first u have 2 unlock a super sayian. Then pick the character on super saiyan mode and hold L.

when u unlock it select it wen you choose ur character and then press circle/down if you unlock it in battle it will say something like gohan has reached a new transformation stage but Ghostkid135's explanation is a lot simpler and it works

honestly, i dont think any hand held dbz game will hold up, after playing tenkaichi 2, which almost perfected the fighting game genre, the hand held ones seem too slow to keep up.
