i think its interesting to compare drug free kids who lived before Prozac and haldol with todays psych med inspired kids. its true the audio was experimental.. they didn't know about decibels and hearing response curves.. or maybe they knew but ignored it..

I love the Chantel's version.....had no idea the Shangri-Las did this one too! Wow...gotta hear that. But Janis was the first I ever heard to do this song. This album (Kozmic Blues) was one of the first I ever had. Seems like yesterday....gosh Im gettin up there in age hehe!! But this album means a whole lot to me personally. To a lot of people. I'm from San Francisco and Janis is in my blood, but I gotta say her diva style doesn't seem right for this song. Maybe because I keep hearing The Chantels in my head as she sings. Arline Smith's take on the song is pure heartrending teenaged angst. They are coming from two different worlds, Arline belts it but never goes over the top as Janis does from beginning to end. That's what I like.
