  • Ahhh, at the very end there's proof he'll never fly that thing. Did you hear his nagging wife? I want to see a video where he tells his wife to shut the hell up and then take off. Then I want to see the engine stall when he's a few hundred feet up.

  • Hope he's got pedals for backup because that engine sounds like shit. It rattles like hell did you remember to put oil in it?

  • That ultalight is awesome. Has he flown it yet? Its engineers like this guy that keep the world moving.

  • @MrCctvtech What the hell are you talking about?

  • @sonsofmosiah I was talking about a guy who built a plane. What the hell are you talking about? If you weren't aware its engineers that build stuff. That same stuff helps the world move in a forward, scientific, sometimes positive and logical direction. You probably never built anything out of necessity or fun so I wouldn't expect you to understand.

  • @MrCctvtech I've built plenty of stuff and I'm not even an engineer! Imagine that. I know a lot of people who have built things that aren't engineers. I think you give engineers too much credit. Most of the engineers I know are conceited assholes and we don't need them.

  • @sonsofmosiah I won't argue the fact that most engineers are conceited. But, you say you've built plenty of stuff. That makes you an engineer. Maybe not in the true sense of going to school for an engineering degree. The point I was trying to make was that I like people who build. I was just trying to leave a positive message for the person that built that plane.

  • now this.... out of duct tape :D

  • yea well! very basic which is good but the engine sounds like a bag of nuts and bolts.

  • At least his wife knows where to draw the line.

  • @MonacoBlast To hell with his naggy wife! He should divorce her and take the plane up.

  • well, u've heard the story of sir Isac Newton and the apple? he would be the apple ....

  • so what happens if the engine cuts off in flight?

  • @xxdarkheartsxx well,u experience gravity

  • @eudaemonian Im talking about what would he do in that situation.

  • engine sounds like crap and the whole thing shakes when it is running, that guy is crazy..

  • i can't tell if it is homemade or not if it is nice fucking job

  • @Benivator2 Really? You couldn't tell if it was homemade or not? Have you seen an airplane before?

  • flying in the winter time without a canopy, no thanks lol

  • Needs a twin wasp hahaha

    Incredible craftsmanship

  • snowmobile engine?

  • pull start plane?..... no thanks!

  • There needs to be an Ultralight, Expermmental, and Deathtrap categories. I would put this one in a special Wooden Coffin SubCategory. When will people stop trying to fly the kitchen cabinet....

  • @cobrachoppergirl Lol! Exactly! Aw screw it. Let 'em fly. We all need something to laugh at.

  • looks good but it needs more power and a faster engine

  • that engine i DEED!! Make repairs on pistons and injection

  • That engine looks unreliable as hell. Oh wait, it already quit mid-flight. Seriously, I would consider using a different one. My lawnmower runs better than that.

  • 3:54 ARE YOU ABOUSLTELY CRAZY?!

  • Where does he take a shit?

  • @1948bola In his pants when the engine cuts out!

  • This man is my hero

  • @stevierobb09 You should get out more.

  • that will never fly it is to small and a man is to hevy

  • >>shiver<< I don't think I'd ever trust my life flying something that has to be pull-started.

  • Awesome job on the build, and I commend your pioneer spirit! I want my dad to see your vid, but he might try to build one himself! He's 74, and I wouldn't put it past him! Can't wait to see your follow up flight video. What motor is that?

  • @daisy8luke Pioneer spirit? Sorry to break it to you but... ...ever hear of the Wright Brothers?

  • does it fly

  • @olegbuilder Well never know! His Bitch wife wont let him try!

  • Good job so far! please post when you try take-off. Good Luck to ya.

  • @heavym3tal BTW is that a 2-cycle engine you are using? If so what is the power rating?

  • @heavym3tal I think it's a one cycle. Did you hear the way that thing rattled?

  • @sonsofmosiah A 1-cycle engine???

  • maybe u should buy a proper engine

  • y dint u fly it

  • The negative comments bug me - the MiniMax mightn't be a streamlined beauty, but hundreds have been flown in many countries around the world - its not a dodgy design. Find out the facts before commenting. Wood is a perfectly fine material that has been used in aircraft for over 100years.

BTW, I have designed and built my own aircraft in New Zealand - big credit to anyone completing a homebuilt aircraft!

  • @K1W1fly Try not to let it bug you. Most of the comments here are obviously by ignorant teenagers who haven't got a clue about ultralight aviation. Remember, he who knows not and knows not that he knows not is a fool, shun him.

  • @bibbler227 Yes, but how much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck would chuck wood?

  • @K1W1fly Yeah you negative jerks! Quit making negative comments! I made a plane out of rubberbands, denim and ductape and it flew great!

  • what is that 2 stroke is it like a snowmobile engine or something

  • Cool build but as a pilot you could not get me in that thing!!!

  • but did it fly later or successful???

  • I want to see it fly, please upload new video

  • with that motor it will be funny to fly.

  • if it can fly i think so it's very dangerous.

  • hmmmh .. but where is it flying then ? ;o)))

  • wow what a waste of time. i wanted to see his hand get chopped off as he reached close to the blades, or at least gtfo the ground...

  • dose it fly pls tell because i am going to a jet bike

  • Looks great

  • yeah...definitely looks like a giant RC plane. I am sure he flies RC all his life...maybe planned to die in one.

  • I think I saw some stotch tape on that thing

  • @RobnCheez That's what he used to hold the engine in place.

  • never seen a pull start airplane...

  • it looks just like a giant RC airplane tell me are the servos installed

  • I don't own a plane and I'm not an aeronautical engineer but I would have made the landing gear a little longer, higher off the ground to give the prop some clearence. But reading the last comment, sounds like engine reliability might have been the biggest issue. I might vote for the coffin comment as well. Hope nobody bought the farm in it.

