  • It's a bird! it's a plane... no it's the 1999 mclaren driven by the master himself!!!

  • The flying finn<3 best forever:))) big like

  • Nice start, Amazing, Mika you are my hero,

  • I remember how I hated these cars back in the days because they were so "high-tech". Now seeing the modern cars I wish we could have these again... And actually same applies to rallying and road cars too. Older = better.

  • What a demon start from Hakkinen!

  • Amazing!

  • I fondly remember getting up at like 5am to see this race, my dad thought I was crazy but I just had to see if Mika would take the title or not.

And boy did he ever, he took the title in style. He fucked everybody that day.

It was so nice to see, and it's a great memory for me.

  • @jockejocke1 i love how basic the steering wheels used to be back in the day! and yes Mika with a ferrari like reliable McLaren would have won many more titels i believe.

  • such smoooth driving!

  • Schumacher used his dirty tricks again trying to push Hakkinen towards the grass. But Hakkinen was too fast, Schumacher almost pushed himself towards the grass.

  • i think schumi's poor start was deliberate ! he didn't wand Irvine as a world champion !

  • @raphaelchekroun Schumacher's start was not poor. It was normal and quite good compared to the other drivers, besides Mika of course. I'm not dissing Schumi, but his starts were never his strongest point (though not bad either), even though he was great in other areas. But Mika's starts were a lot of the time exceptional.

  • @F1Chief1966 bernie only can see money... :(

  • wow. This engine is so quite at low revs

  • what a start!

  • 1 Dislike from Schumi

  • @Blackened007 More like 1 dislike from Eddie ;)

  • beautiful natural car control in the old days, pure v10 power control and little aero

  • That steering wheel is so hot! :o

  • @f1dannn But he stays in 2nd ;)

  • @f1dannn Look at the small picture in the screen. It wasn't that bad. It's more like Mika had a stunning getaway.

  • You've just watched the finest F1 start, under pressure of a championship, in history...By the first corner, Hakkinen was at least 50 metres ahead of Schumacher...

  • bring back those v10 engines with that beautiful sound and get rid of those v6 2.4 liter turbocharged engines wich they're going to use in 2012 i believe..

  • häkkinen is the best starter of all tiem

  • Mika Hakinenn a legend.

  • Suprised Schumacher didn't push him off at the start...oh, that's right, he wasn't fighting for the championship;_))

  • haha look at the old steering wheels

they actually look like steering wheels

today they look like a you could control a whole spaceshit with it :)

  • @kommdochinmeinenstaa spaceship! but spaceshit also fits when looking at the NASA projects..

  • What is the engine now?

  • @BonakiD24 You dont wanna know.

  • @F12011cm V8?

  • @BonakiD24 Today's mclaren engine (with accordance of the FIA regulations): Mercedes-Benz FO 108Y 2.4L (146 cu in) V8 (90°). Naturally-aspirated, 18,000 RPM limited with KERS, mid-mounted. Horsepower is not disclosed ------- The 1999 car was using this: 3.0L Mercedes FO110H 72° V10, naturally aspirated, mid-mounted. HP: 800 bhp / 589 kW @ 17,100 rpm

  • @BonakiD24 Please, dont remind me.

  • I miss the old 130R.

  • This is one of the most exciting moments in F1 history.

  • Damon Hill:s last race :(

  • that was good i notice that this race track is in gt5 the game as well and wow it is real just like gt5.

  • what a start he got no wonder they love the v10 engine so much power

  • Aah, good old times....

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • senna,,,,,hakkinen and hamilton are mclaren's best drivers

  • how was schumacher still second after such a shit start? hes still lucky even when he does badly, mika was a dot in the distance by the first corner

  • @TuneViper It wasn't so much that Schumacher got a terrible start, more that Hakkinen had an amazing start. Hakkinen had many brilliant starts, this was one of his best.

  • Seems very smooth and kinda slow (relatively), he doesn't attack the final chicane at all. Would this be because it's the first lap and the tyres need to be warmed up? I'm not being critical in any way, I'm simply intrigued and curious.

  • @Boxyno1 The grooved tyres do take a while to warm up, but he's just super smooth as the downforce levels are pretty high so no need to fight the car round. The engine's also very quiet on throttle off, which can be deceptive

  • These cars just flowed so nicely, it sounds like those V10s are being fuelled on double cream. I love that moment of silence every time he lifts off for a slow corner and the engine is almost silent.

  • What an acceleration !!

  • WHY schumi dont start well?

  • @ghurghust Shumi start well, but not as Mika does

  • @Blackened007 he look like a very bit late at start

  • I love v10 engine :)

  • is that a v10, v12? sounds awesome

  • @mrchristian87 It's a V10, we haven't seen V12's since 1995 (Ferrari was the last team that used these type of engines)

  • must be dead boring driving by yourself, I'm sure vettle can tell you all about it.

  • What a start by Hakkinen!:)

  • The engine sounds weird at such low revs during the launch...

