Massive cruise ships like this are built to with stand storms much much worse than this. They have stabalisers and all heavy machinery is stored right down in the bottom of the ship to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible. Its completly safe a shouldnt deter people from crusing.

The Voyager of the Seas was sailing out of Barcelona and will sail out of Venice next season. This class of ship is much more stable then the Radiance class. I just signed-off the Voyager after 2 contracts on the Radiance class.

It depends on the design. This Ship it might be 30- 35 degrees maybe even 40 degrees. But thats not the biggest problem. The captain can steer the ship in a way that will counteract the roll to stop it going over. Bit like a car that you steer to stop a slide. The big danger is a BIG wave hitting the side of the hull just at the wrong time. If that happens your kinda screwed.

@101HeyNow Oh yes it will roll over. There have been many ships that have capsized even with stabilisers. Stabilisers can only compensate up to a point usually sea state SF9 or so. Once you go beyond this point its not a good idea. For example if a ship is hit by a large wave on the port or starboard side and it rolls over it should be ok. The problem come if another wave comes and hits it before it comes back on to the level. Thats what capsizes a ship even with stabilisers.

I got married on that ship less then a year prior to this, nice ship. I was on another cruise ship back in 2004 as we left from Aruba that was caught in the middle of a hurricane on a day at sea & the stabilizers failed, Wasn't as bad as this but it was still pretty bad, people where getting sea sick all over the place so I stayed in my cabin though the smell still was all over.

I don t know about cruise lines that operate outside of the USA but, but I have been on several cruises from the states. They are the safest and I have no misgivings about any of them. They will always put their guest and crew above money. I have had trips cancelled because of impending hurricanes. On Carnival you have to attend a mandatory life vest and life boat drill before sailing. Ther is no safer place to be than on a cruise ship. Of course you can t stand on the railings

i was on the explorer of the seas (the voyagers sister ship) in waves that came up about 3/4 of the way to the outer, lower deck. they closed the decks down because the splashs came over the rail and they were big!