  • im sure it will fly pry just had to get it certified . look badd ass to me . very dangerous though .. ..

  • What materials did you use for the wings and flaps/ailerons?

I'm assuming you used plywood for the skeleton, and sheet metal to make the wing?

  • My sleds rotax 670 runs mint.

  • Worthless vid if it doesn't get off the ground.

  • what kind of engine do you use?

  • 3:50 - "It smells bad"

    !

  • i wouldnt fly that over 2 feet

  • @PLISKEN12 You COULDN'T fly that over 2 feet!

  • two words "eletric starter"

  • flying coffin

  • title should read Plane I built but didnt fly

  • next posting...the accident report

  • Sooo it doesn't Fly??? WTF!!!

  • that engine sounds like the spark plug timing is a bit too early

  • Crap vid fat bastard!! bigger engine. Get it in the air idiot or else u cant call it a plane sucker! four good years waste of time!

  • This is a MiniMax 1100R Experimental Airplane boys and girls! Lots of fun to fly.

  • @cgonnion WHEEEEEEEEE!!! CRASHHH!!!!

  • looks like a small snowmobile engine. which would make sense, high revs, and air cooled it looks like.

  • Soulds like a scooter motor.

  • made of WOOD? and is that a lawn wower engine

  • that engine is a bit lumpy,I've got a .60 rc engie that sounds in better shape ,was the fuselarge made from orange boxes ,and where is the C of G on that thing ,if you commit that to the sky god help you and GOOD LUCK>

  • looks like a rc plane

  • that engine sounds a bit dodgy

  • and all together how much did it cost?

  • @calebsauls Just the cost of putting gas in it. He found all the parts in a junk yard.

  • what's the wood reinforced with??

  • its a balsa beauty.

  • Search "Cricri Mc15 * F-PYPM

" to see the smallest plane ever--French.

  • put a couple of machine guns on it and you got urself a fightr! nice job btw.

    5/5

  • Maybe it stopped just because it was a cold day and the oil didn't heat up??

    :)

  • its a 2 stroke, gas and oil are mixed

  • This sure simplifies the ordeal thyen--no need to wait for the oil gauge to hit the green.

  • Wow I can't believe you flew this thing. That engine looks like you took it from a lawn mover. XD

Anyways I wish you all the luck . Don't forget to post a video of you flying.

  • WOW ur in the EAA im in it too

  • Brilliant!! Reminds me of a Fokker Eindecker! Well done!

  • almost looks like a snowmobile engine

  • I that a Hummer CA-2, by any chance???

  • this wouldnt have been the mini max that dead sticked into a bean feild would it? read that in the goshen news and the airplane in the picture looked exactly like yours. just hoping all is well

  • yes, that was the plane! the engine quit midflight.

  • haha i thought that was it!! i live in the area and had saw the incident in the paper. i saw the picture of it too and it didnt look like too much damage done to it. anything happen to the landing gear? i some what interned with john (owner of jdt mini-max) for awhile last year just as an after school thing. really neat planes though!

  • @raptize Is she back in the air yet??

  • what size motor?

  • looks like an old 2 cylinder bike engine

  • interesting windshield aerodynamic design : )

  • what kind of motor did you use

  • just an update for everyone- the plane has officially flown now! I believe the initial flight was around 35 mins or so. Very exciting! I'll be posting a flight video as soon as i can get one...

  • @raptize would be nice to see the flying video :)

  • wow he spent 4 years building a plane that you can drive in circles..hmmmm isnt that just a stupid looking car

  • patience, my friend, patience! I haven't yet been able to do a follow-up flight video

  • It's alright for you, you've seen it lol.

  • does it fly ???

  • looks kind of like a mIni-max

  • don't like your hand being up near the prop!!!

  • Hand only? the body near propeller , one error and do a massacre!!! :)

  • hey its like a dream come true, ive some faq's

what material is used, what was the engine type and was the engine also homebuilt?plzzzz do reply me thanx!

  • I'd love to build my own aircraft, but they're not as easy going over here in the UK about flying your own design and what not.

  • yes thas the idea congratulations

  • you have to have alot of balls to fly the thing specially if is the frist fly.

  • this isn't me with the plane, it's my uncle mark. the weather is nice again, so i'll do a follow-up video as soon as he's put in a few flights and invites family out to watch again. can't wait!...

  • Looks like a rotax engine to me.

I wish he had used a VW engine or a motorbike engine, thats more fun than a plane out of a box.

This is way too expensive but, its still ok.

I can see the reduction drive precoupled to the engine.

This is hardly experimental, you took no chances.

    5 stars though.

  • hello friend:) In the US our gov't counts anything that didn't go through certification testing as experimental. I think it's just them trying to cover their butts in case anything goes wrong.

  • good luck witch takeoff

  • thatssuck if u dont fly it. good job though

  • thats its a minimax

  • haha that airfilter was about to fling off! that engine bounces about like a son of a gun dosn't it?

  • Nice 1 well done !

  • Minimax. but what the heck is that engine?

  • Not to be exact, But it looks like a 2 cylinder Rotax engine.

  • Cool! What engine did you use that was powerful enough to power the aircraft?

  • hey great job i was wondering how much horsepower is the engine?

  • Great job, wish you actually flown it.

  • it still needs to be FAA inspected before it is approved to fly, not to mention it's far too cold right now to enjoy it! (11 degrees here at the moment)

  • FAA inspected?, if i make my own plane, i just take it to fly, right now!

    sorry, but my english sux.

  • Nice fly!!!

  • Haha, that was GREAT!!

I'm so glad you filmed it since I couldn't be there.

    NICE job filming, too!!!