  • The car is so quiet when braking and decelerating!

  • What an amazing start!!!!!

  • Look at how simple the steering wheel is compared to todays electronical-gizmo-widgetty-button mayhems.

  • The thing is, with the Hakkinen vs. Schumacher-rivalry, it was all about pushing eachother to see who was the best. No politics, no backstabbing, no throwing with mud in the media, no general bond of hatred or friendship between the two of them, just two incredibly fast racers in incredible cars pushing eachother to the limit and beyond. That's why the rivalry was good and why they had so much respect for eachother's abilities, because they considered it to be their equal.

  • what an start!

  • What an amazing start!

  • the good old days when f1 cars actually had to brake going into 130r

  • ale ich pocisnal na starcie

  • please, watch the Legs´ movements in the corners, to the left, to the rigth, is incredible

  • That V10 singing gave me a hard-on.

  • Mika made that lap in an F1 car look stupidly easy!! Not fair! :D

Very smooth and a great controlled start

  • I always liked the late 90's early 2000's mclaren cars, they barely had a wheel it was like a very fast soapbox car with two strings to steer lol. Go mclaren!! Go Hamilton!

  • Mika at his best! Smooth on the throttle (without TC), great start.

  • I miss the old F1.

  • how perfect start that was? : > We miss you Mika!

  • Can anybody tell where I can watch the full race?

  • best looking mclaren f1 car

  • @maurizio864

2008 with the frontwing upgrade was the best looking mclaren car ever

  • ..and can you do same first lap in GT5 =)

  • superb video of Mika's first lap! Thanks for uploading!

  • I think this was the only time Schumacher was happy to be beaten at the start, as he saw Mika Hakkinen go for the championship. He would've freaked out, if Eddie Irvine had become world champion in the Ferrari before him.

  • He has traction control. In his right foot.

    What a driver!

  • @bytiful was there no TC in that car?

  • @Str8representing No, TC was only introduced in Spain 2001.

  • this is the most clean older F1 onboard video...

  • BEST START EVER !!!

  • this is a great driver .... the best

  • Amazing how peaceful the first lap of a race is from onboard the first place car, nothing ahead but the track and no noise but your own... Great launch by Mika, his rivalry with MSC is what got me interested in the sport.

  • @waterpolodan Their rivalry was a hell of a fight, a thing that today's F1 is missing. The last serious F1 rivalry was back in 2006 (MSC vs Alonso) and since then, nothing

  • @Ferariiman

    Alonso Lewis Kimi in 2007

    Lewis Massa 2008

Button Vettel 2009 (maybe not quite but second half Jenson had problems)

2010 .... FOUR drivers in last race with chance for WDC ... first time in over 50 years ... YOU DONT KNOW NOTHING ABOUT F1.

  • @Ferariiman Hamilton and Alonso, Webber and Vettel, there's plenty :P

  • @opo1993 the duel between Hamilton and Alonso had fun when they were both driving for Mclaren, but Ron Dennis cut it out and threw alonso out of the team. Webber and Vettel are funny, crashing into each other and make stupid mistakes. Well that's not a duel, it's more like a circus :P

  • @Ferariiman Yeah I agree with you, Hakkinen and Schumacher had some of the best races that F1 has ever seen. Both teams used everything they had to win, including controversial team orders and aggressive racing styles. Yeah 2006 was great, but it was all pit stop strategy. Everyrace it was about who was gonna leapfrog who, but that year was exciting. 2010 was indeed filled with mistakes and it was circus like. I hope 2011 will bring back classic down to the wire wheel to wheel racing

  • @Ferariiman Alonso threw himself out of the team. Ron wanted him to stay, but he wanted to go.

It's nice seeing Suzuka before it got messed about with

  • @reptongeek Messed about with ? plese tell me how ? :)

  • @Tristan154UK Certain gravel traps got changed to tarmac (Spoon Curve), 130R was re-profiled and so was the Casio Triangle (final corner)

  • @Ferariiman never heard about räikkönen ?

  • @opo1993 Yeah Well u know... if u put me and my little brother in an F1 race, that would be a close race too.. XD XD

  • @opo1993 Rubbish :P :P :P

  • @opo1993 not asserious and competitive though

  • @Ferariiman Maybe this season it could be Vettel and Hamilton

  • @Ferariiman U are nuts, F1 is undergoing another golden era with closer racing and more overtaking in 1 season than a whole decade of the V10 era, we have it so good right now. I'm guessing you are bitter that ferrari are not walking away with it like they used to.

  • quality^^

  • this breaked my heart

  • 完璧なスタートだ。

  • schumacher is a half second to slow at the start...i don`t now why............-)

  • @ANALYST1984

    lol...everybody knows why;-)

  • MORE!!!

  • Olivier Panis started 9th and moved up to 3rd on the first lap and then retiring from 3rd place with a gearbox failure.

  • @18PacWest lol i meant more mika hakkinen
