The real ending was BS to begin with, Gwen was the hero and deserved to win, especially when in the other ending Owen beat her in such an unfair and incidental way.

But, what makes this downright tragic now is the fact that if Gwen had won, she wouldn't have accepted the million dollar challenge in the special, TDA and thus TDWT would have never happened, and Gwen would still have her true love, dignity and innocence. I love Owen and all and he did deserve to win but, Gwen has always been 1 of my favorite characters so I kinda wish this wasn't the alternate ending. I love the end with the Trent thing and her going out with him.
