@idkai Not all deaf people want them. I would understand if you did if you're not in a deaf community, but for Deaf people that are involved in their community, they like it better. Beisdes, the cochlear implant needs to be placed at a young age for it to really change the life of the Deaf person. Besides being deaf isn't something to be ashamed about, or want to change. But everyone makes different choices, but really in this case, it was the parents choice and they made a good choice. :D

@ReturnToAus I do understand what you're saying, and I would understand a hearing persons thoughts but, to a Deaf person who grew up in the Deaf community, where EVERYONE knows sign, you fit in, but if you research the cochlear implant, you'll find out that they only help with speech if you had them put in before you were five! You don't have to be insane to not want a cochlear implant. I don't think anyone in their right mind, in a Deaf community wants one. It's just a cultural difference.

That is actually some of the better speech I've heard from the other deaf and HOH people I've met and spoke with. I may not know very much sign language but I can definitely read body language and facial expressions. I shouldn't be that hard to speak with some without knowing the same language as the other.
