, which is the same as most people in the sport. It has nothing to do with George as a person, (i like him). The fact is that his father influenced the many, many fights that he had at the nationals and worlds. When you make yellow belt, go ahead and write back.
@shotokanslammer1 Eh, you might be right. I've never competed in an IKF tournament and have only run into the Kotaka's a few times at competitions. My sensei has talked about there being a lot of bias at the all-hawaii international championships since the late 80's and early 90's and it's possible that Chuzo could've pulled some strings at the national level but I doubt it would happen internationally. I think George worked hard and earned his gold and there's something to be said abouthardwork
@shotokanslammer1 You know Ive been reading your post and it seems to me you are not a Karate guy. If you were youd be alot more respectful. The WKF produces amazing athletes in the Karate world, and I have seen many of them fight in person and competed with them as well. Stop disprecting everybody, if you are a competitor or whatever organization you claim you are you have nothing to show for that because of your comments to other Karateka. Learn Some respect! You commenting here shows it.
@shotojojo1986 First of all I just stated my political opinion about a very talented athlete. I never said anything derogatory about his abilities--I trained with him for several years. I'm talking about the politics of the sport. Frankly you are an idiot if you think that the majority of karateka are respectful?haha! Thanks for the laugh! There is a reason why karate is not in the Olympics--cut-throat politics. GO BACK TO WATCHING THE SPORT on the SIDE LINES. Thank you!
@shotokanslammer1 You know I want to disagree with you there but I can't. I've met alot of asshole instructors that don't know the ass to there face and their abilities are just as bad as Karateka. Yeah the politics in Karate is bad. It really is about ego. Your name makes sense now, Im guessing Shito-Ryu right? Love to compete so no side lines for me,unlike yourself I am hopeful of Karate becoming an Olympic sport. Easy on the insults, were all on the same team here. I totally miss read, my bad
I don't know what you guyz learning overthere in the mainland but welcome to Hawaii. Elisa and George are both students from Sensei Kotaka, George Kotaka's Father who is the founder of Shito-Ryu just wanted for let you all know okay haha alohaz
@RamUmHard808, Chuzo Kotaka is the founder of Kotaka-ha shito-ryu you dumbass! Kenwa Mabuni is the founder of Shito-Ryu. Kotaka made up his own style and katas. It isn't even considered a traditional style!! You IKF people are idiots if you think that!!!!
There are lots of dudes that practice it only for medals, but don't forget there're also lots of dudes practicing it for other objetives. So, this is not "karate for medals", this is karate. The reason of practicing it depends of each person.
I've practiced karate during 7 years and I don't mind the medals and that stuff.
sensei george must be really young in this vid. For he jumps a LOT higher and is a hell of a lot faster now...
But he's still an incredibly humble guy. Heck, on Sat classes he likes to chat and make conversation. But when we start, he goes straight into Karate mode. It's kinda scary actually...but he is a sensei. and sensei's have to be strict, humble, and disciplined. GO GEORGE! 2 golds & an outstanding award @ '08 AAU/USA NATIONALS!!!!! IKF! IKF!

you train with gloves, obviously your hands and feet are not conditioned for breaking, you need to use the Makiwara. I do not train in Goju ryu just for sport but for one death blow trainning only, we do not use gloves!!!
Breaking is not that great as everyone makes it out to be. If you think about it and do it, it's not that hard to break something...when you have good basics which IKF stresses on. I know because I train with them. His speed, power, grace, flow and HUMBLE attitude is not like anything else around and that is how he became so great.
I grew up with George and I can't believe how fast he still is..... I'm glad i ran across this vid of him because he's so humble he would never mention it to his boys.
is thier any of his dojo in north california? or do u have a link for it? im a shotokan i wanted to learn more new things now i love kata soo much im still struck in unsu kata so i decide to try either shito-ryu or goju-ryu i know basic the same
Umm there is a IKF dojo in sacramento. It's run by sensei john limcaco i believe, who was sensei george's sensei. also i think there's is fonseca martial arts in Illonios with sensei john limcaco and sensei elisa au-fonseca.
George Kotaka should have won more championships than his record reflects. Sometimes he had to fight the referees too. He is one of the United State's best ever and will go down as a legend....
We should only hope to be graced with more performances... Good luck in all future endeavors.
dude...i know sensei george 2! he's like my instuctor 4 saturdays classes...he's not boring...he just has 2 look professional when doing these kinds of things, but he's a really cool instructor and knows a lot about fighting techniques and drills
Seems like he has a good training system and does a good job with it.
