Ice cold hey? If someone woke you up, threw you outside and demanded you run a marathon... wouldn't YOU need to warm up? It's not the car's fault man, it likely didn't get a tuneup, and it was a stone-cold winter day.
I always let it warm up before I drove it hard, but other than this time, it always started right up, even in the cold. Well, other than when the battery died completely. You're right about the tune up though. It was going on 25 thousand miles since I got it in this video, I had only done one oil change on it, and that was before a thousand mile drive just after I got it. I guess I learned my lesson by having to trade it for the Protege. Next good car I get, I'm going to be neurotic about them.
If you still have the original battery, yes. After I got a new battery I never had a problem, not even when it was colder than in the video. The trans fluid was low, it would do that occasionally even in the middle of summer. My Neon NEVER left me stranded other than it not starting because of the battery. I put that car through more than most rental cars. It kept going through all of it. If you want to hear some of the stories, send a PM because I could fill 10 of these with just the highlights
Good point... I guess I said that because it was close enough that it could be confused with below zero... or something. Anyway its always good to know that some people actually read the description.
silicone spray on the door gaskets, the trans fluid is dead cold, ergo no flow/poor flow hence no reverse, let it warm up for a few minutes and it will be ok.
the battery sounds like a good idea. low charge = not enough fuel. you have an electric fuel pump run off the battery. when you first start your car, that is when your battery is at its lowest point, because the alternator has not had a chance to charge itto full cap. and dude its really bad to run your car cold. let it warm up a lil. it only takes a few extra mins.
Yea, I know it's the battery because it won't even crank now that it's a year later. It would've stalled again if I didn't rev it like that, I don't usually rev it above around 2200 when it's that cold. This car'll idle for an hour before it gets 1/4 the way up the temp gauge, that's why I didn't wait.
Dodge Neons are horrible cars. They have cheap parts, are poorly made, and in general are un-reliable vehicles. i know this because i have a 95 neon sport and it sucks.
It's because you have a 95. The first year of any car will have problems. Plus, it's old, and for the most part, older cars have more problems. As for the cheap parts, It's an economy car the only way to sell a car as cheap as the Neon was to skimp on quality. The 2000+ cars are better in terms of reliability, but you still get some cheaping out. If you want something that'll last for decades, get an old Toyota, if you want something on the sporty side with some character, Get a Neon.
I got it at a small dealer in Mass... It is a repaired wreck. and I've taken it for 3 or 4 2500 mile trips back to back - without oil changes. I've also jumped it a few times and taken it up some 4x4 / quad trails... All the other 2Gn's I've seen are quite reliable.
yea neons are reliable ive had mine for a year now i race it its got 137 000 never had one trip to the shop all it needs is a valve cover gasket :( that thats normal stuff i also took it to some trails lol never jumped it but i did do some thru the woods drifting but did you try getting a colder cranking battery that seems to do the trick for most cars with this problem look into it 8 out of 10 times problem solved
Never heard of watering it down, but theres a few places around here where you don't pay for premium. Because you get regular no matter what you pay for...
are you gordon ramsey?

@kelvinella Yeah, I just cut and dyed my hair, quit TV and bought a Neon. It was pretty hard losing the accent though.

Amen. I have a 99 Neon and I have to admit the head gasket is starting to leak but other then that it has been a great car and fun to drive.
jaimehatespapi 3 years ago
The 95 neon was only 6800 dollars when it first came out. HAHAHAHAHA
danie123182 2 years ago
And your point is? It's an economy car... If Ma Mopar tried to offer the Neon any higher than that, they probably wouldn't have sold a single one.
p3rsonalch33s3it 2 years ago
I don't have any problem with it. I have a 96 neon and an 04 neon. Love them both.
danie123182 2 years ago
Your Neon is pissed off. Where did you get this car? 2nd gen Neons are supposed to be very reliable.

I thought it was the battery connection, it was loose. But when it freezes again, I'll see how it starts.

Did you have bad gas? My sisters 98 does this when she gets gas from Wal-Mart.
chryslerminivans1111 3 years ago
That's possible. Although I've been going to the same place for gas since and she's never done it again.
p3rsonalch33s3it 3 years ago
They could have had a bad batch of gas. I know some places add water to their gas around here...

Yeah that too. A lot of places also put more ethanol than they are supposed to in the gas also.
