partied with these guys at joe tripps in pensacola. they played the niceville mullet fest that weekend. Sam bush could smoke you out of weed and play his ass off. bela was quiet and aloof.pat also very nice guy the same with john. I wish they would have stayed together a little longer.
Yes, thank you Bluegrass Library for all of your posts. Date and place would be helpful, and always appreciate your including musicians' names. The boys sure are young here. It just hit me this summer the song about junk., not a choo choo train. Then I learned 'twas Townes. No wonder.
It would be really nice if we could get a date and a credit -- it does look like Austin City Limits; does anyone know when? It's dated 2007, well after the band broke up and stopped looking quite that young.
Answering the comment about the banjo's "tone" -- he has it capo'd at about the 5th fret, that changes the tone somewhat.
@stickfiguregum Yes Bela has become a better musician and I like the music he is doing now, I think he is playing much higher forms of music. My point is his TONE is different. He is using different micing and it really doesn't suit his banjo(s) as well as this setup does. Still sounds good though.
Saw these guys from the very beginning in Louisville Ky.The absolute best New Grass..Bought my son all their records to learn the licks and appreciate the music.
Ahh the many days I would head out hitchhiking with the my son and our dog, backpack the guitar and usually a mini entourage in tow.
Singing this song usually brought us luck in getting a ride.
Wish I could take a trip back in time. Didn't know that despite being poor I was the richest person on earth standing there in the middle of nowhere waiting for destiny to arrive.
This band has an awesome version of Great Balls of Fire. I cant find it anywhere, I heard on the radio once. If anyone has a link to it or anything message me back. Thanks
get their greatest hits cd...its a 2 disk selection...it has a lot of great music....!
Great balls of fire is the second or thrid song on the first disk! You might be able to find it on amazon.....or even itunes if you have an ipod....but its worth buyin
live at the quick is a awesome dvd. Everything about that show is great. not saying that in a rude tone what so ever. I think you maybe need to just watch that maybe 2 or 3 more times then you'll understand it's elements.
Bela is a true innovator on banjo. I can't say I like everything he does, but hey, I did'nt like everything any of my favorite artists did. These 4 guys are top shelf bluegrass artisans. Loved Pat Flynn's guitar work on anything they did.
Sam and Bela are at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival every year and they are both incredible! Scott is usully there, as well, though not as much in demand as Bela and Sam. John Cowan is a favorite of many of the ladies and appears occasionally, as well.
I have always thought that Bela Fleck tries way too hard. I don't think anything he plays sounds worth a damn. What Sam Bush is playing now with Scott Vestal sounds 100 times better than this.
Gee i wonder where scott took most his style from? Keep your negative comments to yourself and stop proving your an idiot and get ready for Bela to win some more grammys
I respect what you have to say, but Bela Fleck is very innovative, if not a genius altogether. What may sound better to you may seem simple and unschooled to many, which is why Bela is cited as such an inspiration to not only the greatest banjo players of today, but also as a jazz master. That being said, I like Scott Vestal, too, but I can't safely compare them.
Bela's just kind of quiet guy, intense while playing. Bela's just gone into the zone, that's why you hear more Vestal. And remember this video is OLD, Bela was just starting to come into his own then. Watch the DVD "Live at the Quick", that may change your mind.
ok i've got live at the quick, and it is absolutely awful. I mean this video here is alright, he still does that stupid head bobbing thing, but the breaks are OK. That b/s live at the quick sounds awful. The only good part of that whole dvd is when victor plays amazing grace on the bass.
