I'm no Auburn fan, but they got hosed on that one. If the players aren't even able to line up on the ball because the referees are unable to get to the ball to re-set it for the next play, then yeah, it might be time for an official time out to see, at the very least, who has possession of it.
For those of you whining that the refs should have stopped the clock to see who recovered the fumble, you are WRONG. Auburn recovered the fumble (as seen from other camera angles). On the clip here, you can see the ref at the top of the screen mark the ball as down because he had a clear view of Auburn recovering the ball. It was short of the goal line, in bounds, so the clock keeps ticking. Refs only stop the clock when they don't know who recovered, which was NOT the case here.

The mechanics back then didn't stipulate a "hurry up" situation and dictated the officials keep the same pace all game. Fumble, Auburn has it, no call for piling on = don't stop the clock

That was my junior year at Auburn. I was in the Auburn U. band. That play happened right in front of us. From where I sat, I saw the UGA players kick the ball away so as to get the clock to run out. Definately we were robbed...I saw it with my own eyes.
There was no controversy there. Stan White fumbled the ball, Auburn recovered but they were short of the goal line. The Tigers had no timeouts and the clock ran out. Georgia won, Auburn lost.
There's a little thing called "delay of game on the defense," smart guy. If the defense won't get off the pile, they're running the clock even though they don't have the ball. That's illegal.

It's not a scorekeeper...he's the time keeper and he is an SEC official who is appointed by the league to do a specific game during a specific week. One week he may be in Gainesville, the next week he might be in Fayetteville. Secondly, he is not allowed to stop the clock on his own- he must rely on the officials ON THE FIELD to wave their hands to stop the clock. Grow up. Please we have killed Georgia several times since this game including the year they won the SEC championship in 2005. It's funny Auburn has beaten the last 2 SEC Champions and last year's National Champion.

Hell technically we shoulda got the ball back after yalls long pass in 05 that led to your win cause after it got knocked loose your player that recovered it was partly out of bounds. It happens...

That was my junior year at Auburn. I was in the Auburn U. band. That play happened right in front of us. From where I sat, I saw the UGA players kick the ball away so as to get the clock to run out. Definately we were robbed...I saw it with my own eyes.

There was no controversy there. Stan White fumbled the ball, Auburn recovered but they were short of the goal line. The Tigers had no timeouts and the clock ran out. Georgia won, Auburn lost.

There's a little thing called "delay of game on the defense," smart guy. If the defense won't get off the pile, they're running the clock even though they don't have the ball. That's illegal.

It's not a scorekeeper...he's the time keeper and he is an SEC official who is appointed by the league to do a specific game during a specific week. One week he may be in Gainesville, the next week he might be in Fayetteville. Secondly, he is not allowed to stop the clock on his own- he must rely on the officials ON THE FIELD to wave their hands to stop the clock. Maybe you should do some research before you go around calling people stupid, leghumper.
