The greatest leader Australia ever had. Best candidate for 1st President of the Australian Republic. In hindsight, had Keating had his way and raised mandatory superannuation contribution to 15%, most savings would've evaporated during the 2008 GFC. Superannuation as it stand does not work.
Surely he is Australia's greatest and most courageous political visionary. A self made Prime minister who invoked fear in all political opponents, not just because of his razor sharp wit and tongue, but because of his vision, intelligence, values and the courage of his convictions.
His election loss to John Howard was an indictment on the stupidity and ignorance of the Australian people who were afraid of opening up to Asia and the rest of the world.
I can't help but think what this country could have been if Keating had stayed and Howard had failed. What a lost opportunity for us all. A once in a lifetime great leader.
Keating was absolute brilliance in Government, and yet Australians were blinded enough to elect that turkey Howard in his place. A great shame. A national mistake we are only perhaps just beginning to recover from - and perhaps we are still yet to begin that national recovery, time will tell I guess.
@SwdenJam Cos he actually had a vision for Australia and gave a stuff enough to actually get things done. To demand that a political visionary like Keating be humble is to foolishly discredit him for being a real leader, that he was.

you could speculate until the crows fly west for the winter but speculation is like religious faith.

@moo2thetube I would dare speculate that if it weren't for him you'd probably still be poor.
